I have been researching the Hovater/Hovarter families off and on for the past 20 years but more diligently for the past year on Ancestry. My direct line settled in Franklin Co, AL and kept the name spelled HOVATER. The brother who went to Arkansas spelled it HOVARTER.
We are all connected through the emmigrant ancestor.
Carrie McGee
Jasper, AL

I am interested in the Hovarter line. My grandmother was Hattie Hovarter who married Jacob weirich in Indiana. Her father was John Hovarter born around 1809. I can't find him in census records and wonder if he had another first name. Write me at cstein01@coin.org as I am at a Library

Thanks for the information, Shirley. It might help me find a few answers. Do you know anything about the parents of Nettie and Billy? On their mother's side, the name Plumley keeps showing up on my research. But I can't find any information on the Plumley side of the family. Can't find much on the Hovarter side, either. I know Grandmother (Nettie) said she was part Indian. I'm trying to link this together. She sure looked like an Indian. So does my mother and her brothers and sisters. The Indian ancestry must have come from family other than Hovarter. Again, thanks for your help,
Dan Foster

I was looking through some family records and came across your message. Your grandmother Nettie, was my fathers sister, his name was Louie Jay. Uncle Billy and Aunt Alice had twin sons a.j. and J.W . My youngest sister was named Alice after her. I really don't know much about my family history because mom and daddy were killed when I was 13 and I went to live at a Childrens Home in Louisiana.

In my genealogy for the Casselman's my 1st cousin once removed Norma J. Casselman daughter of Clarence M. Casselman and Francis P. Peck born March 16, 1932 married a Mr. Hovarter (I don't know his first name) and I know for sure they had a son named Bill or William Hovarter and I am assuming he is still alive. They may have had a daughter(s) too. I am trying to find some one from this family so I can fill in the blanks for them in my family genealogy.
