I recently received the death certificate of Henry Washington Hoss (1824-1910) of Montgomery County, MO. The informant was his son, William H. Hoss (m. Florence Muns). William stated his father was born in Lincoln Co., MO. and grandparents were Jacob Hoss b. KY, and mother ---------- Berryman b. KY. I believe Wm. couldn't quite remember his grandmother's maiden name and that it may very well have been "Bergman". Also, Henry Washington's father was probably Jacob, but was born in Maryland (mother b. KY) as was stated on the 1900 census of Montgomery Co. where Henry & Martha (Eidson) Hoss were living. (Henry was not the son of Charles Hoss as stated by a couple of family researchers.)
Does anyone have information on a Jacob Hoss b. MD who m. a Bergman b. KY? There is a Martha Hoss living in Lincoln City, Montgomery Co. MO in 1840 listed with children. She would have been born about 1800-1810. Then below her was listed Jacob Hoss who would have been born about 1790-1800. Cannot locate Jacob Hoss in Lincoln, Montgomery or Warren Co. in 1850. Martha in 1840 census may have been a widow at the time and in 1857 married James Hopkins??
