Hi Rebecca,
As you can tell from the bulletin board, I did not get a response from Wendy, and there is nothing new to report on Arnold. The only recent Huberts research I've done is to call the only "Hans Huberts" I found in the online German telephone book (telefonbuch.de). Hans was my grandfather's name, and I took a chance on the slim possibility that the "Hans" in Germany might be related. Doesn't appear so.
I can provide you my Hans' Chicago-related info, just in case you find an explanation for your Arnold's last name and you want to check for a connection: Hans Huberts (1876-1923) immigrated from Germany ca. 1896-97, but he didn't settle in Chicago till 1910 or '11. He appears in the 1920 census, the WW-1 draft registration records, and in all the Chicago city directories from ca. 1911 till his death. He was the only Huberts that I could find in Chicago in that timeframe. That's what I find so confounding about your Arnold's "Huberts" name -- it's like it came out of nowhere, unless there was a long-distance adoption or illegitimate birth.
Sorry I can't be of more help right now, but I'm still looking!
Thanks,
Vince

I am very curious to find out more about Arnold Huberts. His son Theodore Huberts is my grandfather. He is living and may be able to solve the mystery of how Arnold got the last name of Huberts. The correct spelling of his middle name would be Louis, as this has been passed down through Theodore, and Theodore Jr., my father.

Hi Wendy,

Thanks for posting your family trees on rootsweb. I was looking for
connections to my Huberts grandfather who lived in Chicago, and I came
across your Arnold KRAUSE HUBERTS. Huberts is such a rare name,
especially in the Chicago area, which is why I had already researched
Arnold a bit, even though I had heard nothing about him from my mom or
aunts.

I have two things for you: first, some data to fill out your info on
Arnold; and second, a question.

I have two records on Arnold, one a death certificate, another the
NUMIDENT report from Social Security Admin., which reflects what's in
their database on him (this info is usually derived from the SS-5
Application for SS Number).

The following is from the death certificate:
Name: Arnold HUBERTS
Date of death: 24 Jun 1940
Place of death: Cook County Hospital, Chicago
Place of burial: St. Mary Cemetery, Evergreen Park, Illinois
Date of birth: 06 Sep 1895
SSN: 355-07-7025
Occupation: laborer for the WPA

The following is from the SSA:
Name: Arnold Louis HUBERTS (note different spelling of middle name)
Born: 06 Sep 1895, Chicago, Illinois
parents: unknown

Now here's my question:
how did Arnold get the last name Huberts? Was he born Krause and adopted by a Huberts family, or vice versa? With so few Huberts in the Chicago area, I don't know how else he could have got his Huberts name except through my grandfather or grandmother.

Thanks in advance for your time and attention.

Regards,
Vince Huening
St. Louis, MO
invinceble_h@yahoo.com

October 12, 1888, Clinton County, IL.

Notes for ANTHONY HUBERT:
Because of possible surname spelling errors I'm posting on this board:
Came to USA to escape the wars in Lorraine. The wars were between France & Germany.

More About ANTHONY HUBERT and MARY HERZOG:
Marriage: May 28, 1849, Belleville, St. Clair County, IL

I'm looking for any more information on these brothers or their decendants. I'm hoping to come across something that will point toward a entry or exit port, boat, town in Alsace/Lorraine....anything will do.
