Hi there: I have traced my family back to Adam Horning (on census as
> HERNING, Horning, ERNING), born about 1789 or 1790 somewhere in NY, of
> Alexandria, Jefferson Co. NY from about 1825 to about 1856. I do not
> know when or where he died, or where he was after 1856. His wife was
> Elisabeth, last name unknown. He was in the war of 1812, received 2
> land grants because of service, had 4 girls and 3 boys.
> Known names of Adam's children are: Isaac, ( my gr gr
> grandfather), DOB April 01, 1814, who married Rebecca Worden; Jacob
> (who lived with Isaac after they moved to Wisconsin), DOB Nov, 18 1820
> and one other, possibly Adam. Known girls are: Catherine, DOB Feb 26,
> 1816, who married a GODFREY; Anna, DOB March 01, 1812; Maria, DOB Sept
> 15, 1810.
> Adam Horning had a brother, Henry (Heinrich) Horning, who married
> Magaret Countryman, and had children Anna, DOB July 23, 1813; Abraham,
> DOB March 22, 1822; Heinrich, DOB August 13, 1817, and others. The
> brothership is proved by an affidavit Adam wrote on behalf of Henry's
> widow, in which Adam states that Henry was his brother.
> The childrens birth records, with notation as to who parents were, are
> recorded in the Lutheran St. Paul's Church in the Town Of Danube,
> otherwise known as The Geisenberg Church, formerly at Hallsville, in
> the town of Minden, Montgomery Co., NY. This is as far back as I have
> gotten, and I found the Danube clue from War of 1812 records, on which
> Adam Horning claimed return transportation from Danube, Herkimer Co.
> (which previously was Minden, Mont Co.).
> Isaac ERNING with wife Rebecca, and children, and Adam ERNING age 60
> in the household, are last found in Alexandria on the 1850 fed census.
> Previous census records had Adam's name HERNING Horning. I could not
> read the 1860 microfilm of Alexandria, it was too faint. By the 1860
> census, Isaac family are in Wisconsin.
> In Wisconsin, the family name was spelled HERNING, HURNING, and on a
> couple census records, ERNNING and ERNING. I am positive I have the
> correct family, because of the many children. The Isaac ERNING in NY
> in 1850 had the same kids as Isaac HERNING in 1860 in WI. Isaac's
> child William B. HERNING was my gr-grandfather. I have some pictures.
> Is this the same bunch you are researching? Would love to correspond
