I am a descendant of the Abraham Howell family who originally settled in Southanmpton, Long Island, which was described by Heather Vance on this board in 2001/2002. Some of this family moved to Morris County in the 18th century, including my gggggrandfather, Nathan Howell. Nathan purchased property in the Hackensack area of Black River, now Chester, NJ. His only daughter Sarah Howell(1765-1840), married Reuben Gest around 1783. Seven children were born to this family, including my ancestor Nathan Howell Gest (1797-1838). Most of this family left NJ around 1817 and settled in SW Ohio. Nathan Gest moved on to Morgan County, IL and was followed later by three of his brothers and his Mother, Sarah Howell Gest. I would like to contact Heather Vance regarding her Howell family history, and particularly the written history of the Howells that came from her grandfather.
