What I have shows that Drury was born in VA in 1742 and dies in VA in 1807. The only child I have is James who moved on to what is now White County, TN. This may not be your Drury a sit seems to have been a common name in both the Hudgens and Hudgins families.

I am searching for information on the william D. Hudgens family. William's daughter Martha married Daniel Huskey.
I have found that William's father was believed to be John Hudgens born in 1758 in England and I have also found that this John Hudgens was the son of Drury Hudgens. Does anyone have any concrete information that this John Hudgens was actually Drury's son or is this John a different line completely.

Milton Madison Hudgens, born in Waynseville, Pulaski County, Missouri, August 8, 1859 would be 150 years old this August. Myself and some of his other descendants are planning to go to his birthplace on that date (which is a Saturday) and to the cemetery where he's buried on the following day. He and his wife, Mary Jane (Wrathee), are buried at the Byron Cemetery nine miles south of Salem. I know there's not much notice, but if any other descendants would like to join us, the more the merrier!

Here is what I have on the Taylor and Edmund, who I assume was his brother. Taylor was also known as Buck.

The July 18, 1888 issue of the Healdsburg Enterprise has a story of the death of Taylor Tombs, more familiarly known as "Buck" died at the residence of F. Tombs on Dry Creek on Sunday evening of consumption. In the days of the rebellion he was held by the Tombs family as a slave and the attachment between master and servant became so strong that the idea of a separation could not be thought of. When the family moved to this state they brought Taylor with them and having been in the family thirty two years, he was considered a member of the household. His death is sincerely mourned by those among whom he associated so long. The remains were interred in Oak Mound Cemetery on Tuesday.

The Russian River Flag, Healdsburg, Ca Nov 20, 1873 issue gave a list of Sonoma county Tax Assessors list of Owners and Acerage. One listed was Tombs Bro. 500 acres.

Russian River Flag, October 23, 1879

Died near Healdsburg, October 24, 1879, Edmond Tombs aged 26 years, native of Missouri. Deceased was a colored boy who came to Healdsburg with the Tombs family when he was four years old. He always bore a good character.

Sonoma County Tribune, July 21, 1888
Died at Dry Creek Valley, July 15, 1888, Buck Tombs, a colored man, well known and much respected throughout this county, died at his home on Dry Creek last Sunday, consumption the cause.

We would expect a death certificate to have the correct information but I have found that is not always the case. The 1860 census is Curtis Hudgens, age 26, Mary, age 19,(17?), Josephine, 3 and William, 5 months, Ramah, Montgomery Co., Ala. They were all born in Alabama. William and Mary Jane were married in Montgomery Co., AL on 18 Dec 1855.I don't have any other children so I'm sure my info needs to be updated. Your information on William will certainly help me to do that.

Thomas J. Hudgens and Carolyn W. Anson were married about 1865. Their children were Emiline, 1868, John Ed, 1870, Amanda E., 1871, James P., 1874, and Mary J., 1876. My records show they were all born in Arkansas.

I would love to share our information. John Hudgens, born 2 May 1806, GA; died 18 Jun 1873 in Ramer, AL and Mary "Polly" Hannah Courtney, born 7 Apr 1807, in Orangeburg District, SC and died 04 Nov 1879 in Ramer. I have a Joseph B. Curtis Hudgens, born 26 Jan 1833 married Mary Jane Ellison on 18 Dec 1855 in Montgomery Co., AL. Joseph had a brother, Thomas J. who married Carolyn W. Anson in 1867. Thomas and Carolyn's children were all born in Arkansas. None are named William. Joseph B Curtis and Mary Jane Ellison Hudgens had a son William born about 1859 in Ramer. I also have a sister for William, Josephine, born about 1856.
Could this be your William Clopton? If so I have information to share. Elizabeth Matilda Hudgens, their sister was my great grandmother. She married Peyton Enzor on 2 Aug 1865. Their parents were John Hudgens and Mary Polly Hannah Courtney, married 1826 in Montgomery Co.,AL. Mary

Hudgens Family in Kentucky

One of my great grandfathers, James B. Carter, wrote his life story. In it he mentions a great grandfather Hudgens, who he met only once, and that was when they were moving from Cumberland County, Kentucky to Warrick County, Indiana about 1849. This grandfather Hudgens was about 96 years old at the time and lived to be over 100 years. James' parents were Green Carter and Frances Hawkins. Grandfather Hudgens was from his mother's side of the family. My Carter family moved from near Burkitsville, in Cumberland County and made a good days trip on the first day out. It was the morning of the second day, when they stopped for lunch, that they reached Grandfather Hudgens home. Does anyone have a Hudgeons male who lived to be over 100 years old? Hampton Hamilton Hudgens and Eliza Waller are my 3 G grandparents. They had 12 children. Their second son, Charles, was born Nov 20, 1848 in Sparta, White Co., TN. My records show a wife Clary Jane ?, and 7 children. I haven't figured out how to get FTM to save as a Gedcom I can attach so I'll send you what I have be email. It runs about 38 pages with sources.

My grandmother was Ruth Lula Hudgens, grandaughter of Charles' brother Merrill Doyle.

Seeking the parents of William J. Hudgens born 1840 in SC.

William J. Hudgens is found living in Arkabutla, DeSoto County, MS in 1870. His wife is named Martha Elizabeth EVANS; they married on 11 Sep 1867 in DeSoto County MS.
In the 1870 census his name is misspelled as HUGGINS.

William J. Hudgens was the bondsman for my ggGrandparent's Michael William Shanahan and Sallie Margaret Potter's marriage record on 12 Nov 1868 (again in DeSoto County MS).

I'm thinking that the father of William J. Hudgens may be the Henry J. Hudgens who appears in the following census record:

I think we may connect. I got the Thomas from a copy of the death certificate of my great-grandfather William Clopton Hudgens who died in Phoenix Arizona. He went there for his health. It listed his parents as Thomas Hudgens and
Jane Ellison. My great-uncle Maynard Hudgens went to Phoenix when he died and had him buried, there. He might have had the wrong name for the father.

Ark Census 1900-Woodruff County-Cache Township lists William C. Hudgens, Head, 39 yrs born Ala. 1860 (This is also the date on the death certificate),born in Ramer, Ala. and his wife Ella, b. 1866 in Dublin?Dothan, Alabama
Children: I thought they were born in Ala. I believe it's Ala. on my grand-father Rubye Lee Hudgens death certificate but I can't put my hands on it. My great-grandmother was Ella Soles.
1. Maynard, son b. 1891
2. Rubye, son b. 1892
3 Marie, dau b. 1899, and
also living with them,
Mary J. Ellison Hudgens b. Oct. 1839
The Ala. address was Tucker's Store.

In later census is Mary Soles, nee Hudgens, born Ala. head of household
son Leo Soles, age 16 (my grandfather always said he was a double 1st cousin, so I'm assuming her husband was Ella's brother, and living with them was Mary J. Huggins, age 70 years. Leo also had a sister, I think or she could have been a sister of his mother who married a Tyrone and lived in Tyronza. I'm at a standstill unless we can connect. All my dad's brothers and he are dead and at this point I suppose I'm the matriarch of our group of Hudgens and Maynard's family is all gone except for some grandkids that I don't know.

That's all the information I've been able to come up with. I would really like to share any info with you.

CHESTER THOMPSON, JR., an honest and industrious young farmer of Coweta county, was born in Henry county, Ga., in 1851. His father, Chester Thompson, was the son of a revolutionary soldier, and was born in Jasper county, Ga., and himself volunteered in the late war, but was rejected.

This man married Miss Mary Ann Hudgens, daughter of William and Martha Hudgens, Virginians by birth, the father being a soldier of the revolution.

The young Chester Thompson was reared in Heard county, and had no school privileges, his parents needing his care and support, and his life has been full of arduous toil.

In 1880 he married Melissa Story, who was born and reared in Pike county, and whose parents, James and Martha Story, are also Georgians by birth. Mrs. Thompson is a faithful member of the Baptist church. To her and her husband three children have been given, of whom but two are living:
Mattie Pearl and Jessie.

Marriage of George Washington HUDGENS [HUDGINS] and Martha Bishop, 18 January 1842, Fulton County, Georgia...

Believe these two, Henry H. & George Washington HUDGENS [HUDGINS] are brothers, and both are sons of Benjamin HUDGENS [HUDGINS], born 1793, in South [North] Carolina.

Benjamin and Henry H. HUDGENS [HUDGINS] were neighbors in GMD 734, Campbell County, Georgia, during the enumeration of the 1840 US Federal Census.

Both Henry H. HUDGENS and George Washington HUDGENS had sons named BENJAMIN HUDGENS.....

This Benjamin HUDGENS had four (4) sons by 1840, and four (4) daughters, was married, and was living in GMD 734, Campbell County, Georgia;

by 1850, both sons, Henry H. and George Washington HUDGENS, were married, were farmers, and both were living in Campbell County, Georgia....

We suspect this Benjamin HUDGENS to be one of the thirteen children born to North Carolina Revolutionary War Veteran, William HUDGENS, and his wife, Martha -----.

Searching for the graves of Chesley [sometimes Chestley] THOMPSON, b. 1804, and his wife, Mary Ann[E] Polly HUDGENS, b. 1813 Upson County, Georgia;

he is thought to have professed Methodist;

he is thought to have been a minister;

he may have been a Mason;

they were last enumerated living in the Dist. 103, GMD 534 area of Pike County, Georgia, June 1880, in the household of their son, Chesley/Chestley THOMPSON, b. 1851, and his wife, Malissa Ann STORY, daughter of James & Martha STORY/STOREY....

he was last enumerated at age 73;

she was last enumerated at age 64;

seeking any information about this family....
