We are desendants of S S Hosea. William Henry Hosea is our connection. Do you happen to know where we came from prior to Delaware? Stories told by great aunts talks about Scotland. Nothing more specific. I have traced the family tree back to John Hosea DOB 1725. It seems he settled in Delaware.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have since found Stephen Hosey's (Hosea's) pension file. He served in the Navy in the Civil War for the Union. His fourth wife Nancy Della Ann Bonee had to prove that the other three wives were dead in order to get the pension. Part of the proof were letters from my great-grandfather, William Hosey, stating that his mother died a few days after he was born and that he was raised by the Henshaw family. Please email me at jcport@aol.com
Jan Porterfield

I have sent my book down with my sister to show my mother (who is a Hosey), but will get it back when my sister comes back from her visit. What I have so far is listed on the Wyrick family tree on Ancestry.com. It is a public tree, so maybe if you pull it up you can see what I have so far.

I do know the name of one of their daughters--Catherine America Gray (I think I saw she went by her middle name,) who is my great-great-great grandmother, was born in 1831 and died in 1863 in Washington Co. She married William Harrison Van Meter 21 October 1849. I am not sure, but I think she may have died in or soon after childbirth, as their youngest child was born in 1863.

I can't find anything past Louisa Hosea. If you have anything of the such that would be great.

I am related to "Two THOMAS KAMALII'S" in my family!
One, born in 1871 in Maui, who was my great-grandfather's brother. [1/2 brother, I believe, because he was born before wedlock?] and the other would have been his nephew, who was born in 1906 in Ka'u, on the big island, where "TOM" had moved and married "NUI KEANU" until he died in a swimming
accident in 1914. The "TOM KAMALII" who was your ancestor
was probably from an Uncle, who still lived in Maui in the mid
1800's. He also helped to raise my great-great grandfather
until he returned back to Ka'u. I do not know if he had any children, but if he did? You can bet that there was a "THOMAS KAMALII" among them! (The same Names keep
repeating themselves in every generation!) The Parents of my
"TOM" #1 were: KAPAHUKUI & HANALEI KAMALII." I am afraid that I do not know the parents of the "TOM" who lived still in Maui? If you have any information to share, about him.
Please send me an e-mail. Much of the "KAMALII" family history is unknown, because of the "hanae-ing." [My own brother, who was the "first born male" was given to my grandmother at only two weeks of age!] Any help that you could give me, could be beneficial to my research? Aloha!
I just noticed these messages about Stephen Hosey\Hosea and the mention of the name FERRELL. I just thought I would put in my two cents worth. My Great, Great Grandmother was Nancy Hosey b. 6-15-1812, daughter of Stephen Hosey\Hosea. She married William Long and one of her sons was named Benjamin Ferrell Long b. 1852. Nancy had among her siblings a sister named Scyta Hosey\Hosea b. 1823. She was married to Calvin Humphries\Humphreys and when she died and when Nancy's husband died in 1860 then sometime later, I don't know the date, she married Calvin Humphreys. I have a photo of her tombstone that my sister and I found by accident, in the middle of a woods among the hills in Obion Co., Tn. by a bluff. This tombstone states her name as Nancy Humphers (note spelling) and says "Wife of Calvin Humphers". This cemetery, I was told was known as the LONG Cemetery. I guess she named one of her sons from the FERRELL connection. Joyce

I have not found them after that. I have received an e-mail from a lady saying she has information that they also had a son. I do not have any of Seymour's family's names.
Emily Alice Smith lived in Lawrence Co in the 1850-1860. Not sure where they were living when she married. They were living in Lawrence Co, or Washington Co. in the 1880 census. Marie

Your father's youngest sister, Wilma, is still living in Tuscaloosa. I talked to her last night and she was so excited to hear that you were looking for Hosea relatives and knew about you and your brother. She wants you to contact her.
Curtis and Alma had no children together. He did have children through another relationship..I believe sons.

Re: Remillies Hosea and Ruth Lucas

Hello Shelley: I believe you may be looking for Romulus S. Hosea who was born November 12, 1844 in New York and died October 31, 1911, probably in Indiana. Your information that he married Ruth Lucas may be correct, but I have his wife's name as Sarah Jane Lucas, whom he married Dec. 25, 1866 in Washington County, Indiana. Romallis (sic) S. Hosea is listed in the 1860 Clark County, Oregon Township, Indiana census, age 49, birthplace NY with the following: Minerva Hosea, age 46, born in NY is listed in his household; also children Miles (24), Mack (19), Zachariah (11), Martha (9) and Luman (male, 7). To confuse matters I also have in my notes that the children of Romulus Hosea and Sarah Jane Lucas were: (1) Emma (1869), (2)CHARLES O. (1872), (3)Arty Mae (1874-1955) m. Jasper Calloway in Indiana, (4)Margaret Violana (1876) m. Frank Walraven, (5) Luvia Belle (1881) and (6)Minnie Myrtle (1883). I have as Romulus' father Jonathan Hosea born 09 December 1815, possibly in New York and died 25 May, 1882. Jonathan married Eliza Ann Gray 07 March, 1834 in Scott County, IN, the d/o Jeduthan Gray and Ruth Loomis. Eliza Ann Gray was born 19 July, 1818 in New York. Perhaps you can sort out which is Romulus' correct family! As you had no information to begin with, you now have more than you probably want! You may want to look for more Hoseas from this line in Chenango County, New York. Another researcher for this line is Sandra Goodwin (thegoodwin@coinet.com) Feel free to contact me. Mary Hosea Rimlinger

In my HOSEA database I have a Seymour HOSEA, son of Nathaniel HOSEA and Emeline PIXLEY. born 19 May 1849 - died 11 Dec 1892 in Bartles, Washington Co., IN, buried New Liberty Cem., Franklin Twp, Washington Co., IN. He was married to Marcella SMITH. They had a son, Nelson Smith HOSEA b. 29 July 1880 - died 29 Jan 1963. Nelson's wife was Sarah Jane CURTIS; they a daughter Ruth and a son, Thomas Seymour HOSEA, born 1920 - died 1932 & buried Olive Brance Cemetery, Polk Twp, Wash.Co., IN. Seymour and Marcella HOSEA may have had more children; I know only of the one son. Nathaniel HOSEA (b/btwn 1820-1830 in Indiana) and Emeline PIXLEY were married 17 Oct. 1847 in Washington Co., IN. Aside from their son Seymour, their other children (as I know) were Nelson (1850), Pauline (1854), Emeline (1857) Wilburn (1857?), and Violana (1866). I have a note that Seymour may have been married first to Elizabeth (Unknown). Also I noted there may be a connection between Nathaniel HOSEA and a Jonathan HOSEA who was born 1815 New York (Chenango County?) - d. 1882 Wash.Co.,IN) He married Eliza Ann GRAY in Scott Co., IN in 1834. They had three children (known to me): Margaret, Violana (b. 1840) and Romulus (b.1844 in NY) Violana is an unusual name; it might be a clue to follow. And Romulus (also seen Romillis, etc.) might be interesting to follow. You are welcome to contact me @ MARYLHR@aol.com.

Hosey\Hosea - Long - Ferrell

On the earlier part of this BB several were asking about the name Ferrell in connection with the Hosey\Hosea name. I answered as a reply but it was so far back on the BB I thought I should post it as a query instead of a reply. Below is what I said:

Joyce

Hi Mary, I am researching the Hosea line for my sister-in-law. Her gggrandmother is Artie Mae Hosea, who married Jasper Newton Callaway. Romulus and Sarah Jane Lucas were her parents, and I believe the other Romulus that married Minerva A. was her great uncle, brother to Jonathan Hosea. My sister-in-law's grandmother,Cleopal Callaway Womacks, tells her that Artie Mae was Indian. Any information or thoughts on this? Thanks for your time. Catherine Cornett

She married Arthur Marion Roark around 1907.
In the June 14, 1900 census, I found a Susie Hosea (head of house) with the following children:
female - L????, 1876
male - Willie, Sept 1877
male - A???, Nov 1875
female - Ella, 1882
male - John, Dec 1885
female - Cora, Dec 1887
female - Dora, June 1889 (my grandmother)
female - Pearl, 1891

The census indicates Susie was born in Mississippi, her father and mother in Alabama.
All the above children were born in Texas, father in Georgia.

I believe the father's name was Franklin Henry Hosea, but not sure.

I think you've worked on this family line, but I'm seeing some differences. Please reply and let's compare.
Thanks, Regina

I have researching this family line for lots of years....I have not been able to connect to a living relative until today, I hope.!
My line is Smith Thomas Hosea who married Mary L Garrard...This is all speculation but they were in Obion Co. TN. in 1870 then in 1880 they were in Trinidad, Las Animas, CO. In 1900 Mary was without her husband.
They had quite a few children:
Rachel A Hosea born 1866 TN.
James A Hosea born 1868 TN
Mary Hosea born 1870 TN
Rebecca Hosea born 1872 TN
Mary Eliza Hosea born Jan. 1873 TN married George B Herring on 30 May 1897 in Trinidad, Las Animas, CO.
John Hosea born 1874 CO.
Minnie Hosea born CO.
William H. Hosea born Oct. 1879 CO. married Anna Callahan on Nov. 9, 1901 and then married Lillian G William died Nov. 1959
JUNE HOSEA BORN JUNE 1883 TRINIDAD, CO. HAD DAUGHTER RUTH BORN DENVER, CO.
Jessie "JESS" Hosea born 26 Nov. 1886 in CO. and died Jan. 1969 in Denver, CO.
My question is who is Mary L. Garrard???? She is listed with my Blackshear family in 1850 & 1870 census in Tennessee.....She has to be a grandchild they raised but whose????? Maybe by now you have learned more about the Hosea family and can fill in my blanks....I have pictures some where of June & Jesse I beleive....It's been so long since I worked on this that my memory is vague....If you reply I will begin hunting them.....
Glenda Blackshear Wheeler
