Ruth White Howsley was the daughter of Thomas and Margaret March White who immigrated from Yorkshire to Lafayette County WI in 1845. Ruth married first William Howsley with whom she moved to Gold Hill Nevada. After the death of William, Ruth Howsley moved to Sutter County CA where she married William's brother George. Ruth White Howsley has a large number of descendents--many still in the Sutter County area.

I have collected information for over 25 years about the family of Thomas and Margaret White who immigrated to White Oak Springs in Lafayette County, Wisconsin in 1845 from the North Riding of Yorkshire. I have finally managed to get it organized into a website. Included in the website is a summary of what is known about the ancestors of Thomas and Margaret and a bit about their descendents along with scans of photographs and family documents and some anecdotes about family members and/or events.

The introductory page to the website can be seen at
http://www.contexo.info/Thomas&MargaretWhite/index.html From there you will find links to the other pages.

Of special interest to a more general audience are transcripts of a set of letters to Thomas and Margaret White in England from Margaret’s parents George and Sarah March who had already settled in Wisconsin. The letters contain some details of their daily life in the early 1840’s and some very interesting instructions from Sarah to her daughter about what to bring on the trip to America.

Those transcripts can be found at http://www.contexo.info/Thomas&MargaretWhite/George&...

(The URL ends in Marchletters.htm.)

I hope the site will be of interest and enjoyment to all.
