It sound like you are referring to Marguerite Emelie [or Emelie Marguerite] Bossier who was married to Pierre Simon Hotard. These are my GGG Grandparents as well. I have sent you an invitation to the Hotard discussion list. I hope you will introduce yourself to the group and let everyone know what you are searching for. It's a very quiet list, but you should get some responses.
Good luck!
Renée
Renee, you may be right. I have little knowledge other than what I have found on my own, or what Paticia Swanson sent me about 20 years ago. Patricia is the wonderful wife of my equally wonderful nephew, Johnny Swanson.

I did learn from what she went that I totally turned in info regarding the birth place of my older siblings, & I may have given erroneous info regarding their birth dates as well.

I do recognize the names of Matthieu Hotard & Marie Geneieve Bourgeois from my research so long ago.

My mother's ancestry is a lot easier to trace since much of it comes from history books & records from the Citizens Potawatomi Indian Nation. My mother was Scot-Irish on her paternal side, & she was French & American Indian on her maternal side. the Tribal info was easier to trace because of the royal blood line from King Henry IV of Navarre. In or about 1979 or 1980 our then Tribal Administrator, John Schoemann (& his wife at that time, Paula), took Tribal records to Utah to be archived for posterity's sake.

The information from family members varies some on both sides due to human error. When I was stuck on Malvina Buford I sent for death records on Grandma Caroline (Carrie)
Bellanger Hotard, and Justilla Fields hoping for a lead. I could not read the signature & I would ask all of my friends and family if they could read it & no one could. One day I went to the LDS Family History center in Moore, OK. A friend, Mary Woodhouse was there & I asked her if she could & she could'nt. She said ask that lady right there she will tell you. I asked the lady, who was in her 80's of maybe 90's & she took one look & said her name is Malvina Buford. Then I could she she was correct, it was simply a very old penmanship..

I am ashamed to say that after I graduated I went to work, & I have done little in the past 18 years. How I appreciate this opportunity to connect with those of you who can assist me. I have felt a nagging in my spirit for all these years that nothing is completed.
regarding the DNA testing, the LDS Church did mine about 2002 or 2003, but I know nothing of the findings. I will contact the LDS History Library to see what I can learn. I will happily share.
Thanks.
Ginger

It is not a surname of mine, but I have read on a website that the surname "Hotard" is a related Francophone variant to Basque surname "Otarte".

However, with your new information, this may not be true, as you mentioned you have discovered a relative of yours has discovered your ancestors coming from a different region.

Looking up the region you gave me, it is actually a region in France, and actually more closer to the Southeast of France, in the French department of "Vaucluse". A few lengths west of the Italy border. So in all likelihood, you are not a Basque, but rather just French.

The line of Matthieu Hotard comes directly from France. Our Matthieu returned there to die [at the age of 82] [ended up in Saint-Tropez] after his beloved Marie Genevieve Bourgeois passed away at the age of 68.
I have heard "rumors" that the Autards were ultimately Nordic, but have never found anything to support that.
We have started a Hotard DNA board at FTDNA and we invite all Hotards to participate. Right now we have just one "official" member. Perhaps if more people do the testing we might begin to make some real progress in our quest to know our ancestors
Renee

Dear Joyce,
Thanks for your sweet comments & your offer to share family information. Somewhere in my world of packed boxes is some information on my siblings, & a little I found on the Hotard lineage.
Do you know that Hotard isn't Fr.!?! It is Autard (O-tard) & is Scot or Scotch-Irish. Early Fr. settlers of Nova Scotia who were known as Acadians. They were deported to LA. in the 18th century. We Hotard's are descendants of these settlers - LA. Cajuns. I did find a Mary Murphy several generations back, & Great-grandpa Eugene Fields, & his wife Justilla. Her maiden name was Buford & her mother's name was Malvina Buford. I did enter it in the Hotard genealogy at the LDS Genealogy Library in the early 90's. This is the best place I have found for Family History research. It is operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, it is free & you will not be obligated for any religious participation, & the people are so very helpful. There I found info contributed by a distant Hotard cousin, last-name Torres.
I do not know if Dad ever forgave Jack & Phyllis for adopting the boys out. There was quite a rift in the family over it. It is my opinion that Jack's bad health was a factor + he had married an 18 year-old (someone perhaps whose emotional age may have been close to his own at that time. Perhaps neither had the emotional maturity to rear them properly at that time. He & Mitzi had had no childhood & little education. They had to work to help support the family. He did not want the same for his children. Neither Dad, nor Jack had a father figure to mentor them. There was no internet for us to teach the delicate art of parenting. Despite everything Jack grew up to be one of the sweetest men I have ever known. He always kept that boyish part of himself alive. I believe he loved his family, but he did not know how to be a husband or how to parent. He had a good heart, & he always meant well, but he was often misunderstood. I love him and I accept his human frailties, as I have a few of them myself! Such as Foot & Mouth disease -- speaking things that are taken for bad when they are not meant that way at all.
Joyce, that's all the rambling for tonight. Feel free to email anytime. Someday I hope to meet you, & to meet Jay, Cheryl, & Rick again. Jack was so proud of them & he knew they had reached successes they might not have reached had they stayed with him.
Jack was a Christian, & he had a child-like faith right up to the last conversation we had. He always gave God the glory for everything.
With love,
Aunt Ginger

Although we've never met, your brother and my father-in-law Jack has always spoken very highly of you. My husband is Jay Clifton. Maybe our paths will cross someday. Dad Jack shared your family research with us which was a big help. A cousin from Minnesota helped me with the parents of Alice Victoria Hagstrom, Oscar John Hagstrom's wife. Her father was Andrew Peter Olin. If you are interested, I will be glad to share my findings with you.
Look forward to hearing from you...Joyce R. Bradley

Ronald Pierre Hotard (aka Frenchy) Sr, our Dad who passed thru the veil Aug 1989 in Houston TX. His 1st wife was the mother of his 1st 5 children (Jack's mother): Alfreda Hagstrom? (I knew her as Kay). She was a kind, quiet, hard-working woman who passed when I was 13, she was only 47 years old.

Ronald Pierre Hotard Jr. (aka Jack, after our dad's older brother) is my eldest brother who passed thru the veil July 2012 in Ft Wayne IN. A sweet gentle man who loved his family. Although Jack & his 1st spouse Betty had divorced by the late 50's, many young people appeared at his door in Ft Wayne over the years thinking that he was their father. He had had no contact with Betty for many years before these youngsters were born. He had remarried when he was 27 (1963) to Phyllis Posey, & he had become disabled by the age of 28 with R.A.

He and Betty had 2 handsome, energetic sons: Rick, who looked like Betty, became a Baptist minister. Cliff, who looked like Jack, manages Retail store/s. I believe they live in the southern states area. I hadn't seen them since I was 9 years old, except once when Jack & Phyllis married in 1963. His daughter Cheryl, a lovely & sweet little girl,
born about 1960, whom I I saw met once, when I was 16, in 1963. She lives in the Houston area I believe,

Jack & Phyllis procreated 1 beautiful daughter, Jacqueline, who passed in the 90's, just a few years after her mother Phyllis passed. All of his children were very beautiful, & Jack was so proud of them. He sent photos of them as adults. Cheryl reminds me of our cousin Jeanne Hotard.

Our oldest sibling, Blanche Clarisse Hotard Swanson (aka Mitzi) a beautiful, thoughtful, generous person who loved her family and friends, passed Sep 2011 in Houston. She left behind 3 terrific & lovable sons: John Jr, Ronald, & Rick; and 1 precious lovable daughter, Deborah; 8 fabulous grandchildren & 5? precious great-grandchildren.

Our 2nd brother is Richard Eugene Hotard who lives near Timpson TX was always so sweet, I think he was born about 1938. He & his wonderful wife, Darlene(?) (I know her as Tootie, & he couldn't have found a better one) have 3 fine adult children: Rip Debbie Jean, & Diana -- all 3 are really wonderful people. I really cannot recall all of the grandchildren's names, but I do remember how sweet and thoughtful they have been with me.

Patricia Ann Hotard, a precious and thoughtful soul & our 2nd sister, passed in May 2002, leaving behind her devoted husband Bill, 3 beautiful adult children, Suzanne, Neal, & Deeanna, & 5 darling grandcildren.

Our sister Victoria Jean, about 3.5 years older than me,
& the youngest of Dad & Kays' children. She lives in the Houston area, & she one of the 1st career drafts women around. She is intelligent, well-read, & articulate,

Verna, wife #2 for Frenchy was mother to James Wayne Hotard & me.

The Hotard's are good, intelligent, hard working people who do not believe that where they live, wear, or drive, determines who they are.

Perhaps this will help someone who is searching.

Hotards are Basque. "Hotard" is a French Francophone variation of the Basque surname "Otarte". The Basques are a European ethnic group native to Southwest France and North-Central Spain, near the Bay of Biscay. They speak their own language, which is, unlike Spanish and French, not Indo-European in origin.

Some of the Basques which settled with the French in Nova Scotia changed their names to French names, to better associate themselves with the French organization of the New World. So you might think you are French ancestry but you may actually be a Basque.

When the Civil war broke out he was one of the biggest land owners in Iberville Parish owning Over 130 slaves.
I have a copy of his succession it's one and a half inches thick. I'm also kin to the Barbays and Bargas families, although it is on the Bush side. Hope to hear back.
jlbush@live.com

I've sent you an invitation to our private website. I can add you to our Rootsweb discussion list if you would like. We are a very small group. However, we have made a connection to a Hotard in France and he and his Hotard wife have sent us many, many BMD records of our ancestors over there. So that has been a great blessing.
If you join the discussion group, please introduce yourself, tell how you connect, so the other group members can respond, perhaps with the information you are seeking.
Welcome aboard....
R

But perhaps there is someone "out there" who does.
The message board is fairly new as is the discussion list. So I'm not sure how much help you'll get. But at least your message is recorded here for the future.
Renee

Have any of the Louisiana/ New Orleans Hotard males done DNA testing at
www.ftdna.com?

If not, let's hope some will. If a Hotard group at FTDNA were created, the price for joining as a group would lower the cost of the testing.

I had heard that the Hotards were ultimately Nordic. Such DNA testing would help to tell us if this were true.

R Hotard

Her parents were Pierre Simon [Pedro Simon Outar] Hotard who married Emelie [Emillitte, Emelite] [Marguerite] Bossie [Bossier] on 27 Jan 1807 in St. John the Baptist Church Bk 1 pg 141 B
Pierre was born 3 Jun 1784, in St. Charles Parish, La. and died 4 [5] Dec 1855 [1807?] in Edgard, St. John Baptist Parish, La.
Emelie was born about 1793 and died 24 Mar 1821 in her father's home in St. John the Baptist Parish, La.

FYI, the person who has done the most extensive work on the Hotard family is Irna Adams Centanni. She has written volumes in journals such as New Orleans Genesis and L'Heritage.

Irna is a wonderful person but, tragically, lost all of her research in Katrina. All that is left is what she has published.

I have a lot of information on these folks... not very well organized.

R Hotard

I have different dates.
I have Simon born 3 Apr 1706 in Menerbes, Provence, France
Died 22 Oct 1758 in Bonniux, Provence, Fraance
on 13 Jan 1728 he married, in Bonnieux, Mariane Jullien [born 24 Oct 170- in Bonnieux; died 21 [Nov or Dec] 1756.
I have their children: Augustin Francois Xavier, Elzear Xavier, Marie Jeanne, Jean Baptiste, Catherina, Marie Rose, Matthieu, Louise, Marguerite, Joseph and Marie Therese.
Happy to discuss the Hotards.
My understanding is that all Hotards in the US came from Matthieu Autard [Otard, Outar, Autarre, Hotard] who was born 21 Jan 1743 [some have 1744] in Bonnieux, Vauclause, France and died Dec 1826 in Saint Tropez, France [Marseille] He married Marie Genevieve Bourgeois about 1772 in St. John the Baptist Church in St. Charles Parish, La. She was born about 1753 in St. Charles Parish, La and died 15 Jun 1821 in St. Charles Parish.
R Hotard

Carolyn,

My gggrandfather was Albert Hotard(b. abt. 1805-06, m. May 5, 1828) His parents were Mathieu Hotard(II, b. 1775 New Orleans; d. Nov, 1842 Lafourche Parish) and Marguerite Bourgeois. This Mathieu was an older brother to your Marcelite Hotard(b. abt. 1794).
Albert's wife, however, was Marguerite Elisa Folse(b. abt. 1815-16) I believe her father was your Alexis Folse(b. June 2, 1789) and her mother was the same Marcelite Hotard. This definitely makes them cousins!
Albert and Marguerite had several children. I am related to two--Marie Otilie Hotard(spouse of Jean Constant) and Marie Elodie Hotard(spouse of Antoine Torres) through my mother's father, Ferdinand F. Torres. Would be happy to share any information with you.
