Re: Emily Hosey?

She is off the Archibald Hosey line. Arch was the son of Abner Hosey and Riller Dillon. My brother is married to a grandaughter of Emily. My grandfather and Emily could never find a connection between themselves. After researching the old records it became apparent. I did see a old court record in 1868 were a brother sued Arch and won. I think it was over a fence but not sure. About this time is when I think they picked up and moved to Webster but never did research this totally. This was kind of a tradition as John P. Hosey sued his brother Abner back in the late 1820s or early 1830s.

My family is also from the Abner line. I am off two of his sons Silas and Henry. Silas son Albert married his first cousin Martha who was the daughter of Henry.

R Hosey
hoseyclan@aol.com

I should add that she had 2 or three sisters I remember my mom and aunts talking about... Aunt Icie, Aunt ruby, Aunt Mini but that was surely a nick name. Maybe even an aunt Ada but that could have been my Grandfathers sister, not sure.

Re: Hosey with indian blood

It's been a long time since you posted a notice on the Hosey family message board in which you offered to send information about Indian ancestry in the Hosey family. And your email address is no longer valid. My great-grandmother was Ann Hosey McWilliams, daughter of Isaac Hosey and Sarah Cox of Jasper Co., MS. There has been a persistent tale in my family that my grandmother had some Native American ancestry. Some said it came from the Hoseys, some said that it came through Sarah Cox Hosey; others have said it came from the McWilliams side of the family.I've looked in vain for any proof of Indian ancestry. I'd like to confirm or refute the Indian tale, at least as far as Hoseys are concerned. I'd be grateful for your help. Gerald Buchanan

Hi Carolyn
I have a copy of book from my husbands grandmother called "Hugh & Mary Hosey and their descendants" by Juanita Minter & Valma Steward. I beleive it was researched and written in the 1970.
Listed under Charles Jones & Elizabeth Hosey are listed 11 children,1 of those is James Jones who married Bertha Berry and their 6 children of which 1 is Charles. There are dates and more names etc. If you are interested maybe we can help each other. My husband is descended from your James' older brother Henry Charles.
I hope to hear from you soon
Linda

It is the Y-DNA25--Male marker paternal test and the cost is $169.
Re: Sarah E. "Sallie" Hosey

My great grandfather was Rev. Isaac Anderson who married Sarah Hosey Moss. But
Sarah was his first wife and, according to my information, after Sarah died Isaac
married Amanda Flanagan Laird, also a widow with one son. The family Bible said
that Isaac and Sarah had three children, but did not list them. I knew the name of
only one, Almedia, who married Sidney Johnston. Isaac and Amanda had several
children, one of whom was my grandfather Benjamin Jesse. I have wondered if my
grandfather was named for Benjamin Moss.

Recently, in a box of my grandparents' papers, I found an original deed signed by
Isaac and Sarah on December 17, 1853, selling 78 acres of land in Jasper County to
David Miley for $300. The deed was recorded February 10, 1854 by James
Chapman, clerk of the probate court. I haven't checked to see if the county record
of this still exists; I know lots of records have burned at various times.

Other information about Isaac and his wives and children came from my mother's
cousin whose father was also named Isaac Anderson, my grandfather's youngest
brother.

There are several Isaac Andersons, and one of them lists a marriage to Teresia
Powell, but if my information is correct, it is a different Isaac than the one who
married Sarah Hosey. I am eager to share information.

Re: Sarah E. "Sallie" Hosey

Abner Hosey and Kizzy Temple (NC to MS) were my ancestors. Their only son, William Gancor/Granger Hosey, m. Jane "Jennie" Collins; one of William's 14 children, the second one, was Isaac Hosey who married Sarah Cox, who had apparently been previously married to an M. Moore. Sarah Cox/\'s father was possibly Tobias R. Cox, who lived in Jasper Co., MS, at the same time as Sarah, and if so she had brothers in Jasper Co. also.

Abner and Kizzy's two daughters were Anna and Sarah. Anna married Jesse Cooper; this family moved to Union Pr., LA, where both Anna and Jesse are buried. Sarah Elizabeth "Sallie" Hosey married first Benjamin Moss for whom Moss, MS, is named. One of Benjamin's sons changed the spelling of his name to Morse and one of his descendants was my best buddy in high school. Other descendants kept the Moss spelling. Benjamin and Sarah had nine children. After Benjamin's death in 1837, Sarah married (the Rev.?)Isaac Anderson, whose first wife was Teresia Powell. Isaac and Sarah had two children: Almedia and Alexander. According to one of my sources, Sarah died in Greene Co., MS, in 1871. Some other sources tell a different story, but I have additional information about these and other Hosey decendents which I'll be happy to share.

I descend from Isaac Hosey and Sarah Cox through their daughter Ann, who married Enoch Wiley McWilliams of Simpson Co., MS. Enoch and Ann's daughter, Lula, is my grandmother, one of three McWilliams sisters who married three Buchanan brothers (but that's another story in itself).

Has anyone done research on the following line and who would like to share:
The wife of Jesse Cooper was Anna Hosey (born April 8, 1798, North Carolina; and died December 11, 1857 Farmersville, Union Parish, Louisiana), was the daughter of Abner Hosey (born February 17, 1776, Cumberland County, North Carolina; married, 1794, North Carolina; and died 1843, North Carolina) and Katherine “Kizzy” Temple (born April 6, 1778; died 1845, Jasper County, Mississippi; and buried Granny's Field Cemetery, Jasper County, Mississippi). Abner's parents were Isaac and Mary Hosey. Anna Hosey had one sister, Sarah Elizabeth “Sallie” Hosey, who first married Benjamin Moss and then married Isaac Anderson. This family remained in and around Jasper/Jones Counties in Mississippi

Curling-Hosey Bible

This is a long shot. Last night I googled Arthur Curling and found the following RootsWeb Page http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/th/read/HOSEY/1999-06/09303...
It's from the HOSEY archive and it's about the Curling-Hosey Bible - which I'd never heard of. However, the Arthur Henry Curling is definitely an ancestor of mine. I have a family document which I've christened the Mildenhall document. It was originally drawn up in 1848, its primary purpose to list all the subscribers to a leaving gift for my great great grandfather Edward Curling. He had been the Land Agent for 16 years to Sir Henry Edward Bunbury on his Mildenhall estate in Suffolk. At the back one of his descendants started a list of the family birthdays from Edward himself to the early 20th century. Arthur Henry Curling was Edward's second son, born 21st February 1841 at Mildenhall. His elder brother was my great grandfather.
The post about the Curling-Hosey Bible was sent in June 1999 by Patti Silvestri and includes an e-mail address. However, my message to her was returned, "e-mail address does not exist". Can anyone help me to get in touch with her or with Laurel-Jones Co., MS Library, Genealogy Dept. which the message says is where the Bible was in 1999?

I am looking for information of Hugh Hosey (1810-1865), a convict to NSW on the Manilius 1827. He married Mary Dennehy (1819-1886), an Irish convict to NSW on the Diamond 1838. Mary had a sister, Honora.
Hugh and Mary' marriage cert spells the name Hossie.
They had 3 children: Elizabeth, Sarah and Margaret (Maggie.
Elizabeth (Betsy)(b.9 May 1850, d.3 Sept 1933) married Charles John Jones (d.22 May 1914). They were both teachers in the Armidale region. They had 11 children.
There is a granddaughter called Edie Cook, married to Stan Cook. (BUT I am trying to follow the JONES line).
Sarah (9Aug 1846) married George Jones (d.14 Jun 1920). They had 13 children. Including Hugh,James, Charles John. Charles John had a son Charles Garnet JONES.

I am looking for the connection to James David JONES, father of Lionel Charles (Charlie) JONES.
I am hoping, the above James is it, & need verification.

Thanks
Carolyn
Re: ELIZABETH HOSEY & CHARLES JOHN JONES (ARMIDALE, NSW, AUSTRALIA)

Elizabeth Hosey and Charles Jones are my ancestors too (apparently).
I was given some information several years ago, and was told that Hugh Hosey, Mary Dennehy, and their daughter Elizabeth (married to Charles) were my ancestors.

The info I have was typed (no photocopies). and very poorly sourced/referenced. Hence I have no idea how to get from one Charles to the other.

I have no link between them and my grandpa - Lionel Charles Jones (known as Charlie) (d.Jan1999, in his 80's), son of James David Jones & Janet Bertha Berry.
Charlie was married to Bernice Cave approx 1939 - and lived in Woolgoolga at that time - he was a timber cutter and banana plantaion worker, and went to school at Nana Glen.

Thats all i have. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Carolyn
