Seeking any information about Hugh HOPEWELL and Richard HOPEWELL who were in St. Mary's County, Maryland around the early 1700s.
The will of a John WISEMAN was written in 1703 and proved in court in St. Mary's County in 1704. In the will he bequeathed lands to his sons (including a John, Jr.) he had purchased from Hugh HOPEWELL. One of the appraisers of John WISEMAN's estate was a Richard HOPEWELL.
In 1753 in St. Mary's County a John WISEMAN witnessed the will of John SMITH. John SMITH's daughter was married to HOPEWELL ADAMS, an executor of John SMITH's will.
I am wondering if my Hopwell ADAMS' mother might have been a HOPEWELL before her marriage. The name HOPEWELL is not a common given name and wondered if anyone has information on HOPEWELL daughters of Hugh or Richard.
