Hopper in Perry County, Al

Researching Hopper's in Perry County, Al. My great great grandmother was Malinda Hopper/Harper. Some of her children were Elizabeth(Betty)Hopper Gay, Jennie Hopper Peoples, Emmaline Hopper Williams, Anna, Martha, Lafayette/Frederick, and my great grandmother Bamma Hopper Heard Williams Morton. Doesn't seem to have married after 1870 because on some of children's death certificates, their father's names were Jack Goodger? and Sam Abercrombie. I only have Malinda listed in 1870 and 1880 Census as 1890 census was destroyed and she doesn't appear in 1890 census of Alabama that was salvaged. 1870 census she is about 35 years old. The area of Perry County was called Pinetuckey back then and some of her children have Mt. Gileod listed as burial site. Some other surnames are Rutledge, Dobyne, Thomas, Goree

My research agrees with yours. I do not show any data in my tree prior to Joseph S. Hopper married to Jane Monroe because I am un certin about the connections. Harmon Hopper is my 3rd great grandfather, I am 79 years old. Maria "Ree" Pratt Hopper's husband is a descendant of the New Jersey Dutch Hoppe(n/Hopper line. Maria has written several books about the Dutch families who settled in Bergin and the surounding aras of New Jersey. Maria as a web site that is very interesting called Ree's Trees. Her husband's Hopper line isn't connected to ours although some have shown a connection which was mentioned earlier in this thread. The y-DNA evidence shows no connection. All of us should consider joining the y-DNA Hopper project and testing so we can sort out these early Hopper lines.

I would be interested in knowing who Sarah Hopper and Dolway Purvis' children were? Did they have a son named Dolway Purvis? If so, he could have been my great, great, grandfather.
My Dolway Purvis left Tyrone, Ireland in 1847 and ended up in Belle River, Ontario, Canada.
I would imagine that after all these years you have more information. In case you don't, your great-grandfather Eddie B. Hopper's parents were Frank Hopper and Allie Glacock [this according to your great-grandfather's death certificate, which is online at http://pilot.familysearch.org].
Hi Angela

There are obvious similarities but I don’t think this is the same family. I am not certain when my Mary Hutchinson was born but she married Edward Hopper on 26 Sept 1792. This would make her about 50 when your John and Jane Hopper were born.
Nana I was interested in your note of Jan. 2002 re the HOPPER names of;Thomas, Daniel, Tillman. My ggg grandfather was Thomas Hopper sr, who was born in N.C. about 1770-1780.He was in Grainger co. Tn by 1810, Bedford co Tn by 1820,and Henderson co Tn by 1830. He died in Carroll co Tn about 1853 while living with his son John Hopper(my ancestor). He is said to have had 18 children. Some of their names are;John and his twin Thomas jr, Scott, Tillman, Daniel, Charles, Joseph, George, and Susan. Thomas sr applied for Rev. War penwsion benefits, but was rejected. A family story says that of 3 Hopper brothers, one went to Harden co Tn, one went to Texas, and one to Henderson co Tn( and then to Carroll co Tn. I would like to hear from you or anyone else that may be connected. email bjdinkins@sbcglobal.net jim

My James Conklin had sons Jacob b. 1790 and James b. 1800 Orange County (Rockland County was formed from Orange Conuty in late 1790s). I believe there must have been other siblings.
Please, please let me know if anyone ever pins down the parentage on William R Hopper b 1797. I'm wondering why the multiple parent names - adoption? native American heritage? parents not married? Is he Barrow, Hopper or Perry? This has me really frustrated, because my mother is a Hopper and I can't find half of my direct ancestry! We're descended from either Cosby or Andrew depending on which records you run across. Most people show John W as Cosby's son, but the census records show Cosby having a John O Hopper as a son and Andrew having a John W. Close enough for me regardless.

I'm descended from the Hoppers in Weches Cemetery, in case you run across anyone who needs info on them. John and Geneva were my GGparents. My mother is Iva Irene Hopper, dau of Charley T Hopper and Carrie Warren. I've traced everyone back to William Reuben Hopper b1797 Georgia, but OneWorldTree has three alternate sets of parents for him. Frustrating!
