HUME or HUMES in Ireland. My DNA shows I have irish roots and connects me with HUMES in USA from a Thomas Humes in Ireland around 1760. My HUME came from Durham in 1720. So must go further back, are you still researching, contact me on john.hume@ntlworld.com
thanks

Homes family of Davidson County Tennessee

Looking for parents of Elizabeth Homes who married in 1831 in Davidson County Tennessee to Anderson J. Dorris. The 1880 census indicates that her father was born in Ireland and her mother was born in Tennessee.

I believe her father to be William Homes of Davidson Co., TN and her mothers name may have been Hannah. William died while Elizabeth was a little girl. Her suspected mother died circa 1830 and left a will in Tennessee mentioning her two children William and unmarried daughter Elizabeth.

I can be reached at calvin_dorris@yahoo.com

I am especially interested in Alfred Holmes born c1868 the son of Richard Holmes. No information on Richard other than he had died by 1888 when Alfred Holmes (belle Vue Terrace, Hereford) married Mary Shea 30 June 1888.

Later Censuses give a place of birth for Alfred Holmes of Broadoak, Herefordshire.

Does anyone know where Broadoak is?

Hi

There seems to have been a rather large extended family of Homes in Herefordshire about this time.

my husband's grandmother was Eliza Homes born in Colwall in 1858, her father was Thomas Homes born 1832 in Bosbury,(married Maria Hill in 1858). His father was Thomas Homes born in Herefordshire c 1787, lived in Colwall and died in Welland.

Eliza's sister Mary Ellen Homes emigrated to Canada in 1908 and subsequently lived with her nephew Leonard King there.

I have just found a link to this John through my Susan Hartland. The 1871 UK census reveals that she was already a widow at 25 with children John 2yrs and Emma 1yr. It was a bit of luck for her that he appeared to be a comparatively wealthy farmer (which farm?) but what is the tragic story behind his early death at just 34 yrs? Did lonely Susan remarry ? How does this story end? Love to hear from you, regards Wendy Clare

Hi Alan,
Thanks for replying to my message. I don't think our dates are going to tie up though. My Grandad was Thomas Edward Homes born 1908 in Peckham and his Father, James Walter Homes was born in 1878 in Walworth. His Father was William Henry Homes born in 1843 in Walworth. Your dates seem to be in between mine. Would love to hear from you again if there is a connection.
Best wishes,
Kate

Just starting to research. My father Thomas George Homes was born in Walworth in 1899 the youngest of about six. I'm obtaining his birth certificate. His fathers name was George William Homes who I guess was born around 1865. Being in such close proximity and with a slightly unusual name I would expect there to be a relationship somewhere. If I get any further news I'll be in touch. - Alan.

Luther Homes married Hannett Bridge Currier, whose daughter Annie-born 1838-was my great-great-great grandmother, married to Washington Irving Hodgson in New Orleans 1855.
Luther's daughter Ella Jane married George James Long of Louisville Kentucky.

Luther's son Warren Homes married Isabella Chambers Douglas, who had three boys: Harry Homes; Herbert Bridges Homes and Josiah Morrow Homes.

My Grandfather was Harry Homes Hodgson.

Although there is lots of information available regarding Luther's wife's family, I have found no information on Luther at all.

It appears the both of Luther's children were very close to Annie and her new husband's family, because there is a common exchange of names throughout the generation.

There were two other Homes in New Orleans at the time that Luther's name surfaces: Salomon Homes, and Robert Homes. If they are his siblings, I's like this information also.

Much thanks!!!!

Thomas A. sometime in his life added the *L* to Homes to make it HOLMES.
Can't seem to find information that will get me into England. I do have a lot of Holmes information. Have also hear my line came from Scotland, Home/Hume; Ireland, O'Home; England, Homes (maybe Holmes also).
Hope to hear from you, Carolyn

John Homes was b. 1774 in Ireland. In 1801, he was in Harrison County. KY and married Drucilla Wiggins, daughter of Philip Wiggins, of a prominent family formerly in Virginia and resettled to Kentucky. I know a great deal about John's descendants and will be glad to share information. However, my cousin and I are trying to find out exactly how and when John arrived and whether he came with any family members. Any help would be appreciated.

Jennie Homes/Holmes

Looking for information on my great grandmother, Jennie Homes/Holmes Cross. In 1930 census she is listed as Jennie Cross, but in 1900 she was listed as either Mas....V or Mar....V. Can't make out the rest of the first name. I'm guessing the V was for Virginia. But the first name is stumping me. My dad says he only heard people call her Jennie, so that's not a help. I don't have any info on her only the census'. She was married to my great grandfather John Green Cross and they had quite a few kids. I haven't found where they married. Haven't found where she's buried either. They lived in Georgia. Any information would be great!!! Thank you.

Evelyn Larson
