I have just seen your message and two other earlier ones. My wife's maiden surname was HULLS. Her father was Albert W.Hulls, b - 1902. This man had 3 sisters and one brother. The brother's name was Jonathon E. Hulls and the sister's names were, as we knew them, Edith, Lillian and Grace. My father-in-law and his family always said they were descended froma a Jonathon Hulls who had a patent for a steam tug from Elizabeth the First. I have tried to trace my wife's family back, but have been unable to find out what his father's name was. His mother apparently had married a second time and they knew her only as Grandma Jessop (?), not even a first name.He did mention at one time he had a cousin still living in the Birmingham area, but that was some 46+ years ago, as he died in July 1962. I am in Canada.
My email address is gra69ls3ja@yahoo.ca

Dear Jackie
Thank you for your reply. I am working on trying to find the connection between Sydney Hulls (promoter) and my great grandfather. I will have more info after I visit his elderly granddaughter (82) in Canada later this year. I will keep you posted.
Regards
Bettina

My father is Anthony Owen Hulls whose father was Sydney Hulls the Boxing promoter around the 1930's-1940's. My father's brother is also Sydney Hulls and he was a Boxing journalist for a national paper in England. He is now retired.
I think there may be a definite connection here.
Regards

Regarding the message you posted in February 2003, my great-grandfather was Richard Alfred Barton Hulls born 1856 who I believe was related to Sydney Hulls the boxing promoter. Richard's parents were James Hulls and Mary Anne (nee Rowe). Do any of these names ring a bell?

Hi Glynis. I note that you are interested in Frederick Wallace Hulls. He was, in fact, a younger brother of my grandfather, Willam Francis Hulls. I believe that makes you my 2nd cousin.
The whole family were born and raised in Ware. As far as I am aware Frederick Wallace Hulls had about 13 children. I don't know how many are still alive, but I know that one of his sons died recently in Australia. I am in contact with one of his daughters, Win, who lives in Ware.
I do have much more information which, if you are able to contact me, I will pass on to you.
I saw that you have an ancestor named Jonathan Hulls. I believe that I am also related. I have an old encyclopedia which has a picture of him. He patented a sort of steamboat in England in 1736. I also believe that my g.g. grandfather was one of the first boxing referees in Great Britain and my grandfather was a boxing promoter.

Jacqueline Hulls
