I am trying to research my family tree. My great grandfather was William Homer born in 1870, died 21/12/1957. He lived in Birmingham and was a spring maker. My grandfather was Harold Homer born 23/11/1900, died 11/8/83. Harold lived mainly in Birmingham (Shirley) and was an engineer/fitter. He had a brother called William and sister called Beatrice(married name Freshwater)

I would be grateful if anybody who has any information relating to these people could send it to me.

Hi,
I am totally new to this website, but I
have been doing family history off and on
for about 5 years. I can trace 5 generations
back. I'm Thomas, my dad was Thomas, his dad
was Richard, his dad Thomas, and his dad was
Richard. My dad was born in Stalybridge,
England, and came to the US as a small child.
The oldest Thomas fought in WWI and was
captured by the Germans, then they let him
go and shot him in the knee as he escaped.
The oldest Richard died from head and lung
injuries after falling off a wall. Both
of these accounts were relayed to me by
a contact living in England who read about
them in newspaper records. He also told me
there are 'hundreds' of Homers on record
over there.
I am not sure how to best go about nailing
down more info from my line. Anyone who can
lead me to a book or a method of researching
England records, or if anyone has info they
could match to my line - it would be greatly
appreciated.

Does anyone have any info on this Homer?

He married Nancy Hadley, daughter of Richard and Lydia Hadley. They had at least 5 children:
Mary Homer (1825)
John Homer (1829)
Richard Homer (1833)
Mary Homer (1835)
Eliza Homer (1839)
John married Betsy Round(born 1829)
Richard married Jane Boardman (born 1835)
I believe Joseph's father was named Joseph as well, and HIS father may have been John.
This is all in Dudley.
John and Betsy had 7 kids:
Caroline, Edward, James, Thomas, Sarah, Rosanna, and Eli.
Richard and Jane had 4 kids:
Maria, Richard, Joseph, and Thomas
Anyone with knowledge of this clan, it would be great if we could share info.

I am looking for anyone who may have connections to the John HOMER family that emigrated to the U.S. about 1855. He and his family settled in Pottsville, Schuylkill, PA.

John HOMER was born about 1819 in Dorset Co., England. His father appears to have been John HOMER born in Corfe Castle, Dorset Co., England son of Benjamin HOMER.

John married first Jane BONFIELD in Swanage, Dorset Co. His second wife was Susannah CHINCHIN whom he married in Portsea, Hampshire. She emigrated with him and died soon after their arrival in U.S. He then married Mary YARNELL.

Most of the family moved to Utah in 1876. The older children stayed in PA.

The children I know of are:
John born 1842 in England
Solomon born 1844 in England
Harry born 1846 in England
Robert James born 1850 in England
Susannah born 1852 in England
Ephraim born 1857 in PA
Mary Jane born 1858 in PA married a VINCENT
James born 1859 in PA
Charles born 1861 in PA
William born 1863 in PA
John born 1866 in PA

it would appear that he also had a daughter named Elizabeth born in England as there is one in the 1860 census with the family. She is listed as a surviving sister of Ephraim when he died in 1926. She married Benjamin JONATHAN before 1870.

Would love to hear from anyone with info and connections to this family.

From the 1920 Census of Craig Co., Oklahoma, brothers Charley D, married to a Mary, and Albert R, who is single, and Thomas E live beside each other in Craig Co., Oklahoma. Sarah (?) Homer, the mother is living with Albert R. They must have came from Iowa sometime between 1910 and 1920 as I did not find them listed in the 1910 Census of Craig Co., Oklahoma.

Nathaniel & James Homer - Birmingham England

Can anyone help me track down Nathaniel's first marriage? He was born about 1790, to James, a button maker & ?, and married at least three times. He was a bookseller. I have the names of wives 2 & 3 but I am descended from his son James who must have been the issue of the first marriage but cannot establish who James' mother was. He was born in Birmingham & married an Elizabeth Allen.

On the IGI there is a marriage of a Frances Ashby to a Nathaniel Homer in Leicester in December 1808 but I cannot prove the link either way.

Any help appreciated!

Hello. I was wondering if anyone could tell me about the children of Capt. Jacob HOMER and Elizabeth LORING. I believe they are the parents of Betsey HOMER, who married Thomas HUTCHINSON in 1813 in Charlestown, MA.

I have information from a very old, very small WELLINGTON family book which mentions - strangely - the family of Col. Jeduthan WELLINGTON and Elizabeth LORING. And, they have their daughters marrying HOMER brothers:

Eleazer HOMER married Louisa WELLINGTON
William F. HOMER married Adeline WELLINGTON

I would like to find out if Eleazer and William were the brothers of Betsey (HOMER) HUTCHINSON, and thus the sons of Capt. Jacob HOMER (and Elizabeth LORING).

The WELLINGTON surname shows up in the middle name of one of the daughters of Thomas and Betsey (HOMER) HUTCHINSON.

(Please refer to my other posting about this family. I am trying to find out how a SPICER / MABIE marriage and a possible HUTCHINSON / LYNCH marriage are connected to the HUTCHINSON extended family in Winchester, MA.)

(My sister and I are the latest of several generations who have researched the HUTCHINSON's in Charlestown, Woburn, and Winchester, MA. But, some of the side families aren't that well described.)

I am interested in finding any relatives of Joseph Homer b. 1815 - Cradley Heath, Rowley Regis, Stafford, UK. He was a chain maker. He was 66 on the 1881 census, living in Rowley Regis with Sophia (2nd wife? Aged 39), Eliza (daughter, aged 37) and Frank Homer (grandson, aged 12). He is also the likely father of my gg grandmother Ketura Homer Lawson Garrett.

hallo,is anyone able to look up this person?he was born 1814 ish .In 1851 rowley regis census,he was "living at back of garratts lane" with wife phebe,aged 38 at census.they had william age 14 ,mary a aged 12,thomas aged 9,eliza age 7,ellen age 3 and sarah a age 11 months.have looked at later censuses (1881 and 1891)for any of these but theres either loads or none!!

John Frederick Homer was my greatgrandfather(he came to Canada in 1882),his birthdate (according to 1901 census) is 1853,in England....His parents names according to his death certificate(he died in 1943) were Charles Homer and Elizabeth Appleby.....Charles is listed as having been born in Staffordshire.Elizabeth as just England...........My Ggrandfather had a brother named Charles and a sister Elizabeth.............
The clues I have are.1. Charles was one of three brothers who were glass blowers,(he was said to have had his own business).2. Elizabeth Appleby was said to have come from a "well to do" family.......3.Elizabeth died when my GGrandfather was young.and Charles was said to have remarried...

My GGrandfather married a Mary Francis McGuire(born Aug,1860)......who according to her death notice was from enniskilin(sp) Ireland(Northern Ireland).
Her family was against this marriage, (as John was not a catholic) so they married in a Protestant church in England.
They had two children in England in 1878 and 1880 named Charles and Elizabeth....having 8/9 more in Canada......the last being born in 1902........

Looking for any information on the family of David and Elizabeth (Simmons) Homer. Both born in Ireland circa 1818. Lived in Massachusetts, New York, and Ohio prior to moving to Iowa. David was a railroader.

Children included Mary (born c. 1853 in Mass); Patrick (born c.1855 in NY); John (born c. 1856 in NY); David (born c. 1858 in Ohio); and Sara (born c. 1859 in Ohio).

The family is found on the 1860 Iowa Census in Tippacanoe Township of Henry County, Iowa. Also listed with them is 67 year old Mary Homer who presumably is David's mother. Her birthplace is also listed as Ireland.

I'm looking for information relating to any of the seemingly numerous Homer's of Dudley, Worcester, England around the mid 1700's and into the early 1800's.

My 6th great-grandparents were William Goodreds and Hannah Homer, who were married at St. Thomas in Dudley, Worcester, England on 15 Aug 1784. (William Goodreds' name is also cited as Goodred, Goodright, Goodwrite, Goodrad, et al.).

I am trying to locate the parents of this Hannah Homer, who would probably have been born near Dudley sometime prior to about 1768 or so.

I have located three strong possibilities for my Hannah Homer, but I'm seeking to either prove or disprove them as my direct ancestor and would appreciate anyone's help or insight who may have access to these records or have researched this line already:
1. The first possibility is a Hannah Homer who was Christened on 26 Jun 1768 at St. Thomas in Dudley, Worcester, England, daughter of a Benjamin Homer and wife Elizabeth.
2. The second possibility is a Hannah Homer who was both born and Christened on the same day of 28 Jan 1763 in Bilston, Stafford, England, daughter of a Benjamin Homer and wife Sarah Mason.
3. The third possibility is a Hannah Homer who was born on 30 Dec 1765 of Dudley, England, daughter of a Peter Homer and wife Martha Homer.

If it helps, one of the children of William Goodreds, Jr. and Hannah Homer, who is also my direct ancestor, was William Goodreds, Jr. who married Harriet Pearson on 20 Jul 1818 at All Saints in West Bromwich, Stafford, England -- about 5 mi/8km from Dudley.

I look forward to hearing from someone who may be able to assist me in filling in some gaps in this line and good luck to all in your research.

I'm looking for any information on John Homer, born in New York in 1856-1860 timeframe, moved to Iowa and settled in Downey/West Branch, Iowa area. Married Elizabeth Gamble in Cedar County, Iowa in 1882 and had six or seven children. Died in 1937. Any information or leads appreciated.

I'm particularly interested in finding his parents. Will gladly share the information that I have.
