Christina, I am researching this family too. (By the way, the town Adolph came from is spelled Apetlon and it is in Burgenland, Austria now.) I believe that Adolph Horwath had an older brother named Henry, who died in St. Paul on 10 November 1971. I have identified some of their cousins, including John and Andrew Haller, and Gregor Horwath. I am trying to connect these people, hopefully to our family's ancestor, John Horwath, (1860-1914). John was married to Elizabeth Kleinschmidt in Stearns County, MN in 1891. They moved to St. Paul about 1910. John was killed by a train in 1914. I am trying to find anyone related to him and would be really happy to share research.

I would love to talk, I do have a lot of information on the Kleinschmidts. How do I give you my phone number or private email address without posting it on-line?

Hi Tracy,

Mind if I jump in here? I have a Frederick and Anna Kleinschmidt that are from the Sauk Center area. Frederick's dates are 1843-1904. He married twice, both women were named Anna. The first one I don't have her maiden name, the second one's maiden name was Anna Eva Fritzlar. Her first husband was Herman Hartung. She married Frederick Kleinschmidt in 1883 in Lake George, Stearns County. Her birth and death dates are 1854-1936.

Cindy Nelson

John Horwath and Elizabeth Kleinschmidt

I am looking for any information that might help me find out more about John Horwath. He immigrated to the U.S probably between 1884 and 1890. His birthday might have been 23 April, 1860. He was said to have been born in Hungary, but this might be current-day Austria. He was living in Stearns County MN from at least 1891-1905. By 1910 he was living in St. Paul, Minnesota. He married Elizabeth Kleinschmidt in Meire Grove, Stearns County, MN in 1891. Elizabeth was the daughter of Frederick KIleinschmidt and his first wife, Anna. John Horwath may have been related to a Gregor or Gregorius Horwath and to an Andrew Haller. John was a railway employee and was killed in January 1914 when he was hit by a train while working a late shift. His children were Fred, Elizabeth Mabel, Rose, Anne, John, Caroline and Joseph. He also apparently had a son named Adolph who lived in North Dakota.

Thanks
Cindy Nelson

Just read your message regarding the name Horwath, my grandmother was Anne B Horwath married to John Logue Sr in St Paul, my father is John also (son of Anne & John Sr). Anne's mother (my great grandmother) was Elisabeth Kleinschmidt and I had noted that her father was killed by a train. I never know them but I was told that Anne had a brother named Fred and a brother named Joseph, sisters Rose (married to a Tom Ivy - St Paul), and Mable (married to George Lunzer - St Paul). Please reply and let's share more family information. thanks

Cindy, try this again - I sent two other messages but forgot to say that my great grandmother was married to John Horwath, the one you mentioned killed by a train....Anyway, my great grandmother was Elisabeth/Elizabeth Kleinschmidt married to John Horwath, lived in Sauk Center MN (Stearns County). He was killed by train as told to me by my grandmother Anne. Elizabeth and John Horwath had 5 children: Rose, Mabel, Anne, Fred and Joseph. My grandmother Anne married John Logue Sr.and they met at the tennis courts at Como Park, St Paul, MN .

Hi. Did these gg-granparents have a son also? I have an Adolph Horwath born on Feb. 17, 1893 in Appltlone, Austria. He came to New York from Bremen on the Rhine on January 7, 1906 or 1907. He married Gustina Meide and in 1925 lived at 774 Seminary Avenue in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was 32 on his Declaration of Intention, a car repairer, white with a fair complexion, 5 feet 7 inches tall and 155 pounds. His hair was light brown and his eyes were gray. Is it possible that this is a son of Stephen and Catharine Horwath? I have been unable to find family relating to them in current times. Thanks.
