My name is Diana Honeycutt Abernathy. My grandparents were Zack and Callie Honeycutt of Birmingham, Ala. My father died when I was only 2. I never knew anything about my Honeycutt relatives. I would love to learn as much as possible, now that the computer age has made it possible. I would really li8ke to have a pic of my Honeycutt relative that was killed in France. I am also researching my connection from the Revolutionary and Civil War eras, for my U.D.C. and D.A.R. My email is reikidi@bellsouth.net. My tel. No. is 770-974-6112. Only one relative has ever telephoned me, but I keep giving my contact information out. Someday....I hope to hear from another Honeycutt relative.

I Have searched very hard to get the Honeycutt children correct and have changed my opinions several times. A big problem comes in because there are at least two John Honeycutts in Union Parish, Louisiana and this was unexpected.

No, they do not - The only children of John Honeycutt/Mary Feazel is proven by Mary Honeycutt Succession Record and Hunt County District Ct. Cause #1898...Elizabeth (Wilhite), Austin, John, Alfred, Mary Jane (Bilberry)

John Honeycutt/Gada is a separate family entirely.

Uriah Honeycutt - Buncombe Co., NC - Claiborne Co., TN

There was a Uriah Honeycutt born (from census) between 1770-1780 who probably married Nancy Bradford 14 Aug 1798 in Orange County, NC. They were on the 1800 Guilford Co., NC census living next door to Joseph Bradford and James Bradford. This Uriah is too old to be the son of Moses "The Pioneer" from Buncombe/Yancey Co., NC.

Uriah served in the War of 1812 from Buncombe Co., NC, and is on the 1820 Buncombe Co., NC census. He and his wife (still Nancy?) had two probable sons listed and 3 probable daughters listed in that census. My working theory is that those sons were M. S. (Moses Sampson) and Austin. The daughters I have no names for at this time.

In 1830, Uriah and his wife (still Nancy?) have one son and one daughter still at home. I think the son is Austin.
M. S. (Moses Sampson) is listed separately, having married Susannah ? around 1825 or so. They have several small children by 1830 and are still in Buncombe Co., NC.

By 1840, Uriah has moved to Claiborne Co., TN, along with his sons Moses and Austin and a younger son (probably James Madison or Mattison). Uriah dies in 1843 and Austin is named administrator. The estate seems to amount to a couple of dollars and I can't find any other accounting for it.

I think Moses S. and Susannah have moved further west before 1843, Moses S. dies, and Susannah and four children are on the 1850 Wright County, Missouri census. The children are Nancy, Sampson, Austin, and Elizabeth. There may have been another daughter who either died or married before 1850.

1850 - Claiborne County, TN - Austin has married Rebecca Robinson and has a large family. James M. marries Nancy Woodward in early 1850. In 1860, Austin, Rebecca, their children, Rebecca's parents, Austin's brother James M., his wife Nancy, and their children are all sharing a home in what is now Union Co., Tennessee. They probably didn't move - Union County split off from Claiborne Co., TN.

If anyone researching Honeycutts (any spelling although this line seems to use "Honeycutt" pretty consistently) can poke holes in this theory, please do. I'm working back from the Missouri lines for Austin and Sampson, both of whom have been Y-DNA tested. They are a 67/67 marker match for a descendant of Joseph Hunnicutt/Mary Polly Love who moved from NC to Atlanta, GA. So far, that just adds to the confusion, but we're hopeful we can find a common ancestor.

Hi, I'm probably not going to be of much help because I never knew my real father nor his family, but maybe what info I do have will help you. My fathers name was Jim Honeycutt and from my understanding, they originated from NC, but some moved to Indiana (where I was born). My grandfather's name was Lonnie. I have an Aunt (Kay Honeycutt Champion) that lives in NC (Carolina Beach)now, and an Uncle (Arle Honeycutt) that lives in Ashville, NC (I think). I have met them briefly only one time. I would love to meet what family is left so my child can know his ancestors, but I haven't been financially or physically able to travel and do this.
If you have any information that you can share, I would appreciate it.
Good luck on your search, I hope to hear from you soon.

The Calvin Honeycutt I am researching was b. in AL IN 1832 to John and ???. My cousin thinks it's Vada but I'm not too sure. There's also a Rachel b. abt 1841 in La.
Hi Paul,
Thanks for the added info. I have some xerox sheets from the 1850 census of Union Parish
on pg 400 there are the following:
line 803: Calvin Honeycutt (my g-g-grandfather age 29 farmer b in AL
wife Vira (Visa?) age 23yrs b in Miss.; Alexander 8yrs b. LA; John 9yrs b. MS; Mathew (my g-grandfather) 2yrs b. La. value of real estate 100

line 804: Alvin Honeycutt age 22 farmer b. AL; wife Susan age 19 b. AL value of real estate 100

line 805: Albert Honeycutt age 26 or 24 farmer, b. AL; Elizabeth age 16, b. AL; Nancy age 6 b. AL value of real estate 200

line 806: John Honeycutt age 56 blacksmith b. NC; Gada (Sada?) age 50 or 56 b. NC; Israel age 16 b. AL. I also received a descendancy chart from an 82yr old relative from my mother's side (not a Honeycutt). He lives in Winnsboro, La and maintains the Pine Grove Cemetery there where my grandparents and many other relatives are buried. The chart does show John Honeycutt b. 1794 m. Sada b. 1800 and their children as Calvin b. 1821; Albert b. 1826; Alvin b. 1828 and Israel b. 1836. I found a Martha in the LDS.

I don't know where Roy Montgomery got this chart he mailed me but I'll be glad to contact him and ask. He is researching the Montgomery/Martins. My grandmother was a MARTIN, she married Mathew Honeycutt's son Chester. Her mother was married to both a Mongtomery then a Martin.

My e-mail address is jkcusimano@aol.com
Mathew HONEYCUTT, b. 1810 of Montgomery, Rowan, Cabarrus NC

I am looking for info about Mathew Honeycutt, b. abt 1810. He is possibly the son of Elisha Honeycutt and Sarah Morton. He married Lydia Phillips (last name from daughters' death certificates) and they were the parents of Mariah Francis b. 1842; Sallie b. 1844; and Lydia b. 1850. It is POSSIBLE (not proven yet) that they are also the parents of Jacob Levi b. 1837 married Catherine Peninger; and Joicy b. 1834 married Christopher Moose.

I found a member tree on ancestry by cwhoneycutt but am unable to contact him or her. Please contact me with any additional information about this family.

My husband is GG grandson of Christopher Moose and Catherine Honeycutt, married 1871 in Cabarrus, and I am trying to find Catherine's maiden name. I believe she may be the widow of Jacob Levi Honeycutt. Christopher Moose married Joicy Honeycutt (her name was from 2 of her children's death certificates) Christopher and Joicy lived with Mathew and Lydia Honeycutt in 1860 census; Mathew Honeycutt is listed as executor on Jacob Levi's probate record. C Honeycutt is living next to Christopher and Joicy in 1870 census.

Thanks for any help.

Janet, there is lots of erroneous info on LDS. The info is only as good as the research that put it on LDS. Hyram/Hiram Hannegan married Rachel either in Ala. or Miss., and is on census in 1840 Clarke Co. Miss., with their children born in Miss. Hiram married Rachel Honeycutt abt. 1839 in probaly Clarke Co. Miss. They had 14 children and 13 of them born before 1859. The first 5 were born in Clarke Co. Miss. The only other Honeycutt family in this area is the John Honeycutt family #134 on this census. This same John Honeycutt migrated to Union Parish La. along with his wife Gada and children Israel,Calvin,Alvin, and Albert. Iam looking for all of John and Gadas'children, as they had 2 daughters and at least one more son. They started in NC as my family of Hennigan, traveled thru Ala. as marriages indicate and children birthplaces, and ended up in Clarke Co. Miss. as neighbors in 1840. They also are doing business with same people of record in Miss., and both families end up in same time frame in La.Only hoping someone has records of John and Gadas children as i believe Rachel born abt 1821/22 in Ala.(per 1880 Madison Co. TX. Census)is one of their daughters. Thanks Janet and keep up the search.

John & Gada HONEYCUTT, NC>LA

I have been researching same Honeycutt family as Janice. I believe John Honeycutt family #806 is the father of Calvin, Alvin, and Albert on Union Parish Census of 1850. Calvin family #803, Alvin family #804, and Albert family #805. I also believe this family (John and Gada) are the parents of Rachel Honeycutt Hennigan that married Hiram Hennigan in Clarke Co. Miss in 1839. It appears to me that this is the same Honeycutt family as John Honeycutt on 1840 Clarke Co. Census page #134. This John Honeycutt appears also doing business along with my ggggrandfather Michael Hennigan with the estate of Thomas Fontaine in Clarke Co. Miss. on June 1st 1846 owing Fontaine money. Michael Hennigan owed 6 dollars and John Honeycutt 1.25 and both accounts show to be considered good. My Hennigan family followed the same trail of migration from NC, Ga., Ala., Miss., and into La. as the Honeycutt family. Looking for complete list of children of John and Gada Honeycutt to prove or disprove my search.

Juliann,

Since my last reply I looked up some data that might help you. This information comes from a family group Sheet done by a Mrs. Tynes who is now deceased. She got the information from marriage records at the Union Parish Courthouse and from W. B. Wells, Jr who at that time lived near Farmerville, La. and was the son of W.B. Wells. Supposedly, some of this information came from a family Bible he had possession of at that time. Some of this data I have been able to confirm through census, marriage and succession records from the Union Parish, La courthouse.

The group sheet has the following:

Children of Abner Fletcher Wells b: 1804 d: 1868 and Fannie Horton b: 1814 d: unknown Has both died in Union Parish, La.

1. Mary Elizabeth M: A. R. Lively 6 Mar 1851; John Anthony 1856; Samuel Gathright Strozier 1872 Died 1903 Buried Mars Hill Cemetery near Point, La. B: 1831

2. Martha A. M; Benjamin Impson abt 1855; Samuel Gathright Strozier Dec. 1861 D: 1871 Buried Mars Hill Cemetery near Point, La. B: 1836

3. Eliza M; Tolbert Bell B: 1839

4. Susan M: Austin Honeycutt B: 1840

5. Sibel C. M: Dan E. Wilhite B: 1852

6. James F. M: Nancy Breesbeck B: 1842

7. Soloman B: 1855

8. William C. M: Emma E. Honeycutt B: 1845

9. Wesley

10. Nancy M; a Jones B: 1852

11. Lou Anne M: Hannibal Wilhite B: 1850

12. Sarah S.

There were no birth dates or death dates. Those were added by me using census or tombstones for reference. Some of these children I have not found on any document as of yet.

Hope this helps.

Cheryl

Austin HONEYCUTT, Union Parish, LA 1868

Hi,

In my research on my Abner Fletcher Wells family, I obtained a tutorship document from the Union Parish, La. courthouse. It is dated Oct 5, 1868 and is a tutorship for the minor children of A. F. Wells who was married to Martha A. "Fannie" Horton.

The document states that James F. Wells( son of A.F. and Fannie) was given tutorship of his monor siblings, Nancy Wells, Luann Wells, Susan S. Wells and Soloman Wells.

Austin Honeycutt was granted under tutor of these minor children. To date, I have found no connection from my Wells family to this Austin Honeycutt other than him being granted under tutorship of these minor children. That was almost always given to a relative.

If anyone would like a copy of this document, let me know and I will send it to you. Or, if anyone knows a connection of this Austin Honeycutt to any of the following, please let me know: Strozier, Wells, Anthony, Horton. All of Union Parish, La. And all families related by marriage.

Thank you,
Cheryl
