The only orginal brother or sister left is Uncle Martin and Aunt Joann. They both live in this area. Audra....I am Michael "Glenn" Hoopingarner, eldest son of Hosea Hoopingarner, jr. I really need access to all the family photo's, papers, Edna's bible, etc which were removed from her home when she passed. Accoding to my Dad, Dois Olson received all this stuff from her Mom. Yes I have located Levi and Catherine Hoopengarner in 1880 Census. They are in Harrison Township in Vigo County, page 295. The name barely looks like Hoopengarner. If you are looking at the 1880 index at the LDS site I can see why he does not appear in that index. It also looks as if his parents are in that household. Do you need me to send you the actual image?

Am scanning the headstone photo and will send to your AOL address. I also have obituaries for Levi and Catherine if you need them. Let me know, can have them to you in a flash if my scanner behaves.

Billy Joe Hoopingarner Jr., 30, of Terre Haute died at 10:33 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, 2005, in Union Hospital. He was employed with Hoosier Installers. He was born Nov. 21, 1975, in Terre Haute to Billy Joe Hoopingarner Sr. and Becky Hart Hoopingarner.

Survivors include his wife, Erika Emmons Hoopingarner; his mother and stepfather, Becky Hart and Herb McIntire; his father; five sons, Jacob, Gage, Junior, Ashten and Chase; three stepsons, Joey, Tyler and James; his grandmother, Kathryn Hart; one sister, Tina Emmons and her husband Sean; several aunts and uncles; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

He was a member of Eighth Avenue Baptist Church. He will be sadly missed, but will never be forgotten.

Services are 1 p.m. today in Callahan Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave., with the Rev. Dick Smith officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 11 a.m. until services.

Memorial contributions may be made to a memorial fund set up for his children in care of Old National Bank.

Chleada “Peanuts” Hoopingarner Pearson, 74, of Terre Haute died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2005, in Royal Oaks Health Care & Rehabilitation Center. She was employed as a housekeeper.

She was born Oct. 16, 1931, in Terre Haute to Wayne F. Hoopingarner and Chleada F. Kindred. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. Pearson, in 1999.

Survivors include three sons, Donald R. Pearson, Kevin L. Pearson and Brian A. Pearson and wife Tina; two daughters, Donna M. Pearson and Lynne A. Stout and husband Ron; one sister, Mary Jo Melvin; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by one son, Wayne E. Pearson, in 1978. She was a loving and giving person. She loved her pets, wildflowers, playing cards and loved to read.

Mass of Christian Burial is 2 p.m. Friday in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, with the Rev. Darvin Winters officiating. Burial is in Highland Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today in Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, with a rosary service at 7 p.m.

Hosea Louis H., Sr. is the son of James Louis H. who was the older brother of Joseph Henry. H. He and his wife, Lucretia Leanna Stufflebeam, had 12 children, the youngest of which is Hosea, Sr.

Yes, Preston had siblings, I have his line if you ever want it. My mother was a Hoopingarner and her brother's family lives in Florida. Their are some of her cousins here in Michigan named Hoopingarner so they are around.

One thing about this Hoopie clan from Indiana is that there were alot of cousins marrying cousins. I am actually descended from 3 of Conrad's children!!! Considering that there were very few White folks in Indiana in the the early 1800's it was more than likely a necessity.

If you ever need any info I have quite a bit.

I know that is true, Preston is buried about 2 miles from my home and every memorial day there is a flag on his grave and it is marked the 43rd. He is buried with others in the family at the pioneer cemetary on 82nd and Holgate in Portland, OR.

Actually Preston is the son of Daniel, the son of Conrad. Preston served in Company D, 43rd Indiana during the Civil War with my great-great grandfather Levi, his first cousin.

I just recently started researching the Hoopingarner side of my family, my grandmother is Doris Loraine, Hosea Louis and Lena Edna Chapman's daughter. Sorry I haven't checked here in a long time. I had a report that Hosea filled in for someone that fatal day. I liked to have never got a list of personnel that was killed that day. Do you have any idea where we could find whether Hosea was actually in the military at this time? My great uncle says Hosea Hoopingarner was buried in Colorado. Thanks for your great information.

I've gotten much more information since I posted the message that you replied to. Florinda died in 1881 in Vigo Co and is buried at 2nd Prairie Creek Cemetery. I visited the grave site with my cousin last fall. I also visited John Hoopingarner's grave along with his wife Mary Cornwell at Hull's Cemetery. Let me know what information you're interested in and I'll tell you whether I can help. I have quite a bit on the Hoopingarners now but very little on the Haskells. I can only get back to Reason's father, Isaac Haskell who married Elizabeth Meek in Indiana.

I have that she died "before 1900" due to the 1900 census. When did she die? I have their children as Rena Catherine, Samuel and Elizabeth Francis Haskell. Let's trade, eh!!

Thanks for the offer. I would appreciate any info on your Suzanna and any known/proven siblings. I like to get a feel for family names for comparison.
Do you and/or Glenn know just how Conrad is confirmed as George's Uncle? Was Hoopingarner in fact their surname leaving Rotterdam or was it a mistake (occupation) when they got off the boat? I have never seemed to come across the surname when looking into Dutch or German records, have you? Would be glad to share the family info I've gathered - my wife's branch comes through Pennsylvania to Tuscarawas Co OH and on to Wells Co IN.

I have the same idea that Conrad was on the Phonix 1752 dut with his brothers son George. I am quite sure the Conrad going to Indiana by way of Kentucky was born in Penn.
John going to Ohio was also born in Penn. The first three generation are quite confussing with conflicting information. I have been to Penn on several vists and plan more. A distance cousin still lives on the origional farm in Penn. with the log cabin still standing, with a new roof.

In Lawrence Co., IN marriage records, I found that Leanna Hoopingarner m. Robert Reynolds on 3/15/49, and that George Hoopingarner m. Katherine Reynolds on 2/5/46. My gg-grandmother was Elizabeth Reynolds, and she m. William Dale 1/6/1846. I do not know who her parents were, nor the names of any of her siblings. I would like to know whether Robert Reynolds and Katherine Reynolds were related to my Elizabeth Reynolds. Thought some reader might know.

First, Leaner Hoopingarner and Robert Reynolds are my gg-grandparents. Leaner and George Hoopingarner were first cousins (Leaner's father, Daniel, and George's father, Jacob, were brothers).

Secondly, Katherine Reynolds who married George Hoopingarner was Robert's sister. Robert and Katherine's parents were Thomas L. Reynolds and Nancy Henderson. Nancy had a brother, Jonathan Henderson, who married Nancy Dale on Sep 11, 1828 in Lawrence Co, IN. Nancy Dale and William Dale Jr. were brother and sister.

I have not been able to connect Elizabeth Reynolds to my family although I feel she must certainly be related. This is what I know about Elizabeth H. Reynolds Dale: She was born Sep 22, 1827 in KY. (This rules out Thomas and Nancy as her parents since Robert was born Feb 1, 1828.) According to the 1880 census, her father was born in KY and her mother in NC. She married William Dale Jr. on Jan 8, 1846 in Lawrence Co, IN. In 1850 they lived in Salt Creek Twp, Jackson Co, IN, just east of Lawrence Co where the Reynolds and Dales lived.

After much collaboration with another Dale researcher, I suspect that Abraham Reynolds and Catherine may be Elizabeth's parents. Abraham is supposedly an older son of Thomas L. Reynolds by his first wife (although I have not proven this). The Abraham Reynolds and William Dales were neighbors, and Elizabeth used some of the names of Abraham's children in her own family (including Josephus). She named one of her sons Josephus Hostetter, possibly indicating that her middle initial H. stood for Hostetter.

Keep in mind this is spectulation. If I find any more information regarding Elizabeth, I will be sure to post here.

Cem in Terre Haute, Vigo Co Ind. This Cem is located

she is the daughter of John Jacob Girton and Georgia Anna Cook.
Benjamin F. also married Nellie M. Whitaker in 1906
after Mary died in 1905.

My Grandmother, Alta Hoopingarner, had a father that carried the regimental flag for Custer. He was shot in the leg and in the hospital at the time of the last stand. His name was supposedly Pete Thompson though. Alta married Jacob Hoopingarner in Indiana. lcatt236@hotmail.com

I know my grandmother who had a brother named Robert Wesley Hoopingarner, never married and I don't know of any children. But that doesn't mean anything, because the family was a little permiscuis. I have never met a Hoopingarner, but I know there are some around. I know of one in the telephone book who I have tried to make contact with, but haven't had any success. I have a cousin in Washington who says she has a neighbor who is a Hoopingarner. I don't know if Preston (my g-grandfather) had a brother.

Yes George was a doctor. I am not a direct descendent. His second wife Linnie Vallance was my great grandfathers sister. He had two children with his first wife Josephine ones name was Mary I don't know the others name. And he had one child with Linnie named Isabel.

Levi is my great great grandfather, on my father's side. His mother was Catherine Eunice Hoopengarner.

Also, have you had any luck finding Levi and Catherine on the 1880 Census? I cannot find them under Levi's name.

Found Nicholas H. Hoopingarner on 1920 census in Joplin, Mo. born 1877 in Arkansas and was married to Margaret E. ? born in 1876 in Kansas. They had a child Brook J. Hoopingarner born in 1912 in Missouri. Would like to hear from any sibblings of this family. My address has changed to Jimbo1936@worldnet.att.net
