The middle name for Douglas Hoops was Joseph.
The information I have shows Joseph Hoops and Margret (most often spelled without the a after the g)Campbell having 2 sons. Their son George Barry emigrated to Detroit around 1902, about the time that he married Elizabeth (Lizzie)Ann Scott, she joining him in 1903. Their first child, Elizabeth Deware Hoops, was born and died in 1912, and is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Detroit (according to the death certificate). I have a hunch that is where George Barry Hoops, wife Lizzie, and George's parents, Joseph & Minnie Hoops are buried. I sent a letter asking about these burials to Woodlawn Cemetery, Detroit about a year ago, but I guess they don't reply to these types of enquries. I would really appreciate any help you might have on finding the above burial info. Your grandfather George died 31 Dec. 1963 (newspaper article), but I don't know when Lizzie died.
Ancestry also has draft registration info for George Barry, giving a personal description which is kind of interesting.

My uncle Douglas J. Hoops, not sure about the J. Was married to Helen Hoops who last lived in Bloomfield Hills, Mich. Not sure she is still alive. Lost track when she inherited many millions from an aunt in Canada who's husband was an original investor in ESSO oil of CA. Had two daughters Patty and Sally Hoops.

How exciting to finally find some family of George Barrie Hoops! I barely know where to begin, but hope you are interested in sharing info with your Canadian cousins.
George's father, Joseph Hoops, was the brother of my great grandmother, Margaret Hoops, who married Donald (Dan) MacTavish.
I've been trying to find out where Joseph and his wife Margaret are buried - I assume in Detroit, but there are so many cemeteries there, and my letter writing has not reaped any results.
I'll write more later, but must get to work here for now.

My grandfather was a medical doctor in in Detroit . My mother was Janette hoops. She was adopted by my grand father and his wife elizabeth. my uncle doug was also adopted. He had an office in the Fisher building. I believe he died when I was 16 so we may not be talking about the same person. He practiced a Grace hospital at john r and brush in the city. my mother grauated as a nurse from the same hospital.

just seen this today.anna meta hoops is also my great great grandmother. my great great grandfather gustav and anna meta's son henry was my grandfather b4/6/1883 d 11/13/56 in california.anna meta born 1/2/1842 d 12/18/1898. gustav and anna meta lived in daly city,calif until their deaths. gustav and anna meta's son henry married mable burns who had 4 children-hugo,herman(my father)helen and hazle.i probably have more information but have not found much on gustav and anna meta until i seen your post it. any additional info would be appreciated. we must be related. hope you see this message.

I am trying to contact living relatives of Henry Hoops who was residing at Windward Cove Condos in New Port Richey Florida. My husband retrieved pictures of family from the trash when they moved out of their condo and moved back north. These pictures must be wanted by someone who may be doing research on this Hoops family. On the back of one picture says Aundrey with Hildregard's dress. It is a picure of a little girl. On another picture is Audrey and Madison. I also have two pictures of one couple who just married. I also have a picture of I believe Henry Hoops and his wife and also a picture of their daughter and her husband. I am assuming that the young wedded couple is a granddaughter of Henry.

If you w3ant these pictures I will gladly mail them to a memeber of the family or who ever is doing research on this family. There are four generations here of this family.

I am looking for any family or business information on a Dr. George Barry Hoops lived Detroit Michigan circa 1882-1956 or later. He was a first cousin of my Grandmother - May McTavish Lavender, and he may not have married. His parents were Joseph & Minnie Hoops from Canada, emigrating to the U.S. in the 1880's we think.

Thursday, January 30, 1908

JOHN H. HOOPS was born in Perry County, Ohio, March 10, 1825. At the age of
27 he was united in marriage to HESTER A. FALLS. To this union were born
nine children, three of whom died in infancy. FRANK, the eldest son, died
March 6, 1898. Five children survive him, three sons and two daughters,
CHARLES of Red Oak, Ia.; JOHN of Russell, Ia.; WILLIAM of St. Anthony, Idaho
MARY ALLEN of Healdsburg, California, and IDA NOBLE of Dallas, Iowa. His
three sons were with him at the time of death, his daughters being unable to
be present on account of sickness.

The deceased united with the M.E. Church at the age of 16 years and was a
consistent member until the time of his death, which took place at the home
of his son CHARLES at Red Oak, Ia. He died at the age of 82 years, 10 months
and 16 days. His wife preceded him to the better land Sept. 7, 1897. He
came to Lucas County in 1866 and located near Russell where he lived until
the death of his wife, when he went to make his home with his daughter IDA
at Dallas, Marion County, Iowa.

He was a true Christian, a kind husband and a loving father and besides his
five children left to mourn his loss with several grandchildren, he leaves a
host of friends who feel they have lost a true friend and a kind neighbor.
The body was brought to Russell, Monday, Jan. 27th on train No. 4 and was
cared for by friends until the funeral services which were held Tuesday at
10:30 a.m. in the M.E. Church being conducted by D.J. Shenton. The
interment was in the Russell Cemetery.

Yes they were living in the Wisconsin area. Yes I still have the pictures of this family. I have them in Storage in Florida and will be bringing all of my furniture out of storage in the next few weeks as we have moved backed to Michigan. I will let you know when I get them unpacked. I have several Henry Hoops in my family history, but unfortunately I have not traced this to the future beyond the 1930's. Where "up north" was Henry moved? The Hoops family I am from settled in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Please let me know if you still have pictures.

My grandmother's name was Mary Jane Hoops Lakey, she was born in Missouri in 1895 and died in 1981 in Michigan she had several brothers and sisters. Some of their names Larry, Either, . Her fathers name was James Hoops.

My grandfather's name was Joseph Hoops. His mother's name was Elizabeth but I do not know his fathers name. I know his mother was married several times. He had a sister Mary. He married my grandmother, Carrie Whitt, in Scioto County ,Ohio in 1936. They were not married long. Later he moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. That is about all we know. He and my grandmother had one child, my mother, Shirley. He lived with a woman named Dale who had I think two daughters but they were grown when their mother moved in with my grandfather. BLUEFIELD, Va. - Roy S. Hoops, 49, of Bailey Switch, Bluefield, Va., died Sunday, March 16, 2003 in a Radford, Va. hospital following an auto accident. He was born at Tip Top, Va., and was a son of the late Sam Hoops and Laura Lewis Hoops.

Roy was a former employee for the Norfolk & Western Railroad before becoming disabled. He was of the Pentecostal faith, a member of the Bluefield Moose Lodge No. 1079, attended Graham High School and was an avid Graham Football fan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Trula Johnson, Eula Johnson, Madeline Ann Hoops; and by brothers, Samuel George Hoops Jr. and Bobby Leroy Hoops.

Survivors include his wife, Michelle Hall Hoops; sons, Brian Hoops and wife Tanya of Wytheville, Va., Shannon Hoops of Charlotte, N.C., and Shane Hoops of the home; stepson, Matthew Price of the home; brother, Clarence Eugene (Buster) Hoops of Tip Top; sisters, Elnor McFadden of Lebanon, Va., Clara Williams of Bluefield, Va., Rosa Farmer of Richlands, Va., and Janice Smith of Tip Top.; grandsons, Nicholas and Isaac Hoops and also a granddaughter who lives in Charlotte, N.C.; stepmother, Sylvia Hoops of Bluefield, Va.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Dudley Memorial Chapel in Bluefield, Va. with the Rev. Mark McFadden, the Rev. Darrell Hall and the Rev. Dennis McLamore officiating. Burial will follow in the Grandview Memory Gardens on the Bluefield-Tazewell Road.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. Friday.
