Hi Carrie, I know it has been awhile since you have posted this message but I am hoping you are still active in genealogy. My husband and children are direct descendants of William and Barbara as well. I am having a problem finding information on Barbara's family. Many on ancestry has George (1650) listed as James's father which can not be correct, he most likely he is James's brother. Can you help me?
I hope to hear from you soon,
Sweetcandyt
Candy

Looking for father of Eva Pierce who married Michael Grant Hume

My great great grandmother, Mary E. Sisson(maiden name) married James Reed & then married unknown Pierce (possibly John?) who I believe was born in Indiana, but they were not married very long. (After unknown Pierce, she married unknown Wright & then Henderson Utley.) Mary Sisson Reed & unknown Pierce had only 1 child that I am aware - Eva Pierce, born 1876, Indiana. (Eva Pierce married Michael Grant Hume.) In my grandmother's photos was a picture of Ray Vaughn Pierce of New York, son of Duane Pierce & Mary Morse, so feel like my unknown Pierce family is somehow linked to the Duane Pierce lineage. If you have ANY information, please email me at dmoon-taylor@sbcglobal.net Thanks.

Hi Gail,
Many thanks for your message.
I would indeed like to be in touch with Jessie. My recent DNA test for family tree matters of course, has informed me that I have a match with both Ireland and Scotland. Although my only two names are both HUMES, plus the nearest one which is Alexander, all very strange. So at the moment Ireland around the 1700's seems to be quite important, especially Castle Hume, or Hume Castle.
thanks again
regards
John Hume

Her name was Sarah McCartney, she grew up in a small town outside Edinburgh, emigrated to Canada shortly before the Titanic sailed.

Yes, these are two different women. 'Emigrant' George Home (1698-1760) married Elizabeth Proctor (1700-?) in 1727. Rev. George Hume (1755-1826) married Elizabeth Procter (1755-1796) in 1781. To confuse things even more, both Elizabeths had a father named George. It is uncertain if they were related.
Re: Hume Coat of Arms, House of Wedderburn

This past June, I went to Scotland and stayed at Wedderburn Castle. Not in the Castle but in the Keepers Cottage which is in the stables. It was very nice. I have attached a picture. In the Castle is a framed cloth coat of arms. I took a picture (attached) but it did not turn out very good. There is also a coat of arms over the castle portical (attached). The current castle was built in the late 1700's on the site of the old tower castle. The current owner, David Hume-Miller, thinks part of the new castle incoperates part of the old castle in the rear. There is a very weathered coat of alms on the rear wall. I've attached a picture of it also. You may want to cantact Paxton House which is were the Wedderburn Humes lived until a few years ago when they gave it to the Scottish Historical Society. http://www.paxtonhouse.co.uk/ They maintain it and open it to the public. They have a full time research historian there who might be able to get you a clear picture of the coat of arms. Also there is a men's store in Kelso owned by Archi Hume he may be able to put you on tract of a ring. http://ahume.co.uk/default.asp?off=1 Hope this helps.

My grandfather, Ellsworth Hume moved from Marian Co. Indiana to Oklahoma in 1890's via Kansas. He participated in the Last Great Land Rush into the Cherokee Strip and claimed a farm east of Garber, Garfield Co. Oklahoma. About 1910 he moved his family about 40 miles west to Enid, Oklahoma the county seat of Garfield County. He subsequently was elected a county commissioner and sheriff, was an automobile dealer, and raised six children. His father was a Baptist minister in Indiana and later in Clearwater, Kansas. HIs name was Ambrose Coleman. I have traced the family back to Scotland. You can check out my "Hume Family" Tree which is public.

Hello;

I have listed my information many times here to no avail but thought I'd try again.

I am searching for any information on my Ggrandfather John George NICHOLSON b.1874 Newcastle, Northumberland, Eng. d.sometime after 1901 but not sure where. m.Anne Richardson BROWN b.1879 Newcastle, Northumberland, Eng.

John's parents were James Patterson NICHOLSON & Frances HUME both b.Newcastle, Eng.

John George NICHOLSON was born in England but traveled to PA at around 1895 and married Anne Richardson BROWN 1896 in Scranton, PA. Anne who was also born in England had been living in PA since around 1882. I do believe her parents Richard Morris BROWN & Hannah Hodgson RICHARDSON knew John's family but have not been able to figure out the connection. Otherwise, why would John travel all the way to PA to marry Anne and then move back to England. On the ships manifest for John it lists Richard Morris BROWN as a friend and that John was marrying his daughter.

John George NICHOLSON & Anne Richardson BROWN had 3 children. All of which were born in Newcastle, Eng.

John William NICHOLSON b.1896
Richard Morris NICHOLSON b.1898
James Patterson NICHOLSON b.1900 (my grandfather)

Around 1901 after the England census was taken where they were located in Westgate Durham England they are found on a ships manifest going back to PA to Anne's family. Later in 1909 all the boys were placed in a Children's home in Pittsburgh due to the parents death. John William NICHOLSON is located in the 1910 census living in Mahoning, Indiana, PA with a Samuel CALHOUN b.1879 PA, his wife Fannie B CALHOUN b.1882 PA, and daughter Catherine B CALHOUN b.1909 PA.

Richard Morris NICHOLSON is located in the 1910 Census in Plum, Allegheny, Pa with a John DIENENGER or DEMINGER b.1853 Germany, wife Margaret C and their 5 children; Elizabeth, William, Catherine, Emma & Lorena.

James Patterson NICHOLSON is located in the 1910 Census in Unity, Westmoreland, PA with a Steel McCHESNEY b.1860 PA, wife Ellen and their 3 children; Glenn, Catherine & Andrew.

Eventually John, Richard & James all ended up in the Erie or Chemung county of NY.

If you have any information on these NICHOLSONS or any of the other families listed above I would love to hear from you.

Thank you.

I am trying to trace the relations of Martin Andrew Sharp (Hume)
He was an author ,born London 8th December 1843 was the second son of William Lacy Sharp of East India Co and married Louisa Charlotte Hume in 1840.
A branch of his mothers family had settled in Madrid Spain towards the end of the 18th Century. The last of the Spanish Humes a lady advanced in years died in 1876 bequeathing her property to Martin Sharp, and in August 1877 in compliance with her wish, he assumed the name of Hume.
If anyone has any knowledge of the Spanish – Hume side of this family I would be very grateful.
George Hume / Elizabeth Proctor

I am decended from Lewis Hume the son of the Rev. George Hume, grandson of John Hume of Culpepper VA, the ggrandson of George Hume the immigrant to America. My problem... I show, from various sources including this message board, Elizabeth Protor being the spouse of both George the Immigrant and the Reverend George of Indiana.

Try as I will, my imagination just won't let me belief that Eliz. Proctor was both the mother of Lewis Hume, and the grandmother of him as well.

Is there a simple explanation? Am I missing something somewhere? Are these two distinct women? If so, do they have a common lineage?

Help please

Re: George Hume / Elizabeth Proctor

James,

I am trying to link a James M. Hume born 1822 in Tennessee to the Humes of Virginia. I have been unable to locate anything that connects the two, but I suspect the link has to be there. James M. Humes married Eliza Kitts in Tennessee. They had 10 children. The first five were born in Tennessee and the latter five were born in Kentucky. James M. Humes appears to have died in Monroe County, Kentucky. James would have been my great great great great grandfather.

Thank you for any assistance.

Alvis Hall Hume published the book Hume: From East Tennessee to Southern Kentucky which speculates that this line of the Humes migrated from Virginia to North Carolina and then to Tennessee.

Do you have any information that my help in making this connection?

Thanks.

Reverend George Hume

Who was Rev. George Hume's father? I have a copy of the book "History of the Hume Family" by John Robert Hume and it says his father was William Hume, son of Emigrant George Hume. BUT many other trees say his father is John Hume, son of Emigrant George Hume. Is there any proof of who his parents are?
