You can get her Social Security Application from SSA for a fee and it will have her parents names on it. She is in the SSDI - Social Security Death Index under MARTHA GREGORY

It will also give her place of birth. You can check with Ellis Island for all the documents she provided to emigrate to the US and those may have even more information and from there, you should be able to get family information from the government in Cardiff, Wales.

Hope this helps.

I would like to confirm the DOD in Cleveland. The later date is shown in SSDI. I believe that her father was: Walter Benjamin HOPKINS of TN (1902-1958). I would like to ascertain if this was his spouse (mother of Reva specifically): Elizabeth LASURE. These names are in a new branch of my Family Tree and I wish to ascertain ancestors of all. Reva was divorced from her 1st spouse Everette Cecil PALMER and I would like to ascertain that date, and inquire if Reva later remarried.

I am looking for any information on Hopkins (mother)/Toomey (father) marriage. It had to be back in the 1860's or the 1870's. They had at least two sons, Sydney James and Oswald. Sydney was my grandfather, born in Wales in 1881. I would appreciate any information and would love to find out some history on this family. Thanks. Patti Lawrence

Re: Amy L Hopkins married George Lewis ( died 1917)

Since I have access to the microfilms of Marriages and also of Deaths in Ireland for those years, I thought I'd do some searching. LEWIS was not really common and I did find the deaths of some George LEWISes, but not in 1917. Perhaps the death was not in Ireland ? I checked all 4 quarters for 1914-1918 and found a few but they were all 50 plus years old. How OLD was George when he died in 1917 ? I only found these deaths :

1914
1Q, George LEWIS, 50, Dublin North 2-369

1915
none

1916
2Q, George LEWIS, 72, Carlow 3-298
2Q, George LEWIS, 86, Ballymena 1-71
2Q, George LEWIS, 76, Lurgan 1-510

1917
none

1918
none

And I don't think that second marriage took place in Ireland, checked the filmed books [like the deaths, these are images of the original books published in Ireland] and from 1906 through 1921, there was absolutely no ATHAWES marriage anywhere in Ireland. Checked all quarters in all years and never did find that name once. About the only ATH combination was ATHY. Looking at the books allows you to check any other spellings that might be nearby. For example, if I'd found an ATHAWYS [which I didn't] it would be adjacent to where I'd be looking for ATHAWES. Odd spellings are harder to investigate with online databases.

Write back if I can maybe help with locating a Marriage, Birth or Death in Ireland.
Hello -

I would like to see the death certificate you mention as they are not generally available in Tennessee before 1908.

I have information that agrees with Darla's post. Mary Jane Meek (b. 04 Dec 1817 - d. 28 Mar 1893 in Bedford County, TN) married Elihugh Houston Hopkins on 17 Dec 1835.

However, Eli's brother, William Walker Hopkins, married Martha Jane Cleek on 21 Aug 1847 in Marshall County, Tennessee. She was born 28 Aug 1828 in Tennessee and died 11 Aug 1908 in Bedford County, Tennessee.

I do not currently have a record for a Malinda Jane Cleek who married a Hopkins, so would be very interested in who you are referring to.

Thanks,
Kathryn

I am looking for information about Fred W. Hopkins, who in 1920 was living at 1362 Otis Place, Washington, DC.

Fred W. Hopkins aided fatally wounded District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Officer, Oscar McKimmie, after McKimmie was shot responding to a burglery. Hopkins transported Officer McKimmie to a local hospital in January 1920. Officer McKimmie died on the way to the hospital.

Officer Mckimmie was buried in an unmarked grave in Washington, DC until this past year when Police Academy Cadets from the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Academy made arrangements for the purchase of a tombstone and dedication ceremony.

The dedication ceremony is scheduled for October 24, 2009, 10:00 am, at Glenwood Cemetery, Washington, DC.

If anywone knows of any relatives or decendants of Fred W. Hopkins, please contact me as soon as possible.
George HOPKINS Family of Trenton, New Jersey area 1850-1870 & Later?

Have you researched this family group? Looking to exchange information with interested researcher(s) of this family.

George HOPKINS, b. ca. 1821-24, NJ
Deborah HOPKINS, his wife, b. ca. 1830, NJ

Their children, all b. NJ: Franklin, b. ca. 1854; Georgeanne, b. 09 May 1856; Anna Mary, b. 25 Dec 1857; Amy, b. Nov 1860; Ina/Inna, b. ca. 1868. Anna Mary and Amy married CARSON brothers in Trenton, Mercer Co., New Jersey in 1875. I have further information on these two sisters, but not the others.

The George HOPKINS family was enumerated in Hamilton Twp., Mercer Co., New Jersey in 1850 and 1860, and in Trenton in 1870.

Deborah HOPKINS was listed as a widow in an 1874 city directory, so George HOPKINS presumed deceased between 1870 and 1874. Cannot locate the family in Trenton after 1875, except for possible listings of son Frank HOPKINS living in Chambersburg area 1880-1881 (city directory listings).

George HOPKINS may have been the son of Mary HOPKINS, a widow living next door to him in 1850 old enough to have been his mother (she was age 49). If so, then the younger siblings of George would have been Hiram, Mary A., Charles and Jacob, all b. between ca. 1832 and 1844 in NJ.

It appears that I may be descended from the Mayflower passenger Stephen Hopkins through three family lines, but each has its own brick wall. So....

Does anyone have any information concerning a Polly / Mary Hopkins, born February 01, 1773 in Harwich, Massachusetts, died September 01, 1866 (where?) who married Daniel Baker on March 30, 1793 Harwich, Massachusetts? She may have been the daughter of Moses Hopkins and Mary Burgess, Moses being the son of Samuel Hopkins, etc. back to the Mayflower passenger Stephen Hopkins. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
I cannot tell you definitively who Frances' parents are (although from the names I would suggest John and Jane Hopkins, but I can tell you that Colonel Littleberry Leftwich's parents were Augustine and Mary (Mosley) Leftwich. Since Polly is a nickname for Mary, I would guess the 2nd daughter might have been named for Frances' mother, and naming her son John Hopkins Leftwich would suggest to me she was naming him for her father.

My notes on Augustine are:

Lived in early life in Caroline County, VA, formed in 1728 from Essex, King William and a part of King & Queen County. Served in the French & Indian Wars in 1758 (Henning).

by TX Society, Daughters of the American Revolution: Roster Revolutionary Ancestors, V. III, p. 1274-1275: LEFTWICH, AUGUSTINE, SR., born about 1712/15, New Kent Co. (Caroline Co.), VA,d. 1795, Bedford Co., VA, m. about 1736 (1) _____, m. (2) Mrs. Elizabeth Fuqua Stovall, Dec. 2, 1779, Bedford Co., VA.
Service: Patriot. Rendered material aid. Records of Bedford Co., VA, show he took a prominent part in political & civic
affairs of the county from its formation in 1753 until his death in 1795.
Benjamin F. Hopkins obit (1870)

Death of Hon. B.F. Hopkins. We regret to learn of the death of our old friend Hon. Benjamin F. Hopkins, member of the Second Congressional district of Wisconsin, which took place at Madison on Sunday. He had been ill for several months and had not taken his seat in Congress during the present session. Hopes were entertained of his recovery until within a few days. We are not apprised of the nature of his disease.

Benjamin Franklin Hopkins, son of Irving Hopkins, was born in Granville, Washington County, New York, April 22, 1829. He received an academic education, and when about twenty-five years of age, removed to Madison, Wisconsin, where his brother, James C. Hopkins, resided, and engaged in general business pursuits. He was private secretary to the Governor of Wisconsin in 1856 and 1857. He was a member of the House of Representatives of Wisconsin in 1865 and of the State Senate in 1862 and 1863. He was elected to the fortieth Congress, and was re-elected to the forty-first Congress as a Republican, receiving 18,333 votes against 12,659 votes for Winans, democrat. He was chairman of the Committee on Public Buildings and Grounds, also a member of the Committee on the Pacific Railroad. He was pre-eminently a business man, and took good rank among his colleagues, and was popular among his constituents. Congressman Turner of the Sixteenth New York District, is also a native of Granville, thus making two members of the present Congress that were born in that town.
[Rutland Herald, Jan. 5, 1870, Washington item]

alot of the information online is not correct. even family history I found about my own great grandparents who raised me was wrong....
Everyone seems to want to claim to be a mayflower descendant, but they never go through the steps to prove it.

Amy L Hopkins married George Lewis ( died 1917)

Hi,

My 2nd Great Grandmother Amy L Hopkins was married to a man called George Lewis. He died in 1917 and She then remarried to my 2nd Great Grandfather Samuel Wilberforce Athawes.

I know that Samuel was in the Army and servied in Ireland. I am trying to trace Samuel on the 1901 census records for England or Ireland (Not sure where he was) and their marriege record. As on the 1911 census record it says that they have been married for 4yrs, where as the British Marriage Index states that they got married in 1917.

Would be interested if they where married before 1917.

They did have 5 children only one being born in Ireland at Newbridge, Kildare.

Any suggestions or ideas would be really appreciated

Ooooh, I don't know. That sounds like it went down the Hopkins side. I'm from Stephen Hopkins' daughter Deborah, who married into the Ring family probably around 1650-ish. Then it's Ring for the next 7 generations. Thanks for answering though! Demaris
