Hi Anne -

This is Chris Holben. Jane Hotchkiss and Jeptha Bolt are my GGGG grandparents. Their daughter Anna Arpatia Cross is my GGG grandmother, Anna Arpatia's daughter Martha Cross is my GG grandmother and Martha's daughter Pearl Gates is my Great grandmother.

I believe I might have solved the Jeptha mystery. He and Cornelius Bolt both lived in St. Joseph County, Michigan at the same time in Colon and Burr Oak townships that border one another. As you know, Jeptha moved to Minnesota and Cornelius eventually moved to Illinois. There was also a Benjamin Bolt in Minnesota at the same time as Jeptha. Upon searching census records, I have found Cornelius, Benjamin, Jr., Benjamin Senior and Isaiah Bolt living in Charlton, Saratoga, New York from the late 1700's to the 1840's. Although I do not see a record for Jeptha, I have to believe that he and Cornelius (and possibly Benjamin, Jr.) are brothers. Benjamin, Sr. could be their father and Isaiah could be Benjamin, Sr.' father. This all the more sense if, as I believe, Jeptha's wife, Jane Hotchkiss, was born in Washington County, New York - which borders on Saratoga County, New York. Let me know your thoughts.

Best,

Chris Holben

Hi Debbie,
Do you by any chance have a Family Tree Maker program? I have the 2006 version, and could copy all the info on a disk for you and send it if you would like. I do have it posted somewhere on line too, but it's been so long since I worked on it, I forgot where. If I figure that out I'll let you know too. Other wise I'll get all this info to you somehow.
Lisa

Hi Lisa,
It has been a while since I have been on the boards. I have a new email and am still interested in any information on the Hotchkiss family from Mosinee. I have found quite a bit more and have it posted to my tree online. Would like to exchange info and see if I can fill in any missing information.
One very important fact I had found since last post was that I do have 15 half-sibs I didnt know about. Quite interesting.

DAKmom@gmail.com
Glaser-Knudten Family Tree

Thanks
Debbie

He was born about 1907 in Downsville, NY to Orlando Scoville Hotchkiss and Clarissa Miller. My mother received information years later that he lived in New York and passed away around 1969. I cannot confirm any of this information. If you have anything to share I would appreciate it. Thanks!

When you say "that is all you know" - does that mean you do not know any dates?

I am interested in your mention of M. V. HOTCHKISS. I have a Miles Hotchkiss with a link to Pennsylvania. He was born in the early 1800's in Canada, but married a wife from PA according to a Family Bible entry.

His potential ancestral line came through Whitehall, NY to Franklinville, NY and then disappear. I have reason to believe they might have gone to PA. One branch - mine - came into Canada. I am guessing that grandson Miles HOTCHKISS went into PA to visit relatives, a grandfather named Benjamin or an uncle named Hiram, and came back with a wife from there.

I would appreciate any bits of information that might help me take this one step further.
Hotchkiss Families in Eau Claire Wisconsin

I have seen some messages in the board from quite a few years ago in regards to Hotchkiss families in Eau Claire. If you are still out there or have any info on these families please contact me, I am doing research on a family member that married a Laverne Hotchkiss whose parents were Hiram ( Jack) and Marie. I know there were two Laverne Hotcjkiss boys in this town at the same time...I have seen them in the Eau Claire HIgh School yearbooks! Thanks you!

I need to digest some of the information you included in the post. I had been searching for information on Thomas W Hotchkiss, but put it aside with a little frustration ;-) and moved onto other lines.

I have a copy of the obituary for Sarah Ellen Hotchkiss. She is listed as the daughter of T.W. and Melissa Hotchkiss. Moved to Crowley Co. KS in 1877. Married Joseph C Harris. Had three children. Died Jun 12, 1955. I have not seen a reference to Melissa in any other information I have seen.

I hadn't been able to find an 1860 census for Thomas, but suspected he was in Knox Co. somewhere. I am trying to nail down where he really came from. His obit says Ineis, Butler Co., Ohio. His civil war pension file indicates he was born in CT.

The tombstone included the very specific total ages of the 5 men when they died 443, an average of 89 years. The family was obviously proud of their longevity. Someone may have lived past 100. (Gilead, David's son did) The Hotchkiss family founder in CT, Samuel was only 41 when he died,so "Martial" is someone else. He might be a "Jr" using a middle name. Somewhere along the line the wrong Gideon, Stephen, or Joshua has been substituted climbing this individual's tree. Or, less likely, a father outlived a younger person of the same name and the dates of death were switched.
David Hotchkiss 1740-1826 lived 87 yrs
Gideon Hotchkiss 1716- 1807 90 yrs
Stephen Hotchkiss 1681-1755/56 74 years (kinda young?)
Joshua Hotchkiss 1651-1722 71 (even worse)
Samuel Hodgkins/Hotchkiss 1822-1663 age 41
...................................Total 363

I am interested in John, son of Milo. Where was Eleanor Munson from, and where was John born? Do you know his middle name and could he have been in Brooklyn in 1872?
The reason I ask is that Alice Davis and John William Hotchkiss had a child Armiah Alice Hotchkiss, born 1872 in Nova Scotia but baptised in Henrysburg, Quebec (near Sherrington, Hemmingford, Lacolle, etc).
If you have any information that might help me, it would be greatly appreciated.
Peggy G.

Hello,
I am looking for a John William Hotchkiss who was supposed to be in Brooklyn in 1872. When his daughter Armiah Alice was baptised, it was stated that she was the daughter of John William Hotchkiss of Brooklyn and Alice Davis, his wife. Armiah was born in Nova Scotia, Canada and her mother Alice Davis was from Quebec. does this tie in with any of your Hotchkisses.
Peggy

John William Hotchkiss, Brooklyn, 1872

Armiah alice Hotchkiss was born May 1872 in Nova Scotia, Canada. Her baptism states that she was the daughter of John William Hotchkiss of Brooklyn, and Alice Davis, his wife. I am not certain that they were married. However, I am looking for John William Hotchkiss who was residing in Brooklyn in 1872. Later on, on the 1910 US census, Armiah Alice (Mira) said her father was from Connecticut. At that time, Mira was in Revere, Suffolk, Massachusetts.
Thanks for any information on John William Hotchkiss.
Peggy G.

While researching another family, I found the following marriage announcment in the December 27th 1894 edition of the Mt.Clemens Press newspaper (Mt.Clemens, Macomb County, MI):
"Married, Wednesday, Dec.26 at the home of Mrs. Savage, on Union street, but Rev William Bryant, Mr. Thomas Hotchkiss of Lake Linden, Mich., and Miss Marie Chapman of Macomb township. They left for the north via Utica immediately after the wedding. This is the third wedding knot that Mr. Bryant has tied in the Hotchkiss family withing a few months."
I'm not researching these families, but I hope this information will be of some use to someone.

Tina Scott
