This could be first marriage since some one thought to be her maiden surname.I mean she may never mention this could've been annulled if she had got married at young age.So I would go to Family Search research to see if this could be a married surname.

My name is Lynne Ann Harvey Hoxie. My mother is Carol Ann Hoxie Harvey, your grandfather's youngest sister. We can tell you about the wonderful man your grandfather was and about his family tree. Feel free to contact me at this email address. I can also put you in contact with my mother. My parents, my husband and I will be in Massachusetts in 1 week.

It was our impression that your family had a box of family records - but that may have gotten lost by now. It's nice to meet you cousin (since I'm your father's first cousin that would make us first cousins once removed).

May be a connection? On my side of the Hox(s)ies - G-Grandfather was C.D. Hoxie of Concord, MI(Mother was Miraim Angeline Wisner whose Father was Cornelius Durrin Wisner). I heard it was "Uncle John" Hoxie - cousin or uncle of C.D. (Mother always called him Uncle John and said he was really her Great Uncle) who went to Alaska (Nome) and was partners with Wyatt Earp in a "Saloon". Supposedly was a Texas Ranger at one point before or after. Was it Tom Hoxie who was there or were both Tom and John there at that time? Anyone?

Finally discovered the C.D. of my G-Grandfather's name - from his mother Miriam Angeline Wisner's side: dau of Cornelius Durrin Wisner! She married William Lewis Hoxsie, C.D.'s Father. Was always told that C.D. was his entire name - now I have doubts. Maybe it was or maybe "CD" didn't care for his name and simply went by his intials. ?? Either way, I finally know about this. Any other info would be much appreciated.

Re: Hoxie family around Madison County, NY

My grandmother and grandfather were Edna and George. My mother was their youngest child Rosemary. I met your grandfather Rex and grandmother Elvira as well as Judy when I was a preteen also a lot of the other siblings at one point or another. Nana and Papa used to have a big Thanksgiving dinner. I had always spelled Nana's (Edna's) middle name May, am not sure now which is correct. My mother had always said that in some way we were related to Elizabeth Barret Browning. After seeing your post I started searching again a little and found Papa's (George's) obit in the Oct 6th 1966 Oneonta Star. My mom had always said that there were 12 children, your post is the first I knew of Robert and the obituary reminded me of names I could not remember. It says that Papa was born @ Schuyler Lake 7/29/1886 (my Mom had said he was born @ South New Berlin) the date of death is 10/5/1966 (I had written down 10/4/66)Son of David and Ida(Musher)Stanton. He married Nana 9/1/1909 in Brookfield. The children are listed as Hilda Seclow of Clinton, Pauline Stevenson, Edna May Cottet, Nellie Whitford all of Syracuse, Rosemary Mayhew (my Mom) of Shokan, Ida Shaw of Kingston, David J. of Saint Petersburg Fla, Rexford of Madison, Willis of Syracuse, Charles of Union Springs. Also 23 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren. Papa is buried the paper says @ Burlington Flats Cemetary I don't know where Nana is buried possibly next to Papa. The obituary didn't mention Richfield Springs High, it did say he taught in the Binghamton School System and later served as principal in Kingston (near me), Oneida, Clayville and Leonardsville and supervising principal of Highland School Systems. I do not know much about Nana, when I was about 14 she had loaned me a quite lengthy family tree but I do not know what happened to it after that. A site I found @ www.faqs.org/people-search/edna-stanton/ has a listing which is likely Nana. It says DOB is 3/23/1888 (I have written down 3/22/1887) DOD is 10/1/1978 (I have written 10/24/1978) I know the death year is 1978 because It is was year my first daughter was born I did not go to the funeral, I missed my Mom and Aunt Nell when they came to tell me and go upstate. This listing has a Zip code of 13440 Rome, Essex County. That zip is actually Oneida County and I think I remember Aunt Nell saying something about the nursing home Nana was in and then mentioning Oneida, whether she meant the city or county I don't know. It also has a SSN listed as 130-42-0829. I hope this will be of some help and would appreciate knowing anything more that you may know and if I find out anything more I will gladly let you know. Thanks, Pat

Hi, I came across this family tree researching my husband's Grandmother Jessie Fuller her death cert. has her father as Rubin S. Hoxie and mother as May Smith.I found Rubin born 1859 in the 1880 Michigan census living with his wife Mary Harris and her parents along with daughter Jessie. Then I find Rubin in the 1900 Michigan census with wife Olive May McClain and children. By this time Jessie is Married to William Fuller. I find a family tree with Rubin's Father as Sylvester Hoxie Born in Rhode Island and another family tree starting with Lodowick and Mary and ending with Rubin.I'm trying to confirm that this is the family line I'm looking for? Is Olive May the "May" referred to on Jessie's birth cert. If so were did Mary Harris go?
Thanks Shelly

Hi Tim,

I used to live in Monument Beach and did some research for another member of your family. You have several lines to Nantucket too which connect you to the earliest Nantucket whaling families through Abraham Hoxie's marriage to Charlotte Pinkham. If you have further interest in the genealogical work I did for the Cunninghams, I'll willingly share.

I also did work on Eldon (?) Cunningham's wife's people who came (as I recall) from New Hampshire.. but I don't have the notes at hand and I may be off on that.

Your original Cunningham ancestor (whom I believe died in Bridgewater, Masschusetts after his immigration from Ireland) was, as I recall, the father (I don't have his first name at hand) of George Cunningham who married Rebecca L. Hoxie. Copy and paste the link I provide at the bottom into your browser and go to the line of Abraham Hoxie, then to daughter Rebecca L.

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hoxieschen...

Richard

Rick, Sorry about the delay. I believe the book is still available at Amazon or one of the online stores. If memory serves, it was $35.

I may have read one of the messages on this site that someone (a lady) has them for sale. ???

Sorry I don't remember more recent events all that well - only long-term.

Also, I read somewhere on line that a person "thinks" that Hoxie (frim Hawks/Hauks Eye) and all similar names,e.g., Hawkshaw, are all the same name.

I considered this and have arrived at a thesis that while they may be RELATED as a family, they do actually denote the Hawk family living in different parts of a particular area. Hawkseye=the Hawk (family or tribe) that lived on or near an Island; Hawkshaw=the Hawk (family or tribe) that lived by or near a copse or small forest.

There is simply too much difference in meaning to ascribe a DIRECT descendancy of any fmaily line; however, if one goes back to pre- or immediate post-Roman times - that is Celtic/Bryhonic (sp)times it may be ALL ONE LARGE family/clan as I stated earlier, and which I think may have some merit.

Gideon Hoxie (Hoxsie), son of William and Edie Kenyon Hoxie, married Henrietta Lacey. They had three daughters. I have information on their daughter Angeline(a) whom our family referred to as Annie. She was born in Stephentown, NY 3-16-1839 (Family Bible)and married Ambrose Jordan Peaster on January 22, 1857 (marriage record from Hancock, MA). The Family Bible states they married on January 6, 1856. Annie died 9-21-1879 (Certificate of Death Town of West Springfield, MA). Annie and Jordan had two daughters, Georgianna (b.7-08-1858 in New Haven, CT, d. 12-09-1942) and Jessie (b. 8-16-1860 in New Haven, CT). Ambrose Jordan Peaster had family that lived in the Hancock and Pittsfield, MA area. He died 5-23-1901 in Pittsfield, MA (Death Record Town of Pittsfield, MA).

I would be glad to share more down the line if you think it would beneficial to your research. Georgianna was my great grandmother. She married Charles Oliver Palmer, West Springfield, MA.

Still hoping to find any information on the other daughters of Gideon and Henrietta Hoxie. I know they lived in Stephentown, NY, but can't seem to find them.

Let me know if I can help further,
Mary

I'm familiar with your line and remember stumbling when I could go no further than Gideon's 4 daughters. Any info you have on them would be appreciated because I have been stuck there for a while. Have not a clue how Elisa E. CULVER came into the picture. Did you need info on Gideon's ancestor's? It is generally thought that Gideon's father spelled his name HOXSIE as did his relatives right down to Lodowick.

Thank you so much for looking. The William Hoxie I am researching is the son of Capt. Joseph Hoxie (wife thought to be a Miss Reynolds) from the line of Lodowick and Mary Presbury Hoxie. William's wife was Edie Kenyon. William and Edie had twin sons, George and Gideon, born in Stephentown, NY. Gideon is my ggg-grandfather and he married Henrietta Lacey. The 1850 Census of Stephentown, NY lists Gideon and Henrietta as having four daughters; Sally Ann, Angelina (we called her Annie - my gg-grandmother), Martha, and Abba. One of the daughters married someone with the surname Culver, whose son at age 6 years was living with his grandparents William and Henrietta Hoxie in Stephentown according to the 1870 and still in 1880 Federal Census.

Again, thank you for your help.

Wait a sec, what are the relationships of the other names in your query? Any other info you can share? There might be an error in the book. I just noticed that COLSON's father was Capt John HOXSIE. Ira's name is associated with a "Ferman", maybe your William's brother.

I'm afraid there isn't much in the book about WILLIAM HOXIE except that he was the son of COLSON. Doesn't even list a DOB. An IRA CHARLES HOXIE does show up as an unplaced/linked line. IRA apparently came to CA during the gold rush. There's also mention of HENIETTA and EMMA HOXIE, sisters under a Capt John HOXIE line.

Dave: Hello, and many thanks for your reply...it is good to hear from someone about the Hoxie's, be it a relative or one who knows of them by association or by means such as yours which sounds like some involved and dedicated research on their times. As you noted in my posting, I/my family have really nothing of visuals of the Hoxies past their asscciation with my Miller family, and a few grainy ones such as Dae, Allen's younger brother. I would greatly appreciate being able view some of your photo collection; especially if you have any photos of Paul P. and Nora, Allen's parents if you have anything in those regards, or Allen's family if that is more of what you have. I like also to hear that you did some good research about Great-Uncle ALlan, I always thought when I heard when I was younger of his career and some of his exploits that his was a story that would be a good piece of history for others to hear. Let me know how we could share some of your information, photo or otherwise. I do have a few things on Captain Hoxie, newspaper & photos, which you may mostly have but would be willing to add to your collection for your work with your review. Let me know as soon as you can, and many/many thanks for replying to my message post, it is good to hear something from others out there with these common interests in famliy lines. Take care and hope to talk to you soon. James

The members of the Ladies’ Social Union
of the First Presbyterian Church, where she was a member,
protested yesterday against the execution of the will and will
claim the body. A number of the members called at Long’s
undertaking rooms, where the body is lying, and stated
emphatically that as Mrs. HOXIE left sufficient money in the
bank to pay the funeral expenses that it was not at all fitting
that the body go to a medical school.

Mrs. HOXIE died Monday at Bethany Hospital.

======================================================
(I have no connection with this family but I'd appreciate
knowing if you found this posting helpful.)
johnobrien@kc.rr.com
======================================================

neirbo10
