First, this George is not from my line. According to the State of CA, George died 05/28/1921. I think the state file number is: 18031 however, the copy I am looking at is a really poor scan so the 8 may be a 6. Happy hunting!

Lorraine,
I have pretty much the same information that you have concerning all these Knights, except:
1) I've never heard that Polly Knight's first name was 'Mary', and I'd be interested in knowing the source of this name.
2) I don't have Richard Tuel's middle initial, but know that his parents were William Tuel and Margaret Knight. I don't have any information on Margaret's parents and have never heard of Ezekiel Knight, but then this is getting way off track from my relations unless Ezekiel turns out to be part of the same Knight family as Jane Knight (wife of Azariah Hoskinson).

I also have an Emma Knight who possibly married Jackson B. Sigler, who was brother to Martin Van Buren Sigler. I need to verify this someday by looking at FHL microfilm 0959189 - 0959190 where she is supposedly listed as 'Ruama Knight'.

Another very distant relation loose end is Providence Sarah Knight b. 1826, married to Roswell Ivory Hubbard, who had son Henry J. Hubbard b. 1852 d. 1922. Henry married Ella Elizabeth Hoskinson, daughter of Azariah Hoskinson III and Rebecca McKenzie.

I would also DEFINTELY like to learn Jane Knight's ancestry and how she might be related to these other Knights, as she is my g-g-g-grandmother.

-- Greg Farmer / Arlene Sigler / Ira Sigler / John Whetzel Sigler / Rachel Hoskinson / Jane Knight

Who submitted Ancestry World Tree entry for Stuart Hoskinson?

I would like to contact the person who submitted the Ancestry World Tree entry for Stuart Hoskinson (born July 31, 1843), his first wife Ann Eliza Davis (1847-1920), and their children Grant Hoskinson Hurst, Mary Jessie Hoskinson, and Frank Hardy Larimer, and Ann's second husband Joseph J. Derosier. Stuart F. Hoskinson was my greatgrandmother's first cousin and I have been researching my Hoskinson family for a long time. I would very much like to exchange information with the person who compiled the Stuart Hoskinson family tree. My e-mail is: orbie626@hotmail.com.

Dear Julie, Thank you for your reply. Please do keep me posted if you do find any further info. The source of George Hoskinson (father of John Hoskinson, born 1788, and the other 7 children) coming from Wales was a brief mention in the book "History of Indiana County, Pennsylvania". I don't know where they got that information or how accurate it was.

He is as far back as I have been able to trace but my dad says he remembers his grandparents talking about scotland and england alot (no mention of wales....). I have just begun searching and updating this book so if I find any relevant information I will pass it on to you.

Dear Julie, Thank you for your reply. I was especially curious to know which George Washington Hoskinson the book was about because one of my distant cousins was George W. Hoskinson, (son of Riley M. and Martha (Fisher) Hoskinson) born circa 1860 in Illinois; died May 28, 1921 in Contra Costa county, CA. I have one more question. Do you know if your ancestor George Washington Hoskinson is any relation to George Hoskinson, a native of Wales? This George Hoskinson had 8 children: Elisha Hoskinson (born Jan. 30, 1784); Thomas Hoskinson (born March 19, 1786); John Hoskinson (born Nov. 11, 1788 in Monogalia County, West Virginia; died March 5, 1843 in Monongalia County, WV); Polly Hoskinson (born Aug. 5, 1792); Rebecca Hoskinson (born Nov. 28, 1794); Lucy Hoskinson (born May 28, 1800); and Nancy Hoskinson (born June 22, 1806). John Hoskinson was my great-great-great-grandfather.

Dear Linda,
Is your Charles L. Hoskinson any relation to Elisha Hoskinson, born 1784 in possibly Monongalia County, West Virginia? My ancestor was Elisha's brother John Hoskinson, born Nov. 11, 1788 in Monongalia County, WV; died March 5, 1843 in Monongalia County, West Virginia. John Hoskinson was the father of Civil War veterans Riley M. Hoskinson (1819-1905); William B. Hoskinson (1827-1908); and John N. Hoskinson (1831-1905). I have been searching for Hoskinson family information for years now and have been in contact with a Hoskinson relative in Tawas City,Michigan who mentioned you once. I'd really like to exchange information with you regarding our Hoskinson ancestors.

Greg, I have been trying to connect Jane Knight and Aquilla Knight as possible relatives too. She being born 1790 and he approx 1799. In the 1860 census he is living with my 4th great grandfather ( Perry Knight ) in Des Moines , Lee, Iowa. Jane Knight & Azraih Hoskinson are my 5th great grandparents. (thier grt grandson, James Buchanan Conner married Aquilla Knight's grt granddaughter, Matilda Hupp)

I also have a Mary "Polly" KNIGHT who married Martin Van Buren Sigler (he is the son of Rachel Hoskinson & John Sigler) . She was born 30 Oct 1840 in Monroe , Oh. - died 27 Sept 1924 Creston, Union , Iowa but she had lived in the Carrollton area until 1922.

Ezekiel Knight's , born abt 1794 VA. - died 14 Jan 1875 Carroll Ia , grandson (Richard S.Tuel) married Effie Maud Conner who is the grt granddaughter of John Sigler & Rachel Hoskinson.

I think these are my loose end Knight's (as well as Nancy) that connect with Hoskinson's. Someday we will find the answer lol

Happy Hunting ,
Lorraine

PS - do you have kids for Nancy & Archibald Hoskinson ? I am a descendant of Archibald's brother Azariah, and he was married to Jane Knight. it might be a reasonable presumption that Nancy and Jane could have been sisters, but I have no information about their family.
-- Greg Farmer

Lorraine,
In answer to your question, I have the following information about Archibald Hoskinson, his wife Nancy, and some of their descendants of their only child Elson:
In the 1810 census Washington County, Ohio, Grandview Township is: Archibald Hoskinson: 1 male 16-26, 1 female 16-26. Also in the same 1810 census are his brothers, Isaiah Hoskinson and family and Azariah Hoskinson II, wife Jane (Knight) and family. Elson Hoskinson, born about 1811, is mentioned in a deed in Monongalia County Virginia as the only heir of Archibald Hoskinson, deceased (Archibald had died young, within a few years of son Elson's birth). In 1840, Elson and family plus his mother, Nancy, were living in Tyler County, Virginia (West Virginia). In the 1850 census of Monroe County, Ohio, Ohio Township, Nancy Hoskins, age 53, born in Virginia, is living with Elson and family. Elson and family had moved back to Ohio between 1842- 1844 as Elson's son, Archibald, was born in Ohio. Elson was in the 1870 and 1880 census of Monroe County, Ohio.

-- Greg Farmer

Ann was the granddaughter of Civil War veteran John Nelson Hoskinson. She was my second cousin, twice removed. Ann (Hoskinson) Kunkle was born Nov. 26, 1913 in West Wheatfield Township, Indiana County, PA and died Nov. 2, 2007 in Colorado Springs, CO. Her ashes were scattered in West Wheatfield Township, Indiana County, Pa. where she was born. Ann Hoskinson married Paul Thomas Kunkle on June 28, 1941 in the First Presbyterian Church in Homer City, PA. Paul T. Kunkle was the son of Lowry C. Kunkle and Lydia (Johnston) Kunkle. He was born Sept. 13, 1911 in Indiana County, Pa. and died July 18, 2004 in Colorado Springs, CO. Ann was deeply interested in the Hoskinson family history and she shared her memories with me. She had a sharp mind and an incredible memory. Ann was beloved by every person whose life she touched. She will never be forgotten by her many friends and relatives. Ann was my 2nd cousin, twice removed.
The info Archibald Hoskinson in 1880 census is incorrect.
He was not born in Baden. Census mistake.
He was the son of ELSON HOSKINSON AND CHARITY BOOTH. In 1850 census Ohio twp. Monroe co. Ohio.
ELSON was the son of ARCHIBALD HOSKINSON AND NANCY KNIGHT (Only child) Archibald died young & Elson was their only child.
Archibald & Azariah Hoskinson were brothers.
This is my great-great-grandparents....(Elson & Charity Booth Hoskinson). Hope this clears up the confusion.
Karen

I think we are working the same lines, as I am a descendant of Elson Hoskinson. I have recently come upon an album of about 2 dozen tintypes (and a few paper photos) from the 1860s to 1890s, and am interested in trying to identify the people therein. I know only one person in the album so far, my grandfather, William C. Hoskinson, as a young boy. I will soon be posting these photos to the Hoskinson family tree I am working on, which is a public tree here.

I believe that most of the photos were of Hoskinsons from Putnam Co., and Licking Co., but there is one from an Indiana photographer and one from a McKinney Texas photographer.

Samuel Hoskinson

Looking for links prior to 1850 for Samuel or Samuel Elson Hoskinson, b. 1815 Ohio or Virginia?

He married Mary Ann Simpson in Putnam Co., Ohio on June 7, 1841. Her parents were Thomas and Sarah Simpson, both born in Virginia, and who lived in Blanchard, Putnam, Ohio.

Samuel had a sister, Amanda b. 1832 in Ohio. Samuel and Amanda had at least one brother, A.K. Hoskinson b. 1813, but probably at least one more.

Samuel and Mary Ann had three children, Martha Jane, Almira, and Charles Samuel. Almira and both parents died in the Fort Wayne scarlet fever epidemic in 1855. Martha Jane was deaf as a result of the scarlet fever, but went on to live a long life, she married Newton Purdey and had a daughter, Racilla (Mrs. E.H. Collar).
