Hi Tasha,
In your original message you asked if anyone had information about Frank Hubbell. Well, I do. I live in a house that Frank's father (Oliver S. Hubbell) built in 1905. His father was a successful Cleveland businessman in the printing and advertising. Frank had one natural brother James Leslie, and a brother by adoption from his father's second marrage Ted Booth Powers Hubbell. Frank married Eva Jones on Nov. 16, 1915 in New Orleans, LA. They had one child Virginia V. (as you already know). Frank sued for divorce on June 16, 1919. He remarried to Inez Wallace on Nov. 27, 1919. No children by this marriage. They remainded married until his death on Jun. 28, 1962.
If you would like to know more please let me know.
Dave
my direct email is dboeff@scbglobal.net

Hi Dave,

Frank Merrick Hubbell was my maternal great-grandfather. He was married to Eva Bethinia Jones and their daughter (my grandma) was Virginia Valentine Hubbell (Betz). The coupla split after a short marriage and Betz was brought up for a while by her maternal grandmother, then Eva remarried Warmsley Lenhard.

I can ask my mum for more details if it would be helpful.

All the best,

Tasha

Murder of the Oda Hubbell family of Barnard, Missouri

Appears in The Ravia Weekly News, Friday 24, November 1910, Johnston County, Oklahoma

Would you Hang Him on the Testimony of a Dog?

Maryville, Missouri - November 21 - Oda Hubbell, a farmer near Barnard, Missouri, and his wife and two children, were shot and killed at their home last night by an unknown person, who set fire to their home to conceal the crime. Hubbell and his wife were each 30 years of age and the children were Jessie, 6, and Welton, a boy aged four. They constituted the family.

Early last night neighbors heard shots at the Hubbell home, but no one investigated the cause. At midnight it was discovered that the Hubbell house was burning, and all of the people in the neighborhood hurried to assist in extinguishing the flames. When this was accomplished the charred remains of the children were found in bed in their room, and it was evident they had been killed while sleeping. Hubbell's body was found lying on the floor of another room and that of his wife in her bed, where she had probably been shot without warning.

It is believed that Hubbewll had a struggle with the murderer. A pool of blood outside the house indicated that he had been shot there and his body dragged inside after he had been killed.

Hezekiah Roscoe, of Barnard, was arrested later in connection with the crime. The evidence against him is purely circumstantial.

Mob Violence Feared - Hezekiah Roscoe, suspected of the murder of Oda Hubbell, his wife and two children near Barnard, Missouri was conveyed to St. Joseph this evening from Maryville on account of fear of mob violence. He was secretly taken from the jail and spirited to St. Joseph in an automobile. Bloodhounds taken to the scene of the quadruple murder followed a trail to Rosco;s home and entered his room, where some of his garments were found with blood stains on them. The shot also corresponded with those in the gun he had borrowed the day before.

I'll try to find your tree at ancestry. Do you know anything about a Sophronia Hubbell(e)?. I haven't been able to find a thing about her. She was born c. 1852, in Ohio supposedly, according to the census. She married Richard Pryfogle in 1868 in Putnam County, OH, but they moved to Shelby County by 1880, where Richard's brother lived. The Hubbells being in Shelby County makes me think there is a connection between Sophronia, Stineman and the others.

Yes, I am still very interested in the Hubbell and Pirfogle connection. Actually, there are two conenctions: Stineman married Ida Prifogel. They had a daughter, Hanora. I found the three of them in the 1880 census. I can't remember now how I even know Ida is a Prifogle, but I'm certain she is. The second connection is Richard Pryfogle married Sophronia Hubbell in 1868 in Putnam County, OH. They had a daughter, Anna, born 1878. Richard had a son John, age 12, but I don't know if his mother was Sophronia or from Richard's previous marriage. R and S are in Putnam in 1870 and Shelby County, OH in 1880. They disappear after that.
I am interested in any - ANY - details about the Hubbells that relate to Stineman and Sophronia.

Wake Hubbell of Wenton Place, Ohio in 1893

January 7, 1893 Page 2
Accidental Drowning of Wake Hubbell.
Wake Hubbell, of Wenton Place, Ohio, a travelling salesman well known to many Soo people, and the owner of considerable property in this city, was drowned Dec. 28th, near Vienna, Ala., while crossing the Tombigbee river. Mr. Hubbell had been travelling in the South for the firm of Robert Howe, Cincinnati, O., and was on his way from Mobile to Vienna with horses and buggy, accompanied by a negro driver. An attempt was made to ford the river, which was swollen by heavy rains, and the horses, buggy and contents were swept down the stream by the current and Mr. Hubbell met his death. The negro escaped. Mr. Hubbell's untime demise is deeply regretted by many here.

I am not related to this family, just passing on this information I found on a webpage called "Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan - Death Notices." The link for the site is listed below.
Joyce

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/%7Ewjmartin/dem-deth...

Hi Hilbert,
I am still researching my Hubble Hubbell ancestors, and I found a death cert for Daniel. I had always wondered about him, as he was born around the same time Stineman married Martha. Well, his death cert names Martha McCullough (maiden name - she must have also been married before- aka Martha E. Harris), as his mother, not Anna.)
I am still trying to find out what happened to Anna after 1860...It seems that a lot of Hubbells are in Logan Co in 1900 or so - That is where Daniel died.

And she married William Benjamin Weber, (Weaver till moved to Missour with parents.)My pictures are the old type but her eyes are not the dark brown like williams and most of the children. Her hair look a light brown she may of been blonda as a child, for my grandfather and a sister are blonda. And never really turned real dark. But she is from the line you are asking about.

Sullivan Burr Hubbell was my grandfather's brother. He was born 9 Sep 1864, in Hector, Schuyler Co., New York. You can get more information about him and his family from the 1870 Census of Hector, New York; the 1880 Census of Hollister, San Benito County, California (here the name is spelled Hubble); the 1900 Census of San Benito, San Benito County, California; the 1910 census of Santa Cruz Ward 6, Santa Cruz County, California; the 1920 Census of Santa Cruz Ward 5, Santa Cruz County, California, and the 1930 Census of Tres Pinos, San Benito County, California. He is also listed in the California Death Index.

Sullivan came to California with his parents, Monroe and Sarah (Bodle) Hubbell, his sister Lelah, and brother, Monroe Emerson about the year 1875.
His father established the Wells Fargo Ranch on John Smith Road on the southeast edge of Hollister, California. When his father died, Sullivan took over the operation of the ranch. I don't know a lot about Sullivan's activities, but I know that he was President of the California Rodeo in Salinas, California, for several years.

Sullivan's brother, Roy and sister-in-law Ethel, are buried in the I.O.O.F. cemetery in Hollister. There is a stone for his mother right next to Roy's gravestone, but the sextant records of the cemetery say that no one is buried in that grave. Perhaps others in that family had her moved to a different cemetery. There are some Hubbell graves in the Catholic cemetery.

Sullivan's first wife was Sarah Martha Bryant, aka Sally or Allie. She was born 2 Jun 1852 in Missouri, and died 5 Nov. 1922 in Santa Cruz, California. This information about Allie is from her grandson, Donald B. of Pensacola, Florida, the son of their youngest child, Fay.

Sullivan was Allie's second husband. Her first husband was a man surnamed Spitzer.

Sullivan's second wife was Elizabeth, but I have no information on her.

Dorcas Aunger
