Ludwig Holz Family. Wisconsin & Minnesota

Abt 1880 Ludwig Holz/Holtz came to Wisconsin with his wife Henriette nee Maass Holz, and his two youngest daughters, Alwine/Alvina, abt 19 yrs and Emma who was only 9. They lived their son Friedrich Herman Holz and his wife Alwine/Alvina nee Plumbeck or Plambeck in Watertown, WI and then near Merrill, WI. until about 1909. Fred and Alwine moved to Fort Ripley, MN just south of Brainerd, MN. after his parent's deaths. Ludwig had other children that came to the US from Prussia. They were August, Amalie, Bertha, Carl and Wilhelmine aka Minnie. Alvina was married to a Borchard and then to Carl A. Solveson.
Amalie married August F. Schulz, Bertha married Anton Bonak and I believe a Wittke and Minnie was married to a Carl Graap. Most stayed in WI, but for Amalia and August Schulz who also moved to Fort Ripley. Emma married a gent by the name of S.W. Leslie.
If anyone has any information on any of my relatives, would greatly appreciate any information you have and would be glad to share what I have found so far. Thanks
Holtz family from Mecklenburg, Germany

I recently received family history info from a now-deceased aunt regarding our Holtz ancestors. I am trying to trace them back to Germany but am having difficulty. I am enclosing the following info as it is recorded in her packet but she often does not list the source of her information. Could someone please steer me in the right direction? Thank you.

Lewis Holtz dob 07-03-1836 in Mecklenburg, Germany (probably city of Schwerin)

Immigrated to Ohio Valley region, was Union soldier and lived/died in Wood Co., WV.

Father: Frederick (sp?) Holtz dob 03-15-1795 Germany
Mother: Frederica Kreuger dob ?-?-1800 Germany
Holtz/Kreuger married ?-?-1834 Germany

Lewis' brothers/sisters:
John Holtz dob 08-04-1838 Germany
Sophia (Holtz) Kornhoff dob 09-08-1840 Germany
Christinia (Holtz) Mooseman dob 09-10-1842 Germany

A typed copy of Lewis' obituary states he immigrated to the US in 1857 at 21yoa. There is no record included of ship/port but my sister has said that Lewis and his father came through Philadelphia. It is unknown if any other family members accompanied them at the time.
Mary Ann Holtz - Akron, Ohio - late 1850s - early 1860s

I'm looking for the parents and family of my g-g grandmother, Mary Ann Holtz.

Mary Ann Holtz married my g-g grandfather, George Fritz, on 26 November 1859 in Akron, Summit County, Ohio -- where they can be found with an "unnamed" 2 month old baby (George Fritz Jr.) in the 1860 census. She gave birth to a total of 18 children of whom 11 survived.

According to handwritten papers that have been handed down, Mary Ann Holtz was born in Germany on the island of "Pholl" in the North Sea area. From modern maps, my best guess is that "Pholl" is the German Island of Poel in the Baltic Sea area of Germany. [If anyone is good with Germany geography and recognizes "Island of Pholl", please contact me.]

From her obituary, she was born 28 Dec 1837 and from the 1900 and 1900 census records, she immigrated to the United States in 1856.

She died 2 March 1911 in Clarksfield, Huron County, Ohio.

George Fritz was an immigrant from Alsace Lorraine. According to his obituary, he immigrated in 1854 -- which matches the year on the 1900 census. He was born 11 Dec 1833 and died in Clarksfield Ohio in 1916.

If any of this "rings any bells", please contact me.

Regards,

...
Searching for Holtz ancestors in Kansas

Renewing my search for the family and ancestors of Lewis Franklin Holtz, born in 1868 in Ottawa (Franklin) Kansas. As a young man, his family moved to Neosho Falls (Woodson) Kansas, where they farmed. His brothers were James, Frank, and John, and he may have had more siblings. I believe his parents were John and Margaret. According to the census, his mother, Margaret, would have been born about 1845. Please feel free to e-mail me directly if you have any information or questions. jorgenlm@aol.com

Need help from some the Holtz Clan

I am trying to locate anyone related to a George Holtz who married Estella Williams. Estella was born in 1890 in Nebraska. She moved to Yankton, South Dakota with her parents where she met a George Holtz. 1900 Census shows Estella Williams living with her parents in Yankton. Sometime between 1900 and 1920, Estella Williams married a George Holtz in Yankton, SD. Estella is listed in the 1920 Census of Yankton, SD, as being widowed, and her last name is Holtz. She is shown to have 4 children. Lester Holtz-b-1910, which owuld suggest that George Holtz and Stella Williams were married somewhere around 1908-1910. 2nd child was, Gladys Holtz-b-1911, George Holtz-b-1913, Donald Holtz-b-1915. So, George Holtz died somewhere bewteen 1915 and 1920 in Yankton, SD. Anyone with info on this Holtz family please contact me by replying to this message. Also, Stella later married a Mr. Tuesink in Yankton, South dakota.

Thank you, M.Williams

Divorce of Otho Holtz & Ann Davis Holtz - IA, OH, or MO? 1870-1880?

I am looking for a records of a divorce between:
Dr. Otho William Holtz
and Ann Davis Holtz. (our 2x great grandparents)

They married March 13, 1860 in Belmont Co., OH.
They had a child in Jasper Co., Iowa as late as 1872, but by 1880, Ann is in Belmont Co., OH with the children, listed as "widow". Dr. Otho Holtz, however, is alive & well, marrying Tabitha Vincent about 1891 in Wayne County, MO, where he lives out his days, having another family with Tabitha. I suspect Ann says she is a widow to avoid stigma of divorce, since Otho is far away. She is living next to Otho's parents, so it couldn't have been much of a secret though, and must have been somewhat friendly.

Otho & Ann may have been divorced in IA, OH, or MO.

I am hoping a kind soul will look for a divorce record in the county records and help me find out what happened, and when.

I have census & family records on both halves, etc., but I don't have anything on the divorce.

Many Thanks!

Joseph is listed in 1900 Census in Wood Co., then disappears. I checked the census records for Red Cloud in 1910 and there is a Joseph Holtz, age 78, listed as living with Amelia Schaefer and Annie Schaefer. I'm interested in any information pertaining to Joseph's family as it appears he is related to my Holtz line.

Lillian Holtz in NYC

My mother's maiden name was Lillian Holtz. She was born on Feb. 13, 1908 and surrendered to the NY Foundling Hospital because of destitution on Feb. 25, 1908. Mom was transferred at age 6 to St. Agatha Home, Nanuet, NY. She remained an orphan there until age 16 in 1924.

While browsing for my mother on the 1910 US census, I came across another Lillian Holtz in the same ward 19 as the Foundling Hospital. This one is listed under the Belmont Hotel which no longer exists as 25, single, English/Irish, immigrated in 1898, a maid. I could not find this Lillian Holtz on the 1900 US census because when she immigrated in 1898 she might have been listed under a maiden name, not Holtz. She would have been about 14 at the time of immigration. I couldn't find her on the 1920 US census either because I believe she had married and would have been listed under a new name, again not Holtz. I have reason to believe this is my grandmother. If anyone in NY has information concerning this Lillian Holtz and would be willing to share it, I would appreciate it. My mother's background is a big mystery to our family.

Holtz's in Southeastern Ohio

I am looking for information on Holtz ancestors that originated somewhere in Germany. My great grandmother, Mary Theresa Holtz was born in 1860 in New Castle, Ohio. Mary Theresa married John McGowan in 1879. Her father, Michael Holtz immigrated from Germany in the 1850's. Michael Holtz married Theresa Weaver and had had four other children; John, Joseph M., Rose, and Christian Holtz. Most of the Holtz men worked as coal miners in Southeastern Ohio. Some of my Holtz's moved to Amersterdam and Wellston, Ohio. I was told that the Holtz's were very good friends (but not related) with the Holtzapple's, who may have immigrated from the same area in Germany. Some of my other German relatives, the Lutz's came from Baden, Germany. If any of this sounds familiar and you would like to trade information, let me know. Other Holtz relations include:

Christine Ann Holtz (1926 - 1983)
Dorothy Mae Holtz (1922 - 1958)
Elizabeth Holtz (1885 - 1928)
Eugene Edward Holtz (b. after 1918)
Franklin Robert Holtz (1934 - 1985)
Helen Elizabeth Holtz (1913 - 1970)
John Joseph Holtz (1890 - 1975)
Marguerite Frances Holtz (1919 - 1959)
Mary Agnes Holtz (1897 - 1990)
Mary Katherine Holtz
Hi Phillis, one half of the book is about how the holtz came around and tell about way back when... Any way the other half is a bunch of adresses. It dosen't tell about the person. I guess whoever wrote this book asumed that if we were trying to get a hold of someone we would write them a letter or something. If only you could see it you would understand it better.
Oh ya, thereis also a part in the book were it shows you how to find someone. The book is sort of like a guide too. Well I have to get back to class and study for finals comming up next week. Bye. Amy

He was an employee of the Daimler Motor Company at Berlin-Marienfelde, and took the first automobile to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to be presented to Emperor Menelik, in 1905/06. Arnold had three children, Karl or Carl, Ludwig Fredriech b-2 Dec 1911, and Ursula. Ludwig, my father, was born in Addis Ababa during the duriation of the familys trip there.
Some info on the trip is posted @ http://allafrica.com/stories/200411220328.html

Parents and family of Theodore Holtz

I am seeking info on history of my maternal g-grandfather, Theodore (1847- 1926) who was born in Germany, and came to "America" presumably with his parents approx 1850. Lived in US, possibly Michigan, married Mary Jane Grogan, had 4 children, before settling on a farm in Bruce Township, Ontario. Total of eleven children, one of whom was "Fred" currently listed in the research directory (originator's name not shown). My mother, Mary Evelyn (Holtz) Sieffert still lives in Port Elgin, and has information about her Uncle Fred and other family members, but knows nothing about her grandfather's origins. Would appreciate if that person or anyone else with info relevant to my search contact me.

I am just starting to trace my grandmother's family in New York. Her sister,Margaret Boehm married a Holtz.
She would have been born about 1877 in Brooklyn. I have some old pictures of their home.
My father (1910-1974) never mentioned that he had an aunt and so I can only assume they lived all their lives in Brooklyn.
I'm wondering if I have any relatives.
