Josephine(a) met my great-grandfather (Matthew(Max) Swint, married and settled in the Catskill New York area where their first couple of kids were norn. She lived there with his mother while he went to Connecticut to work at the new felting mill in Greenwich. They settled there, had other kids and stayed till their deaths. Josephine had a brother Charles? who went to the Ohio area. Was a builder? Just learning about them really.Came from Prussia? Her mothers maiden name was Volker possibly. Let me kn ow how this fits. When I have mentioned that name in the past, no-one really knew about them. My Hoppe's lived in Peshtigo for a while, and Brillion, Hewitt area.
First names included Alvina, Ferdinand, Herman and Bertha.

Do you want any dates?

Thanks for the reply. I can't find any connections, although I do have Wichmann/Wickman/Wiegman in my database. I have quite a few Hoppes that I am unable to connect who were living in Oshkosh, Kaukauna, and New London. It's interesting to note that there were a lot of Hoppes living in Sheboygan.

My guess is that these other Hoppes are somehow connected to my Hoppe line and preceded them in settling in the Fox River Valley area... perhaps even encouraging my direct Hoppe line to emigrate in 1892 (the Fox River Valley was a destination for many Pommern emigrants). Do you have any Gresenz or Kranzusch in your line?

Hi, I haven't done this before, so here goes. My relatives are Alvinia (HOPPE) Wichmann/Weigmann, and she emigrated with her parents (Ferdinand and Bertha) in about 1869. I can find her in Menasha, Wis. in 1870, but she is missing in 1880, and then I know she married into the Weigman side in March 1882--Karl Fred. Martin Wichmann. I can find both in 1900, and I have their marriage info. I know Ferdinand died in 1882 and Bertha lived in Brillion, Calumet, Wisconsin. I am still trying to get her death date. I have the names of Alvina and Karl's children, and some of her family (I'm pretty sure). I am more familiar with the Weigman's as that is my direct line. My Great grandfather, the son of Alvina and Karl/Carl was Carl Ferdindand Weigmann and married my Great grandmother Rose O'Donnell. They lived in Kaukauna, Wisc. all their lives. Does any of this ring a bell?

My great grandmother was Josephine Hoppe Swint. She had a brother Henry. They settled in the Catskill/Albany area of new York. Later Henry went west to the Chicago/Cleveland area. Josephine married Matthew Swint and settled in Connecticut. I have been told that her mothers maiden name was Volker. They came from Prussia.Have no idea how many of the family came here or where they all went. I am just getting into the research of all this. Thanks, Joan

My great grandmother, Josephine Hoppe, born in Prussia, came to the USA with her family in the 1800's. She married Matthew Swint(Luxembourg) and settled and raised her family in Connecticut. One brother, we believe his name was Henry but who knows, was in construction in the Chicago/Cleveland area and may have been killed in a construction accident. I have been told Josephines mothers maiden name was Volker. Does any of this fit? Thanks, Joan

Morning, In talking to another Hoppe descendant I have learned that one of the Male Hoppe men was in construction and died in a building accident. He lived in the Chicago, Cleveland area. Does this sound like anything you have heard??? I do not know how many of the family came to the USA. Josephine, Henry(Harry?), siblings and maybe parents came from Prussia.
Haven't heard from the person you mentioned. If weather holds out I am meeting a cousin (Josephines great grandson. Guess he is my 2nd cousin) to go over what history we have. Will le you know if I learn anything. Joan

I am wanting to find out more information on Peter Hoppe and his family. He was born around 1835 and died in 1903. I am not positive where he was born. It was either Chicago, Illinois or Germany. His wife's name was Mary Haethly or Fetke. Different family papers have her with different last names. She was born around 1843 in Chicago, IL and died in 1916 in Chicago, IL.
I have researched all the records I can find and have been unable to find any information on him.
