1. LEONARD5 HUFF (SAMUEL4, LEONARD3, WILLIAM2, DERRICK PAULUSZEN1 HOFF) was
born 1782 in Bedford Co. Va, and died 1851 in Butler Co. Ky. He married NANCY
B SCRUGGS 05 Oct 1799 in Jackson Co. TN. She was born 1784 in Virginia, and
died in Butler County, Ky.
Notes for LEONARD HUFF:
Leonard served in the War of 1812 from JACKSON County TN in Capt. James
Hollman's Co.,Col. J. K. Wynne's Regt., of the West TN Militia. He moved to
Butler Co. KY , About 1844 with several family members and neighbors. He
received land grants in 1846 for 100 acres and in 1850 for 200 acres on Big
Reedy Creek.

Notes for THOMAS CARSON HUFF:
Thomas moved from Jackson Co. TN to Edmonson Co. KY abt 1813/14. He lived in Edmonson
County until the 1860's at which time he moved to Warren County, KY. He was in Warren
County, KY at the time of his daughter Saarah's marriage in 1870. He married there in 1874 and
was in Warren County for the 1880 census. He apparently missed the 1870 census. Thomas first
appeared on the Warren County tax list in 1867. He was on the 1884 list but not on the 1886 list.
The 1884 tax list indicated Thomas had just about quit farming. He had 3 children 6 years of age.
Kentucky-Edmonson County court minutes;
April 5, 1852 on the motion of Samuel Woosley, Nancy Huff, widow of Lenard Huff deceased,
having relinquished her right to administer, letters of administration is granted the the said
Woosley of the estate intrests and credits of said Leonard Huff took the oath required by law, who
together with P. Raymer, J.S. Jones, Thomas Huff entered into law acknowledged bond unto the
commonwealth of Kentucky in the sum of $1000.00 conditioned according to law. Sept. 8, 1852
on the motion of Amuel Woosley, letter of Administration are granted him good chattles, rights
and credits of Nancy Huff deceased, who thereupon entered into and ACKNOWLEDGED BOND
WITH THOMAS HUFF IN THE SUM OF $400.00 conditioned accordint to law.
March 1, 1858 Samuel Willis and Thomas Huff who were appointed at a former term of this court
to report on proposed changes to be maded in Brownsville and Cloverport road over the lands of
James C Dotson this day made report which in ordered to be filed. It is further ordered that said
road be changed as proposed in said report.
April 5, 1858 it is ordered that Thomas Huff be appointed surveyer of now Cut road from the
Cloverport road above W.J. Nash to Pias Cesel and that he have the following hands, Daniel
Henderson, J.C. Dotson, and hands James Huff, A. Minto, A. Willis, Walker Nash, Bluford
Tomes, and hands Anderson Minton, John Medcraft.
Warren County, KY Tax record Thomas Huff 1867-2 horses/mares, 10 cattle { $50 }, 1 white
male over 21, 2 children between 6 and 20, 150 lbs tobacco 500 bushel corn.
1868- had land , 2 horses/mares { $150 } , 5 cows { $50 }, 1 white male over 21, 5 children
between 6 and 20, 6 hogs over 3 months old, 200 bushel corn.
1869-80 acres land { $300 }, 2 horses/mares { $150 }, 5 cows { $50 }, 1 white male over 21, 5
children between 6 and 20, 6 hogs over 6 months old.
1870-100 acres land { $100 }, 2 horses/mares { $150 } , 1 cow { $20 } , shiter male over 21, 6
children between 6 and 20, 15 hogs over 6 months old, 200 bushel corn.
Tax records indicate Thomas,s farm lay North of Barren River and West of Louisville and
Nashville Turnpike.
