The "Hawaiian Family Houghtailing," here in Hawaii are all related and come from the line of George Washington Houghtailing who arrived here in the islands around 1849/1850 from the Hudson-Mohawk Valley area in New York. He set up roots here in the islands after marrying two Hawaiian women.
There was one daughter from the first marriage and about eleven children from the second marriage. I, Dannette (Dani), come from the second marriage - my grandfather was the second Daniel True and the first born Daniel died around 1879 and my grandfather was not born until 1882.
All of my research so far points to the fact the name is of Dutch origin and there are al least 50 different spellings of the name. I have yet to secure a b/c of G.W. Houghtailing.
I hope this exp[lanation will enlighten you.
