I've been searching for some time for any info on Rachael after the death of husband John in 1841 in Marion Co., TN. I believe they may have had a daughter (Cyntha or Cynthia) who later married Andrew J. Morgan (son of Bartlett Morgan from N.C.) Cyntha was my gg-grandmother. Rachael may have re-married soon after John's death, but on my g-grandmother's death certificate Cyntha is listed as a Hornbeak. Any info would be much appreciated.

Karla (Morgan) Lynch

N.Y. her father was Gurnzy Hornbeck, Born Aug 8, 1869 in Hillsdale, N.Y. Died May 2, 1940 in Napanoch, N.Y. and is buried in Pinebrush Cem. N.Y. I know Gurnzy had a sister, Nancy who married J. Mansfield and owned Maple Rest boarding house in Napanoch, N.Y. That is all I have.

Hi Ralph...I have some old photos of the Hornbecks in my husband's family. I've also done some research into the family history as well and would be glad to share data with you.

Our Hornbecks in America begin with:
Warnaar c.1660-1715 of Ulster Co., NY
Johannes 1685-1768 of Ulster Co., NY
Jonathan 1730-1758 of Ulster Co., NY + Hampshire, WV
Benjamin 1754-1827 of Randolph Co., WV
Moses 1785-1873 of Randolph + Upshur Co., WV
James 1825-1888 of Barbour + Upshur Co., WV
William 1862-1949 of Upshur Co., WV
Esta May 1881-1925 of Upshur Co. WV + Ashtabula Co., OH

Esta married Albert Bennett in 1904 and connected Hornbecks with Bennetts. I married Esta's grandson.

Do any of those names match yours? Hope this helps. Feel free to email me for more data. I see that Shirley Hornbeck has replied to you. She runs the Hornbeck website and is a good info source.

Joyce Bennett

I have a Dr. Henry Isaac Hornbeck, b.1780, d. 1832 who m. Phoebe Jones. He lived in Ulster County and practiced medicine around Montgomery/Newburgh area.

He had a child, Henry William, born 1810, d. 1840 who married Elizabeth Phillips. They lived in Phillipsburg, Orange NY, I believe. They did have a Henry but he died as an infant. His father must have died shortly after.

In searching Hornbecks for some time, I find few Henry's among the crew. So, Your William Henry was of interest to me.

Not sure if this helps, but it may be a lead.

I checked back to Dr. Henry's father, Isaac and there is no Henry there. So, somewhere along the line, one crept in. They were all from Ulster and Orange County (early on it was Ulster)

sue

I was reading a Query posted Dec 23 1999 about Malinda J. Cook, married Louis Hornbeck, I don"t know if this will help but in the 1870 BigCreek Craighead County Ark. Census a Louis Humberger and Malinda J. Cook are listed with 2 children. In the 1880 Census the same family is listed under the name Lasson Honbyer. Malinda J. is the daughter of John & Melvina Cook Born in Missouri. The little girl called Amy or Amie was my Greatgrand mother. I hope this helps.

All American Hornbecks are indeed related that came from Warnaar of Ulster County NY in 1660. However I've never seen the name of Hornbucker, Hernbecker or Hornbecker as a spelling variation. Therefore they probably are not related. The Belgium spelling was Horebeke.

I believe the Jansen Daughter information is correct. The early generations were established and verified in the account of Gustave Van Hoorebeke. I have a copy of this book written in Dutch that I obtained from Horebeke relatives in Ghent a year and a half ago. All Hornbeck families (including all varied spellings) originated from the small villages E. of Oudenaarde. The name was first mentioned in the 11th century.

Solomon Hornbeck - Cynthia Dove - Illinois 1860-1910

Solomon Hornbeck and Cynthia Dove (Doss) married in Vermilion Co IL in 1860. They were in Ford Co IL in Paxton in 1870 and 1880, and Cynthia Hornbeck filed an affidavit for a civil war pension from there in 1890. I find her again widowed in Cook Co, Calumet, IL in 1910. Other Hornbecks listed with them in censuses were L. Don Hornbeck, born ca 1847; Catherine E., born ca 1853; Lucinda, born ca 1860; Jonathan Dove Hornbeck, born ca 1865, and Eddie Hornbeck, born ca 1872. The oldest two were born in Virginia, and the rest in Illinois. I am researching the Dove side of the family, but would be interested in any information on any of these Hornbecks. Thank you.
Knowledge of PDB, Henry, Dubois, or William Henry Hornbeck of Ulster County

I have been researching my family off and on for many years. All my notes are on paper because I started pre-web and pre-computers. I have just picked it back up after neglecting it for many years and I am astounded how much information is on the web.

I am reasonably sure from family documents that William Henry Hornbeck (born about 1859, died about 1936) is an ancestor. Before him, I am less certain. My old notes indicate the following chain:

P.D.B. Hornbeck, father to
Henry Hornbeck (b. about 1819), father to
Dubois L. Hornbeck (b. about 1839, d. 1909), father to
William Henry Hornbeck (b. 1859, d. 1936)

They all seem to be from Ulster county.

Does anyone have information about these Hornbecks? I have additional information about their spouses and marriages if it would help. I have been looking around the web at various sites without much success but I am rather new at using the web to do research and probably missed resources.
John Hornbeck, Jennie Capps Cedar Cty, MO

I am looking for the John Hornbeck who married Jennie Capps in Lamar Cty, TX 17 Feb 1881. The census for their children indicates that both father and mother were born in MO.

On the 1860 Cedar Cty, MO census Andrew G.Capps and his wife Jona are present owning land. Jennie, their daughter, was not born until 16 Mar 1867. There are several John Hornbeck's living in MO in 1870 that could be the approximate age. One, the child of Wm. Price and Eliza P. Hornbeck. That child, John S. was born about 1864 in Cedar Cty., Jefferson Twp. and seems most likely since his future wife's family was in Cedar Cty. but I cannot find him or his family in later census'. I cannot find Andrew G. Capps in 1870 but he is in TX in 1900 living with Jennie, now remarried. There are possibilities but nothing that could corroborate to my satisfaction.

The John Hornbeck in my search is the gggrandfather in our family. His daughter, Anna Hornbeck b.Jan 1888 TX is part of our family. I don't know if John died after his marriage to Jennie, I find no cemetery records in TX. He could have divorced (?) and remarried but I simply have no further information. The only other clue is that the family of Jennie Capps, grandfather Sampson A. and others owned land in Lincoln Cty. MO in the late 1800's. I don't see any information of the Hornbecks that could be a possible lead in TX.

A family tree exists for Wm. Price Hornbeck but it does not travel beyond him to include his children's marriages. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
