I am descended from the Hon John Horsford's brother Valentine Horne Horsford 1770-1804. I don't know much more about your branch - but there is a string of messages regarding the Wst Indies Horsfords on Roots web, so you may pick up more there. It seems some of the Horsfords 'distinguished' themselves in the military, my branch entered the Church and the others were plantation owners until the 1840's. The slave records now available make sombre reading

Are you related to the Horsfords?
My great grandmother is the Annie Ellen Foulquier Richardson who married Wesley Horsford in 1866 - I understood the marriage to be in Trinidad and not Antigua.Would like details if you have them.
Their daughter, Eliza Sophia Dasent Horsford married Michael Dykers Hill 13 Feb 1895 in Demarara, British Guiana. They had two children.
After Wesley's death 28 June 1870 aged 26, AEFR married the Rev John Richard Finlay Tull, Methodist Minister.
Hi!
My GGGGrandparents where John Horsford and Mary Measures also. My line is through Ann Horsford who married John Barnett or Barnard. I show Benjamin as being born on 26 March 1716 Swineshead. Baptised 19 May 1716. Died 14 May 1770. This is from the Parish Register. My information comes from my Cousin who is a Geneologist and works in the Geneology Library of the LDS in Salt Lake City. She is a Morman.
I think this makes you a cousin about three times removed. I was in touch a few years ago with the Horsfords of Upper Dean. They are the Direct descendents of Benjamin. Are you familiar with them?
My e-mail address is hbarnett@tampabay.rr.com. I have a considerable amount of info on the Horsfords. It might be better to communicate directily with me.
I now live in Florida.
Great to hear from you
Hugh

Does anyone have information of Spencer Horsford (the spelling of his name in the 1850 census: Horseford) who lived in Tennessee in the 1840s. He was married to Isabell Beaty and one of his children was my gggrandmother Fanny Horsford (spellings of name include: Horseford, Hosford). I believe Isabell died before 1850 and he married a Lucinda about 1850, she was 37 and he was 28. I can't find anything on him or his family after this time or before this time. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Barbara Higdon, who is a great family researcher, found it in a newspaper article, I tried to read my copy but have not been able to get you a clear copy of the text (and to save my soul I don't remember what paper it was. I am attaching my copy, maybe you can make it out). However, she and many others are researching the Beaty, Nutt lines. Try to find some of her postings on the message board and she will get back to you!

Here is a little more dry info on Spencer-much of it was handed down in the Hosford family but It's the most info I've got on where Spencer came from. By the way, it is the assumption that Mary's mother was Isabell Beaty. The idea of Isabell dying in childbirth has been widely supposed, but no one knows for sure.

BIOGRAPHY: Author: Harry Hosford Date: 25 Jun 2003 3:31 PM GMT
Surnames: Hosford, Horsford
Classification: Query
In Reply to: Fanny Hosford (Nutt) again by: Brenda
Post Reply | Mark Unread | Report Abuse Print Message
Ref [a] - Descendants of James Horsford of Rockingham Co, NC, Dec 1982 by Eugene Horsford
[b] - 1850 Census: Lewis Co, TN
[c] - 1860 Census: Stewart Co, TN
[d] - IGI Tennessee

Spencer was born about 1822 in Tennessee [b,c]. It is presumed that he was the youngest son of Richard Horsford but this is is uncertain. He married Isabella Boyd Beatey in Williamson Co, TN 22 Feb 1842 [a, d]. Spencer married second Lucinda ??? Floyd in Lewis Co, TN 20 Jul 1849 [d]. 1850 Census of Lewis Co, TN Spencer and Lucinda are shown living with Spencer's two daughters by his first marriage: Fanny and Mary C, and with Lucinda's four sons by her previous marriage: James T. born abt 1839; William B, born abt 1842; Allen G. born abt 1843 and Reuben G. born abt 1845 [b]. In the 1880 Census of Stewart Co, TN Spencer is shown married to Ellen ???, born abt 1853 TN [c].
Brenda: You know much more than I. In the 1870 census, Spencer is shown age 51 with wife Sarah, 38. We were not sure whether Isabell or Lucinda was the mother of Mary, but thought Isabell, but I did not know the story of the move to Texas, and I was glad to have that story. Can you tell me the Source? I would like to document it. From something I found, I wondered if Isabell died in childbirth with Mary, but I could not confirm it. I assume your Fanny is Frances. And I have a James. Are there other siblings? Thank you, Deby Hill

This is all I have delved about Mary Horsford (Is it correct?). She is the younger sister of MY gggrandmother Fanny Horsford (who married Jessie Franklin Nutt in Tennessee). I would love to find out what happened to Spencer and Isabel. I can send you a little more. But, I know so little about what happened to Spencer OR Fanny. Later! Brenda

BIOGRAPHY: Mary C. Horseford is the youngest child of Isabella Boyd Beatty and Spencer Horseford. She was born in July 1849 and I have wondered if Isabella died in childbirth since Spencer married Lucinda Floyd on July 20, 1849. Mary was married to Alfred Hime on June 28, 1867 in Lewis County, TN by M. A. Nutt, MG. The story that I have heard is that Mary and Alfred moved to Texas and Mary died in childbirth but the child lived. Alfred returned to Tennessee on horseback with his son.

BIOGRAPHY: re: Barbara Higdon, geneologist and ancester

BIOGRAPHY: Mary and Alfred were married by Maben Nutt, MG (Minister of the Gospel). (or just enter Guy Steel and look at what comes up) I can not spot a Guy Horsford in my printout.

Looking for a Wesley Horsford whom I believe was working for a Trinidadian newspaper at the time of his marriage to Annie Ellen Foulquier Richardson (born island of St. Martin). They had one daughter, Eliza Daisent.
Anyone with knowledge of Wesley's marriage please get in touch. As I have never been able to find his name anywhere I just wonder if his first name was NOT Wesley but something else.

Horsford Family Tree

I just learned my greatgrandmother was Mary "Polly" Horsford married to Elisha Allen of Rockingham,NC. I had info her name was POLLY,but didn't know her maiden name and luckily some one found the info and gave it to me. Our family has never known anything about our ancestors and have tried very hard to find the info. My daddy,Elisha, born 1889 in Rockingham Co,died 1946. Mom died 1971. She said from day daddy died to day she died, she didn't know anything about daddy's family, cause he didn't talk about them. If Mary is in your family tree, would you know when and where she was born and when and where she passed away? I will appreciate any info you can pass along.

I don't recognize the names you have but I have an Isabella (Bella) Horsford who married Henry De Souza. I've heard that Isabella also went by the name de Cambra although Horsford was on her birth certificate. The de Cambra name had something to do with a orphanage her father was in or something like that. I still have to get the story straight. Isabella and Henry had 4 children: Carl, Elaine, Robert and Anthony. Any connections?

Horsford Family Tree?

I am now 65 and last remaining local Holyhead, Anglesey, North Wales member of family, being eldest by parents Frank Vincent Horsford and Hilda Barbara Betty Stubbs of Chester married 1936.

Unfortunately, I know nothing of my late father's parents Frank Horsford and Melitta Owen who apparently passed away when he was only three - giving birth to a brother Bernard (now deceased) and were subsequently brought up here in Holyhead by various Aunts.

I was even more fascinated to few years ago learn that there was a village named 'Horsford in Norfolk' just a few miles away from where I was actually born; so I would truly love to hear from anyone who might be able to provide some links or information my prior ancestry/heritage etc.?

Please help as I am not only complete Windows/Internet novice; but also fighting throat cancer and not able to master my own searches!

Many Thanks,
Jenny X.
