Hi

Just wondered how your Hunkin research was going. I'm researching the name myself and I hope we can link our lines together one day. My site is below:

Hello Clarence,
I came across your 2002 message on roots web. From the little bit I have done on the family, Joseph Henry HUNKIN was the third child of William John HUNKIN and Juliana Pitt MEREDITH. Have you been successful in your research since 2002? I believe Juliana Pitt MEREDITH to be a daughter of William MEREDITH (born 1806 in Peter Church, Herefordshire, England to James MEREDITH Sr. and Elizabeth Pitt, my ancestors). Would like to correspond with you about ancestry of Juliana, particularly any family history or details of research that may help. Juliana Pitt MEREDITH was christened/baptized in 1831 in Hay, Breconshire, Wales. She had a younger sister Caroline Pitt MEREDITH. It is possible that these two girls were orphaned by the time of the 1841 census. Further it appears they are the two children of deceased William MEREDITH that are mentioned in will of his uncle James Pitt Jr. that was written in 1840. William MEREDITH was buried in 1836 in Clyro, Radnorshire, Wales. Both Hay and Clyro are just across the border and river from Cusop, Herefordshire, England where the couple that is believed to be parents of William MEREDITH lived and perhaps farmed, though they were buried in Clyro at same church as William. This week a HUNKIN descendant indicated that William John HUNKIN, his wife Juliana Pitt MEREDITH HUNKIN, and family went to South Africa about 1882. (The family is on census in Marazion, Cornwall, England for 1861, 1871, and 1881 census records.) Some of the children married and remained in Marazion while others married and remained in South Africa.

Hello Ruth,
Came across your message of May 2006 while searching for Merediths and was interested in your mention of the PITT MEREDITHS. I have a connection to a George Alfred PITT Meredith. Other than I know he was in S. Africa pre 1909 when he got married in England I know very little about him. I believe he was probably in his 40s(or older) when he married and he and his wife had no children of their own but they, adopted my mother hence my interest.Do you know if there is any connection to your PITT Merediths?

Hi Ruth

I am building a tree for the South African Hunkin family and came across your interesting email. Please contact me directly at griffrob@telkomsa.net.

I have had access to the Hunkin family bible and several descendant families.

Regards
Robin

Not sure if I responded to your message about George Alfred Pitt MEREDITH.

My first Pitt ancestor was James Pitt who married Eleanor JOHN in 1770. They lived in areas served by the Clodock Parish in Herefordshire, England.

Their daughter Elizabeth Pitt married James MEREDITH in 1805. At time of their death they were living in Cusop, Herefordshire, England. They had had least one child with middle name of Pitt and surname of MEREDITH. In succeeding generations this was a common practice, to have at least one child with middle name of Pitt before the surname MEREDITH. I wonder if this is because so few of the Pitt children had children.

Have come across some MEREDITH descendants in Australia. So finding one in South Africa is not impossible. Have you found more about George since you posted message? I DO NOT have George Alfred Pitt MEREDITH in my database.

Robin,
I am very interested in the tree you are building for HUNKIN families in South Africa. Have written to you separately at e-mail you indicated.
