Thomas Hope 1701-1777

Many family trees have Thomas Hope 1701-1777 (Presbyterian) of Sadsbury TWP. Chester County PA as the son Thomas Hope 1685 – 1708 (Quaker) Kennett TWP, Chester County PA and Elizabeth Stanfield.

This is not a valid family connection, recent genealogy research and DNA testing has disproved the link. Thomas Hope 1685 – 1708 (Quaker) Kennett TWP, Chester County PA and Elizabeth Stanfield in all probability never had any children. No records have been found to support them having any children.

Thomas Hope 1701-1777 (Presbyterian) of Sadsbury TWP. Chester County PA was in all probability part of a large influx of Irish Presbyterians (Scots/Irish) who emigrated from the British Isles to Chester County PA in the 1720’s and 1730’s.

DNA testing of Thomas Hope 1701-1777 (Presbyterian) of Sadsbury TWP. Chester County PA descendents supports this hypothesis. This same DNA testing applies to James Hope 1705-1778, who was closely related to Thomas; possibly a brother. Go to http://www.hopednaproj.com to see the DNA test results.

No records have been found of exactly when, where or how Thomas Hope 1701-1777 (Presbyterian) of Sadsbury TWP. Chester County PA emigrated. The first records of the Presbyterian Hope’s appear in the 1730’s for Chester County PA. No earlier records have been found.

The Thomas Hope who was disowned by the Quakers; was in all probability the son of John Hope (Quaker) of Kennett. Solid records are available for him up to his death in 1749. Thomas Hope the Presbyterian and Thomas Hope the Quaker were both alive and living in Chester County at the same time for 20+ years. Genealogy researchers 60+ years ago merged the two men into one, they did not have the documentation available today.

I have a fairly complete chronology of Hope surnamed persons in Chester County from 1865 -1791 if you would like to see it.

I know this is controversial to some people but since some of the confusion stems from old family trees of mine and my ancestors I desided I needed to post this.

Respectfully
