I am related to Andrew HOLTZMAN who I believe is referenced earlier in this thread. Andrew is named as the father of Mary "Polly" HOLTZMAN on her marriage bond in Shenandoah County, VA in 1818. Polly was b. abt. 1798, so I'm estimating Andrew's DOB to be abt. 1778. Census records indicate Polly was born in Maryland.

Does anyone have any more information on this HOLTZMAN family such as more specific dates or additional family members?

I am looking for information on William H. Holtzman born around 1847 in Virginia. He may have served in the Civil War. A William Holtzman enlisted in 1863 in Dover, Pa in the 5th Virginia Calvary Company C as a private. At the time of his enlistment he listed that he resided in Baltimore, MD. My great great grandfather is William Holtzman but I'm not certain if he is the William Holtzman who enlisted in 1863. William H. Holtzman had a daughter Clara born in D.C. around 1870. She married Charles Lutz. Charles Lutz is my great grandfather and Clara is my grat grandmother. Any information on this Holtzman line would be appreciated.

Re: Peter Holtzman

Ref your 18 Mar 2002 inquiry to Joyce Holtzman Mulholland (my daughter in Cheshire CT)

A few weeks ago I contacted you after you had sent to me an inquiry. At the time of the contact I did not have a copy of your inquiry. Now I have come across your inquiry and find that I did not fully answer your request.

1. Peter Holtzman, 1st s/o George and Elizabeth Lebo, was born about 1795 although we have no documentation of birth or christening.
2. From Orphan Court documents we know that he died 1839 leaving 9 children, 7 of which required guardians. His wife Elizabeth Garman was awarded the three small children that she gave birth to, including Isaac (my ancestor, Leah and Mary.
3. Nothing is known of Mary's adult life. Leah
was buried next to Mother Elizabeth in Linglestown Church of God Cemetery on the main road. Isaac is buried in East Harrisburg Cemetery.
4. We are reasonably sure that Anna Maria Shuey did not marry the immigrant Heinrich Holtzman, but rather married the son, Henry Holtzman... Anna Maria Shey much too young to have married the immigrant and produced child Henry in 1751.
5. My youngest daughter Joyce Ann married Stephen Mulholland, born Mount Clair/Belleville NJ, grandson of immigrant from Ireland (1920's). Not directly related to any PA Mulhollands.
5. There is a small group of descendents of Peter Holtzman who are interested in Genealogy and have collected a more clear history of his circumstance that available at the time of the original posting of data to your great uncle. If in fact you are considering republishing an updated version of the the book, we would be pleased to correct any errors that we unintentionally provided.

Ted Holtzman
Cheshire CT

I purchased an old photo album that had some pictures in it. There is a picture of a boy or girl (wearing dress) mabye around 2 yrs old. Hand written on the back is the date 2 - 6 (or 16) - 86. It is marked on the back J. H. Wagoner, Artistic Photographer, Hagerstown, MD. There appears to be a middle name, but I can't make it out; Guy Fxxhix Holtzman. He married Elizabeth GARMAN and had 4 children, Isaac, who married Anna Maria HOCKER, Anna, Leah, and an unidentified daughter.

His parents were John George HOLTZMAN and Elizabeth LEBO. He was one of nine children, as follows: Peter, John, John Jacob, Jonathon, John Michael, Maria, Sallie, Elizabeth, and Catharine. John George's parents were Heinrich HOLTZMAN and Anna Maria SHUEY.

I am distantly related to Anna Maria HOCKER, Isaac HOLTZMAN's wife. The information I have was given to my great uncle for his book "A German-American HACKER-HOCKER Genealogy" by a descendant of John Enoch HOLTZMAN.
Re: Peter Holtzman

To Kris Hocker (and others who may be interested)

The descendents of Peter Holtzman of Dauphin County, he born about 1795, are very interested in any discovered documentation of his birth, marriages, and children's births.
As outlined in the book "A German-American Hacker-Hocker Genealogy, his youngest son appears to have been Isaac Holtzman, who married Anna Maria Hocker. The book includes the error that he was buried in Salem Lutheran and Reformed Cemetery in Berrysburg, Dauphin Co. In fact, his
burial place is unknown and may have been the Harrisburg Cemetery which was removed for the Pennsylvania Railroad
Station and yards. After his death, and the death of Peter's father (John George Hotzman) 1839?, the disposition of his nine children was determined by the Dauphin County Orphans Court. His (then current) wife, Elizabeth Garman was granted custody of her three children, including Isaac. Others were either old enough to be on their own (2) or were parcelled out to uncles and neighbors (4).

This update is submitted by the provider of the (mostly correct) information in the Hacker-Hocker book, a descendent of Isaac Holtzman of Harrisburg PA.

Additional information on this family that originated with the immigration in 1750 of Heinrich Holtzman to Berks County PA is available.
