I have some information on Thomas Benoni Hopson who I believe was my 4th great grandfather. He was the father of many children in NC. I believe one of his daughters was Charity Hopson born about 1804 who married my 3rd great grandfather Samauel Freeman. Samuel and Charity named their children after the Hopsons, i.e, my 2nd great grandfather Littleton Freeman who I believe was named after his uncle, Charity Hopson Freeman's brother Littleton Hopson. Samuel Freeman and Charity Hopson also named their daughter Charity. In the 1830 federal census in Burke Co., NC., Thomas Benoni Hopson is living in the household next to my Samuel Freeman. One of Samuel Freeman and Charity Hopson's sons John Freeman married Almeda Moore and moved to Scott Co., VA where Almeda was from. Another son, James Freeman married Nancy Osbourne and settled in Floyd Co., KY not far from other Hopson families. I believe this might have been Evan Hopson. I have more information. If you'd like to commuicate with me I'd be happy to share what I have. Please email me at buster21047@yahoo.com

After 1805, HOPSON couple mysteriously disappears from Rutherford County, North Carolina records. What happened?!

Henry HOPSON married Elizabeth GOODE 21 March 1805 in Rutherford County, North Carolina. Henry's parents are Neville HOPSON and Susannah "Susan" or Sarah RAGLAND. Elizabeth's parents are Richardon B. GOODE and Nancy Charlotte POINDEXTER.

Henry and Elizabeth HOPSON seem to disappear from all records at this point in time. We have no further information on them. Did they move out of North Carolina? Did they move to Kentucky as some of Henry's siblings did?

Any assistance you can give us concerning this couple and any offspring they may have had would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Andrew,

Unfortunately, since my original post, nothing has changed. We still do not know the names of any of Henry HOPSON's and Elizabeth GOODE's offspring, if there were any. Following is a ist of Henry HOPSON'S siblings. Several of them went to Kentucky and could be the missing link for your HOPSON. Please let me know if you find your connection.

Good luck!
Neville HOPSON born Oct. 1755 in Virginia, died 7 Dec 1835 in Kentucky and married @1777 in Virginia to Sarah or Susannah "Susan" RAGLAND born @1755 in Virginia and died in Kentucky. Their children were: Henry HOPSON born @1778; Mary Ragland "Polly" HOPSON born 10 Jul 1780; Joseph HOPSON born 1782 and married Ms. CLARK; William HOPSON, b. 1784; Susannah Ragland HOPSON born 04 JUL 1787; Anne Ragland HOPSON born 31 Jul 1790, died 31 Mar 1871, Christian County, Kentucky and marred 14 Dec 1807 in Rutherford County, North Carolina to John "Jack" LUMPKIN born 1785; Evan Ragland HOPSON born @1801 in North Carolina.

Some of the family did appear to move from North Carolina to Kentucky. I hope some of these names will be of help to you.

Hopson's from Kentucky and/or Missouri

I am looking for anyone who might have information on Hopson's from Paducah, Kentucky or St. Louis, Missouri. Some names include Jack Hopson, Jill, MaryBelle, and Charles. Jack Hopson owned a restaurant in St. Louis called Jack's Lunch Truck Stop, he also owned a bar and a store but I do not know the names of those. I am looking for anyone who might possibly recall these places (they would have been opened in the 1960's) or may possibly have pictures. Any information is appreciated :)

Hopson plantation in Coahoma Co. MS

There was more than 1 large Hopson plantation. Thus, your search may be more difficult. William H. Hopson, George
B. Hopson and Joseph J. Hopson all had vast acreage. And to make things more challenging they married into other large
estates. I am decended from Joseph J. Hopson. I think this is correct....my mother was Annelle Hopson Giffen, her father was Richard Nelson Hopson, then Howell Harrison Hopson, another Howell Harrison Hopson,M.D., poss another Howell then Joseph J.. I have a huge amt of info which might be helpful. As I organize it, I will post anything that might be useful. Our Hopson plantation is still being
farmed. It is also the site of "Blues"festivels. Speaking of Blues, I remember bluesman,Son House. He worked for my grandfather, as a tractor driver. Oh, another tid bit..our Hopson plantation was the site of the 1st completely mechanized cotton crop! This was in 1944, by my gfather Richard and his bro Howell H.
Happy to share... post or email me
Beth
Looking for descendants of Richard and Catherine Hopson;
"History of Huron County, Michigan, 1884" re son John Hopson
Richard Hopson, the father of the subject of this sketch was born August 7, 1777, in Ireland. He married Catherine Anderson, a native of Scotland. Seven of their children were living at the time the family emigrated to the United States in 1835. Five are still living. At the family reunion, August 9, 1884, all were present save one brother. A remarkable fact concerning the family is that August 7 is the birthday of the father and also of 2 sons. The former died in Detroit, December 26, 1841. The decease of the mother occurred at the same place in September, 1842."
Sons were Thomas of Detroit; Nathaniel of Chicago; Richard of Detroit, John of Huron Co, MI; Joseph of Chicago; daughters, Catherine m. Thomas Armstrong; Margaret m. Thomas Jordan.
Thank you

Hi, My name is Kay. I noticed that your posting was quite old, so you may not still be out there.....But I believe we share common ancestors. My grandmother, Candes Mabrey Bishop was the daughter of Lutecia Adeline Hopson Mabrey. Lutecia's parents were Isaac and Mary. I know that Lutecia had a brother named David W. Hopson. I have some of my great grandmothers books and on the inside cover of one is the name D.W. Hopson. My grandmother Candes lived in Cullman, and Holly Pond, Alabama. If you should see my reply, please respond. I would love to compare notes!
Best Regards,
Kay Bazemore

Email me directly at akevanslg@prodigy.net. I have information on her parents (father's will) and siblings and her children by Christopher Barbee. She married James Motley after Christopher II (did that as his dad was Christopher and so was her son!) died. They moved to Kentucky. I have a transcribed record from Chatham County NC where James Motley is giving power of attorney to her brother Lewis to sell land he obtained from another of the Barbees. I live very close to where this family lives and have photos of the cemetery where her grandson, George W Barbee (son of Christopher and Jean Shepherd Barbee) is buried. Personally know many of the descendants of that line plus descendants of other children of Christopher and Jean Barbee. Also, have a little bit on her daughters.
