Looking for/sharing info on John and Frances ( ELLIS) HUMPHRIES. They were my 5th Great Grandparents through their daughter Sarah "Sally" who married Solomon WEBBER.

This family was researched in depth by Edythe WHITLEY. Ms. Whitley was a Genealogist-Historian from Nashville, TN. There is a collection of her work at the State Library of TN in Nashville. The collection contains information and records of several thousand different Humphrey families in the South. The info comes from both Public and Private records.

I have a copy of her report on the family of William HUMPHREY/HUMPHRIES of South Carolina produced in the mid 1950's. This William was the father of above John HUMPHRIES. The report on this branch of the Humphrey family is very detailed-- in it she references several public records as well as interviews with descendants of this family that were living in NC/SC in the early 1950's.

I also have copies of the some of the documents that are mentioned in this report including the entire Rev War file ( W 4000) for William Humphreys which names the oldest of John's children.

In this report there are several mentions of William HUMPHRIES son of John and grandson of William. There are also a number of mentions of him in the Rev Pension file of his grandfather. Ms. Whitley has in her report that William HUMPHRIES married Elizabeth ( known by family as Betsey) McCraw, daughter of Samuel McCraw.
This is verified by the will of Samuel McCraw where he names wife Susannah and among his daughters--Betsey Humphries-and grandchildren Lucinda, Raney and Polly Ann HUMPHRIES. dated Jan 28, 1840. ( Rutherford County, NC will book 1834-68 pg 64)

MaryAnn ( PollyAnn) bn 1828 mentioned in grandfather John HUMPHRIES will of 1850.

Lucinda bn 1829 also mention in John's will.

Arranah (aka Bite or Ranny) bn 1830 mentioned in will of John.

Jesse bn 1831. Not mentioned in the will. Is found in the 1850 census in William's household. Said by Mrs. Jolley (HUMPHRIES descendant) to have made a trip to Texas. Returned to SC, died and is buried in Camp Creek Baptist Cemetery.
