Maria (Mary) Rhemann married Lewis Host; children: Margaret Host, b. abt 1865, Henry Host b. abt 1865, Anna Mae Host b. 25 Dec (1867?), Josephine Host b. 27 Mar 1869 In Wright, MI, Johanna Host b. abt Sep 1872, d. Aug 7, 1880, Jacob Host b. Jun 1878. Maria’s name was Maria in 1870 census, in 1900 and 1910, she is listed as Mary. Host info was extracted from internet; Margaret was not included - she and Henry was listed in 1870 census. Birth years for Anna and Josephine in doubt as they were not listed in 1870 census. If Maria and Lewis were married in St Joseph’s Catholic Church, Conklin, MI, the record was not kept (per ch. secretary).

NOTE: The above format is one I enhanced and you may
need to know that I grouped Joseph's (known) spouses
together as '1' and '2'; in the children list, I
related the children, of each spouse accordingly, by
inserting the spouses' number between the 'c' and the
small roman numeral. If I have confused you, please
let me know.
I am trying to research Joseph and Huldah but I am not
getting any where fast. I know Huldah was from Ontario,
Canada but I do not know if she married Joseph there or
elsewhere.

I have the obituary for my great grandmother, Lydia who
was the sister of Mary (or Maria).

I am trying to contact descendents of Louis and
Mary Host who were married in Ottawa Co., MI about
1862 and (supposed to have) died in Muskegon Co.,
MI.
Mary has been identified as Mary, Mary S. and as
Salina. Most postings give her maiden name as
Raymond but her maiden name was Rhemann (pro-nounced
as 'Ray-mann' which is why census takers wrote
Raymond). I am a descendent of Mary's sister, Lydia
who was my great grandmother.
Incedentally, Mary birth name was Maria.
I would like to exchange information with Mary's
descendents and, if possible, work together on
research of the parents of the two ladies.

You are absolutely correct, Joanna's mother
was Mary (born Maria Rhemann) and Lewis
Host.

Led Astray

A few weeks ago, I asked about Mrs. Louis Host of
Brunswick, GA; I now found I was led astray by an
error in obituary. I am looking for descendents of
a Mrs. Lewis Host. Lewis Host was in the 1870
Ottawa County (MI) census, in the 1900 Oceana
County (MI) census and in the 1910 Muskegon (MI)
census. In the 1870 census, Mrs Host first name
was Maria but in the other 2 censuses, the name
listed as Mary. I believe the maiden name of
Maria/Mary was Rhemann and she was born in
Jackson County, MI.
If you have any information on this family, would you
please share it with me.

Oops forgot. I found JOHN BAPTIST HOST's parents in my files that I had mislaid.
Father: Philip Host, born in PA 1824 (?); died 6/4/1869 in Phila., PA.
Mother: Catherine, born 1841 in PA; died 4/17/1891 in Phila, PA.
Still looking for siblings and family.
Is this the same family you are working with?

Yes, I did know they were neighbors. Thank you for the tip on the Kent Co. site. I've gotten info for others on that site, but I don't think I tried Anthony yet. Many of my family were old settlers of Kent County, so it's proven helpful, and one of the best county sites I've come across in my research.

site? In case you did not know, Kent County is a neighbor
of Ottawa County.

Your Anthony and Lewis are likely related. Somehow,
your reply did not get to me, sorry for the delay. I am
not related to Lewis but his wife is, I believe, the sister
of my great grandmother; I am trying to get a handle
on her parents.

My GGG Grandfather was Anthony Host b. 1823 in Bavaria, d. 1906 in Wright Twp., Ottawa Co., MI. I do not have info as to if his siblings came to the US with him, nor do I have a Lewis or Louis listed in his family. It may be a starting place, though, considering the name & place.

Please accept my apologies but the newspaper clipping,
that I have, is in error; the first name of Mrs. Host's husband
is not Louis but Lewis and so far, I can not find that he left
Michigan for Georgia so I assume Mrs. Host must have moved
to Georgia to live with a daughter or son. Lewis Host and
family lived in Wright Township, Ottawa County, Michigan
until at least 1900. Any information on this family will be very
appreciated.

'sister who survived' my great grandmother's death.
Mrs. Host most likely was born in Michigan sometime
after 1840.

Margaret Ellen Host

Looking for info about my great-grandmother. She was born in 1859--possibly in Missouri. She married Henry Washington Hopkins in 1875 in Missouri. They moved to Dallas County, Texas before 1885. They moved to Indian Territory at some point into what is now Bryan County, Oklahoma. She died about 1944 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. I think she is buried at Tecumseh, OK. The children of Henry W. and Margaret E. are: Ada, Rufus, Thomas Otto, Albert Wade, Bess, Myrtle, Tonie. If anyone has info about her parents, siblings, etc. I'd like to hear from you.

From a column titled LYONS.

Mr. Joseph Host died Saturday night at 11 o’clock, he was only confined to the house about one week, he was in his seventy-sixth year and came to this country when nineteen years of age. He was married in New York City and came to Lyons, Wis., in 1841 where he has resided since, respected by all who knew him. He was at the first meeting to organize the Walworth County Agricultural Society. He leaves a widow and eight children living, one son died in the army and one here at Lyons. The funeral services was held on Tuesday at St. Mary’s church, Burlington, the possession of about teams leaving Lyons at 6 o’clock a.m. Several of the children who live in the west were unable to be present. Thus one by one the saved ones are passing away. Mr. Host’s smiling face and pleasant greeting will be missed by the community.

Julius S. Host Dies in Milwaukee Hospital

Julius Sebastian Host, aged 79 years, died at 8:30 o’clock Saturday morning at a Milwaukee hospital after an illness of several weeks duration. He had recently undergone two operations as a last resort to save his life and in his weakened condition was unable to withstand the effects.
The deceased was born in Lyons, Wis., April 11, 1844. He lived there for a number of years, later going to Kenosha where for more than ten years he operated a most successful meat market.
He had recently observed the 49th anniversary of his wedding and had planned next year to celebrate his golden wedding.
Surviving Mr. Host are a widow, Mrs. Catherine Host; six sons and three daughters: Arthur and Philip Host, of Kenosha; Ernest and Leo Host Lake Genea; Joseph Host of Chicago; Raymond Host of Racine; Mrs. Nora Napper of Lake Geneva; Mrs. Elizabeth Kaiser of Wisconsin Rapids; and Mrs. A. J. Gement of Racine. His son, Dr. Walter Host, died four years ago.
Funeral services were held today at St. James church, Kenosha, and burial was in the Catholic cemetery of that city.

Note: This is typed exactly as it appeared in the newspaper. Lake Genea in the 4th paragraph is a typo and should read Lake Geneva.
