Helen Humes, 80, of Mahanoy City, passed away Friday afternoon at ManorCare, Pottsville.
Born in and a lifelong resident of Mahanoy City, she was a daughter of the late Raymond W. and Blanche E. Reese Hughes.
She was a 1946 graduate of Mahanoy City High School and had been employed by AT&T for 37 years as an operator and last as a computer operator.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Mahanoy City.
She was a life member of the telephone Pioneers of America, the Mahanoy City Senior Citizens and the Mahanoy City High School Alumni Association.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband, Harold J. Humes, in 2001, and a sister, Ruth Zernosky, in 2000.
Surviving are a sister, Kathryn Petrey, Perryville. Md.; nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and -nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral at 11 a.m. Tuesday from David D. Jarrett Funeral Home, Second and Pine streets, Mahanoy City. The Rev. Dr. John H. Reid will officiate. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday. There will be no calling hours Monday evening. Interment will be in Sky View Memorial Park, Hometown. Contributions in Helen's name to St. Paul's United Church of Christ would be appreciated by the family and will be accepted at the funeral home.
