Hi Ruth

I am a Huberty from Wisconsin and Minnesota. I was to
Dyersville, Iowa and visted with Herbert and his wife
some time ago. They have both passed away now.

I know that there are some Huberty Soda Bottling Company
bottles in the area. You may be able to find some if you
contact antique shops in the area.

Our family was able to find some.

Hope to hear from you soon and good luck with your search.

Janith
Hi

I am married to a Huberty from Saint Paul,Minnesota.

We now reside in River Falls,Wisconsin. A few years ago
friends of ours gave us a bottle from a Huberty Soda
Bottling Company in Dyersville,Iowa.

We traveled to Iowa and met a past owner of the company.
His name was Hubert Huberty. His brother whom he was in
business with was deceased.

He directed us to where the buildings stood in the past,
they had been raised to make way for a bank and parking
lot. The company was famous for their Orange Soda and
Root Beer Soda.

This person we met has now passed on. The Huberty
Bottling Company owners have alot of relatives in the
Dyersville, Iowa area yet. It should be easy to contact
them by phone or a letter.

Hubert told us that the whole family is from the country
of Luxembourg. My husbands family is also from
Luxembourg. When we were there we figured out that we
were not related to each other in the USA. We also
determined that we could have a connection in the past in
Luxembourg. Hubert stated that you just never know.

Contact me if you want more information about the
family. I may have some photos and written information.
We did some research when we were there.

Janith Geiger-Huberty

Your post was several years ago, but I thought I would mention my grandfather was a Dyersville Huberty; Marvin. If I am not mistaken, he was the nephew of the soda companies founder.
He passed in '00. Had several siblings, but I believe the last remaining sister passed a couple of years ago.
I do know that it is a well known name in that area. Many people I went to college with were familiar with the soda.

Hi Ulli,

We've chatted on the Huberty message board before, but I'm responding to some Rothenbach. You indicated in May 2005 that you have a lot of information on my great-grandmother Marie Rothenback (b. April 6, 1905) who married William Huberty. Also, you indicated you have a marriage certificate for Virginia Huberty and John Rothenbach, where William is one of the witnesses. What other kinds of information do you have? I'd love to get copies of these. Thanks , Tricia (partylifer@hotmail.com)

Has Marcella Huberty, 2nd wife or Irvin Huberty, died? I see on the Social Security Index that a Marcella Huberty born on 23 Nov 1913 died 2 Dec 2005. I was wondering if this is her. I didn't have her birth date. Last locale for Social Security was zip code 54937, Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin or North Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

Your great grandparents would be John Babtist Huberty and Mary Ellen Cain. John Babtist Huberty was born 2 Jun 1862 in St.Anne, Town of Russell, Sheboygan, Wisconsin and died 6 Aug 1955 in Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. He married Mary Ellen Cain 28 Jan 1890 Calumet County, Wisconsin. I am still trying to confirm Mary Ellen Cain's birth date. It was about 1867. I also have information on their children, Mae, William, Irvin, Joseph, Jane and Francis. Francis was my grandfather. He died 17 Sep 1997 in Appleton, Wisconsin at the age of 94. I also have a poor photo copy of a booklet "100 Years, The Irvin Huberty Centenial Celebration 1896-1996" You can email me at cjhuberty@hotmail.com

Also see attached photo from the 1910 Census - look for Huberty, John and Mary

John Huberty
Son of Lee Henry Huberty
Grandson of Francis John Huberty
Great grandson of John Babtist Huberty

Sara! I tried to respond to your post looking for Huberty relatives by email but it was returned as 'undeliverable'.
If you are the Sara who is the granddaughter to Irvin and Marcella, then we are related! Your grandfather Irvin Huberty, was my father's uncle and my very favorite Uncle Irvin. We used to visit him on his farm and he would call his pet crow to rest on his arm for us! His son, Irvin, was my father's younger cousin and used to go hunting on occasion, with the group your grandfather got together on the farm (this was in 1968). My father is Jobn Irvin Huberty.

About Great-Aunt Marcella (the second one)... I was unaware she had died, but that would be her. Uncle Irvin died at 100+ a while ago. I heard about it after the fact.
Did you know your Grandmother Marcella used to bake pies for local restaurant (s)? When I came to visit as a child, my mother was concerned we were interrupting her pie-baking obligations, but she always said, "I knew you were coming;it's all cleaned up now!" Irvin and Marcella were the nicest people I know! You may email me at berke_refrigeration@yahoo.com

Another Jason Huberty, I didn't think there was one, but there are at least two. I am of the Huberty family in Wisconsin. My father is the 2nd of 11 children most of whom have kids. Our ancestors are of German and Austrian ancestry who came to the US in the late 1800s. I don't think we are related to the Belgium Hubertys. My understanding is that Huberty is a German surname. If you like, I can provide more genealogy information on our family.

Hi Christian,

My great-grandmother was Elizabeth (Eliese) Huberty (Huberti) who married George Moritz in Luxembourg in the 1880s. She was born about 1865. He was born about 1861. They had, I believe, 11 children, one of which was my grandmother, Anna Barbara Moritz. Anna immigrated to the United States via Ellis Island in 1904.

I have been unable to trace Elizabeth any further back. Do we have any connection? Thanks for any help!

Linda Robinson

My name is Judy (Huberty) Berke. Your grandfather was my Great-Uncle (a great favorite of mine). Aunt Marcella was a great pie baker and made pies for restaurants, as you know, I'm sure. I know the sad story about the first wife's death.

My father, John Irvin Huberty was his nephew by William & Gertrude Rose (Wahlgenbach) Huberty. We used to visit him and he'd show us his pet crow that perched above the back door. His cousin, Irvin, went hunting with us one time and had to escort me back home because I was purposely scaring the deer away (to save them)! We would visit Uncle Leo across the street also.

Was Irvin your father? He was single last time I saw him at age 12. Do you live in Fond du Lac?

There are alot of Huberty's in Wisconsin...Milwaukee, Fond du Lac, East Troy (Robert Huberty's children, my dad's brother).

I think we are second cousins, if I'm figuring right. My dad was first cousin to Irvin, so that would make us 2nd cousins.

I tried to email you, but it came back. My father, John Irvin Huberty, used to take us kids to visit him and also Uncle Leo across the street. We traveled up and down the road visiting relatives (some over 100 years old). My dad wanted us to meet them before they died. They all had farms and had helped each other get in the crops.
Here's my family history. UBERTI came to USA, didn't want to be associated with the Italian Mussolini, so they popped an "h" in front of the "u" and changed the 'i' to a 'y'. Hence, Huberty which now sounds German. However, this backfired during WWII and hitler....

I have found Huberty spelled Huberti within the same name. Also oral family history told to by Dad the name Huberty is Luxumbourg, Belgium, Italian, and something else I can't remember. 2nd cousin I had never met before history was the same and he knew he was Italian (though he looked German). My father and one of his sister's looked Italian with wavy black hair and olive skin. His other brother and sister were blondes!

Re: origin of huberty surname?

My father gave us this oral history confirmed when I met Wayne Huberty (Wayne's grandfather was my father's Uncle Nick, whom my brother was named for but we never met because he died before we were born). Dad told us we were Belgium, Luxembourg, Italian and I can't remember what else. He told us that the name was actually UBERTI, but when they got to America they added an 'H' [not found in the Italian language], and changed the 'I' to a 'Y'. Now the name was HUBERTY and sounded German, instead of Italian. Which was what they wanted because they did not want to be Italian due to Mussolini. Now during WWII, they sounded German, but knew they were not, but got hit with Hitler!

Now when I met Wayne, he said, "I bet you think your German! Most Huberty's don't know the history and think they are German, when they are actually Italian!" But I did know I was Italian. The oral history handed down by his grandfather was the same one my father handed to me. So either my dad's father (William Huberty & Gertrude Rose Huberty) told it to him, or his Uncle (Nicholas & Gertrude Huberty)told it to him.

Now even if I didn't know this I could surmise my father was Italian by looking at him. He resembles Robert De Niro - black wavy hair, olive skin...my dad's sister, Mary Huberty (Schaub) also has hair and skin like my dads. However, my dad's brother, Robert Huberty, and his one of his cousin's have blond hair! That's not Italian blood!! But if you get my family together, they don't act stuffy like Germans! They are loud, fun-loving, and rumbunctious like Italians. So that's all I know. I wish I had paid more attention to the stories...but they instilled in me family pride. Dad died so I can't ask him.

But what I do remember him telling we was this: 3 UBERTI brothers crossed over by ship in the 1800's. The story goes that they got drunk on the ship and by the time they got off, 2 were speaking and 1 was not. I'm thinking the fight might have been about where they wanted to Located in WI, the other went to MN. The 3rd brother located in CA. My dad told us kids if we ever got to CA, to look the relation up!~

I found on the internet the name Huberty spelled as Huberti within the same family! They weren't too picky on how they spelled it...and I found a picture of a guy selling stuff on-line with the name UBERTI who has the same exact receding hairline as my oldest son (age 32)... it was like looking at a head-shot of him!

My dad's cousins in Fond du Lac, WI name was Rausch which I found in Luxembourg on the link below. Check it out and see if we are related; I bet we are. That's why I emailed you after reading your posts.

The Huberty's show up about half-way down the page. Have a happy new year.
http://www.visi.com/~bormann/bormann_genealogy.htm

Just responding to the inquiry about the California Hubertys. My great great grandfather emigrated from Luxembourg when he was 23, arriving in New York around 1852. What his home town was in Luxembourg, what language he spoke, who his family was, and what he did in New York--I would love to know. He arrived in Mokelumne Hill, San Andreas County in 1854. He married Mary Theresa Burckhart (sp?) Jan 13 1859. They had 5 children:
Augustus John
Adam
Mark A.
Joseph
Mary T. (Mrs Huberty died after giving birth to this child)

John sent for his sister, Elizabeth Schannen (Schanen?) and husband in Luxembourg to come to California to help him with the children after Mary's death. His father George came with them.(born 23 Feb 1792 in Echternach, Luxembourg--I think)
There was reference to his brothers: Cornelius and George
?????
Second wife: Hannorah (Hanora?) Water Donovan (born 1834; married 1867 in San Andreas [some places refer to her as Hanora Collins Griffin????]
Children: John
George
Elizabeth
Frank--had 6 children
Katie
Hanora
Please fill in the details if you have them

Augustus John Huberty had 4 children:
Ellen Teresa
John Augustus
Walter Raymond
Martin Richard (my father)

We have a Katie (Catherine Joan Huberty known as kate) Huberty who was child of John Huberty and Hanora Collins Griffen .(second wife for John--my great great grandfather) Our records show she married an Oliver and died at the Huberty ranch in San Andreas 1894.
Can you give me any further information?

Deborah
Do you know where in Luxembourg the Hubertys came from? Do you have any genealogy earlier than John Huberty? I know his father's name was George but no info on wife or other children. I believe John had a brother name Cornelius but no one knows what happened to him after he left California. Any info would be helpful.
aduncan701@yahoo.com
