I am researching Sylvanus Sanford HOXIE who was born 1/13/1861 in Sandwich, Barnstable Co., MA, the son of George Fox HOXIE and his wife, Elizabeth D. SMITH. Sylvanus married my g-g-grandmother Susan Ann (MIDKIFF) SKINNER on 11/20/1899 in St. Marys, Pleasants Co., WV. According to family tradition, Sylvanus had worked on whaling vessels while living in Massachusetts. Why he relocated to WV is a mystery, unless it was for coal mining or the oil industry.
