HOULTON IN LEICESTERSHIRE

In the Jul/Aug/Sep quarter of 1856 I’ve found death registrations for two Elizabeth Houltons. Is anyone able to confirm whether one of these was Elizabeth nee Musson (born c1831 in Croxton Keyrial, Leicestershire) who married Henry Houlton on 16 December 1849, also in Croxton Keyrial?

Also, I’ve been unable to find any Leicestershire death record for the same Henry Houlton (baptized 15 December 1824 in Croxton Keyrial). Am wondering if it’s possible that after his wife’s premature death he went to Canada where his only surviving child (John Henry Houlton) had immigrated c1873. I’ve found a 1901 death record (but nothing else) for one otherwise unaccounted for Henry Houlton (approximately the right age) in the same part of Canada (Middlesex County in Ontario) and am thinking it might be him.

Any assistance much appreciated!
Patrick: I have researched the Mercereau/Mersereau family of Staten Island.John Mercereau b 3/2/1732 d 2/21/1820 Union NY, married first Mary Prall b 1734 d 2/15/1770, 3M 3F. John then married Barbary Van Pelt b 10/19/1752 d 3/10/1847 Union NY. 3M. John and Barbary lived in Woodbridge NJ where they operated the Flying Machine Stage Coach between Staten Island and Philadelphia until 1777 at which point he joined the Revolution..they also owned the Blazing Star Ferry.Barbara and John were spies for George Washington and correspondence from/to George are on file at the Library of Congress. Have you been able to tie the Van Pelt/ Houlton (Houlten) marriage together yet? .....Rae

His son David had a daughter Lydia Houlton who married Joseph Kidder in Philadelphia in the 1790s. John was supposed to have come from England. They were Quakers in PA and MD. Any help is appreciated.

Hi Carolyn,
According to what I have, Margery's first husband was Francis Hounton and they had five children: Francis [my ancestor] who married Mary in 1745, Ann who married Mr. Wallace and then Samuel Morton, Elizabeth who married a Pharr or Farr, Mary who married Mr. Rowland, and Margery who married Mr. Breaden. In 1754 Francis Hounton bought a tract of land named "Solitude" in York Co., PA. I'm not sure if this was the father or the son. Bill LaBach in Lexington, KY.

any further info on this family, please? Lea
FIRST GENERATION

1. Jinks HOULTON -i.

He was married to Louisa V. CADWALLADER -C (daughter of Charles H. CADWALLADER -C (1GP) and Elizabeth S. FEASTER -C (1GP)). Louisa V. CADWALLADER -C was born on July 6, 1875. She died on December 1, 1972. She was a Nurse ? to 1956 in Battle Creek, Michigan. She was also known as Lula. She was No Issue. From: Mvire53 Maureen
I'm afraid I wasn't as lucky this time. I checked the paper for Louisa's obituary, but could not find it. I thought that if she had moved to Indiana it might appear a few days after the first, but after checking for a week, I could not find an obituary for her. I checked city directories(Battle Creek) and found a mention of her from 1952-1956. She was not in the 1957 directory. The directory did say she was a nurse.
