BTW, the John Sr. and John Jr. originally mentioned were not found in Noland Bowling's book on Robert Hubbard's descendants.

I did order a digital copy of John Hubbard Jr.'s last will and testament but the copies are faded out. I could only read some and the last two pages are a complete blur with words missing.
Thank you for such a fast response to my problem.
I just saw your posting you done in 2003 looking for a Russell Keith Hubbard. My mother has a half brother with the same name. Their mother use to live in Gainesville, Texas. Do you happen to know if the one you are looking for had any brothers or sisters and what their names are? If it is the same one as my half uncle, I can tell you a little bit about his family but not a lot. I would know more about his mother's family than I know about his father's family.
Hi
My name is Jane Hubbard Moretti, and I think that I am in this thread somewhere. I haven't had much time in the past few years to work on my genealogy, but your post was one that caught my attention. I am also from descended from the Jesse Hubbard (Anna)line. My line is from Jesse's son Benjamin (Emilia Conner), James W.(Emilia DeHart), Benjamin Tyler (Nannie Ruth Lawson), Lance (Edna Belcher) and my dad, Willis(Nan Johnson). I had some siblings listed for Jesse, but I didnt have John. I wasn't able to confirm that Jesse's dad was Benjamin, but I had the suspicion based on some census data that I had seen. I never found the line that they were descended from. If you could send me anything on this line, it would be appreciated. My genalogical "brick wall" is Jesse wife, Anna. I have been unable to find her surname. Some say that she was Cherokee, but I can't verify that.

But to let you know, my line was, Henry lane Hubbard, Jonathan William Hubbard(sp. Sarah Luvenia Dillion), John (Jonathan possiblity, sp Mary Brammer)Hubbard, Jesse (Anna)Benjamin (Annie)Hubbard, Jr., Benjamin (Sarah) Hubbard, John (Elizabeth) Hubbard, Sr.,
Matthew (Sibella) Hubbard. Now bear in mind that ALL finding have been researched by others, but I did chech and back check through other families history using like named persons to get to where I am now. My older cousin lives South of the Patrick Co. area, and I am seeing him on the 13. I will give him all that I have, in hopes that he can take a little bit of time research when he gets home. I also plan to take a trip back to VA early next year to do some hands on research. Keep in touch...jerry

Jerry,
When you come to VA, be sure to spend some time at the Bassett Historical Center. You will be pleasantly surprised at the research materials you will find. There are books, files and info on the Hubbards in Pittsylvania, Henry, Patrick and other counties.
Cindy

I,too, am looking for the Hubbard children. Smokey, or James Albert Hubbard, was my husband's great-grandfather. How did you hear of his nickname and how did you come by the kids middle names? I don't have any info on them after Modenia died in 1941. My husband's grandmother was from Albert's first or second wife, Rose Draper. Looks as though he was married 4 or 5 times. My mother-in-law believed that Smokey was a cherokee indian. She and her sisters certainly look like they could be descended from indians. I am researching this end but there is still one sister left who would be the niece of the Hubbard children and she still remembers them.

Hi Jane,
Thank you for your lineage, too, and I'm glad to hear from another cousin! The proof of Jesse & John both being sons of Benjamin Hubbard of Patrick County was in the tax lists of Henry County, VA which is available on microfilm. DNA then confirmed the relationship. I have transcribed the Hubbards from the lists. Here is the pertinent information from 1783-1784:
Henry County, Virginia Pers. Prop.
Jerry, are you still working on this Hubbard family? I presume you descend from Eli Hubbard and Lucinda Burnett? I have done lots of research on this Hubbard line going back to Patrick Co., VA and before that, Henry county and Pittsylvania County, Va. I would like to hear from you!
Diane Jones

Jerry,
Thanks for replying. We have been in touch before, haven't we? Also thanks for your lineage. Mine goes back from my dad to his father Miner Hubbard > his father David Allen Hubbard > his father Willis Hubbard > his father John Hubbard (who m. Nancy Weddle) > his father John Hubbard Sr > his father Benjamin Hubbard of Patrick Co., VA. My John Hubbard Sr is the brother of your Jesse Hubbard. My line left Patrick County about 1793 and went to Wilkes, NC for a few years and then to Hawkins, TN. The Matthew Hubbard you mentioned & wife Sibella are in the Robert Hubbard line and we found with DNA analysis that we don't come from Robert Hubbard after all!

We have proved the connection between your Jesse Hubbard and my John Hubbard Sr by DNA. We have 3 testees from various branches of John Hubbard Sr's descendants & one from Jesse. We also have several testees from Thomas Hubbard who was Benjamin Hubbard's brother. We haven't determined who Benjamin & Thomas's father was yet, but we think they might have come from Spotsylvania Co., VA originally, and go back to a Thomas Hubbard who died in 1747 there. Some of the descendants of the younger Thomas Hubbard think their line came from Lancaster Co., VA, but DNA says they did not. If you would like to Y-DNA test, or know any other male Hubbards who would, let me know!

I've done a ton of research in Pittsylvania, Henry and Patrick Counties, so let me know what you would like to know! I can send a genealogy report privately if you like. Do go back to Patrick County if you get a chance - it is beautiful there and the courthouse is a great place to research! There is so much there on Jesse's family that I didn't get into since that isn't my direct line. You'll love it! I concur with Cindy in her message below - if you get to Patrick County, be sure to go to Bassett, VA to the genealogical library there. It is awesome and they are so helpful!
