James E. Houston
James E. Houston, age 81, of Erie,
died Sunday, June 7, 2009 at his residence. He was born November 15, 1927 in Washington, Mo., son of the late Leroy Houston and Viola Taylor Houston Compfort. He had resided in Erie for most of his life. Jim was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the U.S. Army. He had previously been employed at Sterling Seal and Modern Industries. Jim was a member of the North East Athletic Club. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his step-father, David Compfort and his sister, Leola Polk. Survivors include his beloved companion of over 20 years, Francine R. Greene; one daughter, Ellen Clair of North East; four sons, Solomon Clair and Jaymes Houston both of North East, Francis Houston of Florida and Nathaniel Greene of Erie; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road on Wednesday from 2 p.m. until the time of the service there at 4 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Damon Peterson, Pastor, Fellowship Baptist Church. Private interment. Memorial contributions may be made to the Northwestern PA Humane Society, P.O. Box 3930, Erie, PA 16508.
