John H. Hoskins, 85 year old retired Boone County farmer, died this
morning at his home in Advance. He had been ill the past three days.
Born in Belle County, KY, he was a son of George and Rhoda (Miracle)
Hoskins. He was the eldest and the last surviving member of a family of ten
children. He was married December 9, 1896, to Sarah Ellen Hoskins, who died
in September 1963. Mr. Hoskins farmed in Boone County 35 years and had lived
in the Advance area the past 29 years.
Mr. Hoskins was a member of the Jamestown Pentecostal Church which his
son, the Rev. Oscar Hoskins of Advance serves as minister.
Survivors are five sons, Rev. Oscar Hoskins, Advance, Oliver and Leonard
Hoskins, Jamestown, George Hoskins of Valparaiso and Eston Hoskins of East
Gary; two daughters: Mrs. Elva Hargue of Gary and Mrs. Byrtly Thompson of
Advance. 34 grandchildren and 66 great-grandchildren.
Funeral sevices will be held at 2 pm Monday at the Jamestown Pentecostal
Church. Burial will be in the Jamestown IOOF Cemetery. Friends may call
after 6 pm today at the Walker Funeral Home in Jamestown. He was buried in
