William Hood and the mysterious death record....

I have narrowed down to a three year span. Help! I need direction.
William Ramage Hood was born in Galishiels, Selkirkshire, Scotland, Christened on 26 Dec 1816. I have his birth record and his Father (the dude in question) was PRESENT. However, 3 years later in the 1861 census he is not listed. So I assume he died between 1858-1861. The family didn't move so they were still in Galashiels. What's my next step?

Hi Barbara,

I don't have too much information, but I would love to share what I have. You can email me at the email address associated with my profile. My membership expired, so I am unable to send you a message through here. If that won't work, post another message here, and I will provide my yahoo email.

My mother is the granddaughter of Robert Lore Hood, Sr. who was a brother of willam Walton. My mother remembers vaguely something about a William Walton (accounted for) and a Walton William. Don't know if the latter really existed or might have been a cousin.

I have letters that I need to transcribe that were written by Sallie to Robert when he served in the Army in WWI in France. They give some insight to their life in that era.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Sara Hood Nash

I have pictures to share of some of my family members of John Junior Hood-his son and others. I would like to share these with people that are family. He and family lived in Ludlow Township, Washington County, Ohio in the late 1800's thru the early 1900"s. Maybe others can help me identify people in the pictures. Thanks :)

Bedia Hood 1787 Nansemond, Virginia, triplet; Bethiah Hood 1788 Lancaster, South Carolina

Are Bedia and Bethiah the same person? Someone might be using the Christening date as the birthdate or something, which could explain the one-year birthday discrepancy.

Bedia Hood was the daughter of William Hood and Christiana Harris. I have not found information on whom she married or her children.

Bethiah Hood is said to be the daughter of Allen Hood and Grace ________ of Lancaster, SC, but I have not seen anything qualifying as proof. There's a lot of false genealogy around the Hood-Cousar family I am researching. I noticed there's an Allen who was Bedia's brother, which may be where the Allen idea is coming from.

Bethiah did in fact live in South Carolina. She was buried in Waxhaw, Lancaster, SC. Her first husband was a Cousar, I think Richard, but I could be wrong. Her second was Andrew Gamble.

Her children include Martha Agnes, Sarah Grace Elizabeth "Becky", and John A Gamble. By Mr. Cousar, it's possible she had Richard Henry and P N Cousar (female). Possibly Phoeba Nelson Cousar, but that's also a guess.

There is an Allen H Cousar buried in the same cemetery as Bethiah and her husband Andrew Gamble. Also a William K Cousar assumed to be her son.

George had a son - George and Robert had a daughter - Jean.
That is interesting, have you done you're family tree?My husband's grandfather was Patric Leonider hood, and his great grandfather was Kindrick Hood, but that is as far back as I have gotten. So I do not know the Hood ancestor who came over from Ireland. But I know the Hoods came from Ireland into Virginia, then into the Carolina's,then on to Mississippi, then onto Arkansas and into Oklahoma.I have heard that the Hood's are all related, but I have no docunmentation to prove that statement.I know there are still Hood families that still live in Ireland but I have not been in contact with them. But Patric Hood said his family was from Ireland, but he died in 1921 so we have no records, and Patric's children are all deceased, now just the
grandchildren are left, and there are 7 of them, but no one has any records, but we still claim our irish heritage.

My great grandfather Robert Henry Hood and his brother William A Hood(sons of Charles and Hannah Wyville Hood of Scoggog, Ontaro both emigrated from Ontaro to Neponset. The 1870 census has Robert as a loborer on the Norton farm and William goes on to marry Sarah Norton. Robert married Miriam Mear daughter of John Mear and Mary Bates Mear of Neponset and the next family to the Nortons in the 1870 census.

I always wondered why they came to the Neponset area and I think that Elizabeth Hood Sabler is the key to the answer. She was probably and aunt or great aunt to the two.

Robert (I'm not sure of William) came to Iowa to Creston and later both farmed south of Shenandoah, Iowa. William later left for Nebraska but Robert stayed and he and Miriam are buried in Rose Hill Cememtery in Shenandoah.

Mary Eleanor Hood

I am looking for information on my great-great grandmother, Mary Eleanor Hood (could be Elinor). I was told she was born Sep 7, 1968 in San Francisco, married James Breck, and died Jun 11, 1948 in LA County. The only Mary Elinor Breck I keep finding, the dates of birth and death don't match up. I have no leads on her family. Unfortunately, the majority of records in SF were burned in the 1906 earthquake, so I'm not having much luck. I have census records of her with James but no birth, marriage (I'm trying to figure out which of the 2 dates of marriage I have listed is correct) or death.

Thank you for any help or info!

I come from the TAIT FAMILY, Newtonstewart, County Tyrone. Omagh, No Ireland. My grandmother married a man by the name of Kees (aka Kee), she had a sister who married a man by the name of HOOD. We lived in Philadelphia, are Presbyterians, and my father had a cousin who lived 2 blocks away from us. His name was Ross HOOD or perhaps Robert Ross HOOD. They had a daughter by the name of Jean. I think the families knew each other in Ireland.

The children of Emma and Oliver were Lemont Morris Leavitt and Melvin Francis Leavitt. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Geoff

My grandfather's name was Jeff Hood married to Elizabeth Womack, He lived 1884-1942. If these names are associated with the bible. Or his mother and father (Mary Adams and Corbin Hood) I would be interested in the bible....

Thanks,

Charles Corbin Hood Jr.
