Amy/Ann/Anne Standish and Simon Huntington

About two generations before me, it was written that my family is related to Amy Standish and Simon Huntington, m. 13 Dec 1734. In Connecticut marriage records I have found Ann Standish m. Simon Huntington, 13 Dec 1734, and I have also seen a reference to Anne Standish with the same marriage date. Can anyone clear this up for me? Was is Amy or Ann/Anne?
The children I have for Amy/Ann Standish and Simon Huntington are:
Elizabeth Huntington, b. 05 Dec 1735; d. 03 Dec 1738
Ruth Huntington, b. 19 Apr 1738; d. aft. 1798
Simon Huntington, b. 02 Dec 1740
Elizabeth Huntington, b. 12 June 1743
They were all born in Connecticut.
Does anyone have more descendants for Standish and Huntington? It is possible that the son, Simon, is my 5 greats grandfather. So far, we have been unable to trace the line so it might not be the correct 'Simon Huntington'.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Mary

Looking for information on the parents and any siblings for William Huntington. William was born 8/8/1844 in Philadelphia, PA, son of William Huntington and Elizabeth (unknown last name). His father was probably born in Pennsylvania and his mother was born in Connecticut. According to the census, they were not married before the 1840 Census and appear not to be listed on the 1850 Census. William was listed in Hartfort, CT in 1850 working as a blacksmith for Henry Weller. William joined as a private in Company "L", 1st Regiment of the Connecticut Heavy Artillery and fought in the Civil War. William mustered out in 1865. He went to Jefferson, NH, where he met and married Sarah Hight. They traveled across country and settled in Ukiah, CA.

David Low HUNTINGTON & Martha Annie ALLEN

I'm researching the descendants of the Rev. Bishop James RICHARDSON, D.D., first Methodist Episcopal Bishop of Canada. He is buried at the Toronto Necropolis and I've just bought a book of monumental inscriptions. On three sides of the RICHARDSON grave are names and dates which are familiar to me, but on the fourth was a surprise:

Martha Annie
ALLEN
Wife of
David L.
HUNTINGTON
And
Grand daughter of
James
RICHARDSON D.D.
Died Nov. 8th 1861
Aged 24 years.

Some quick searches of the usual suspects (IGI, Ancestry, Rootsweb) revealed that a number of researchers show that one David Low HUNTINGTON married Annie Martha ALLEN in Pennsylvania on 9 May 1860. The death date of Annie Martha matches the death date of Martha Annie from the grave in Toronto. These trees show that David remarried in September of 1861 (unlikely, as his first wife was still alive) or, more likely, 28 September 1869 in New Mexico to Elizabeth Gertrude SHOEMAKER.

The book, "The Huntington family in America : a genealogical memoir of the known descendants of Simon Huntington from 1633 to 1915" mentions only Gertrude as his wife, with a marriage date of 28 September 1869 in Santa Fe, NM.

What I'm trying to discover is whether this is the same David HUNTINGTON who married Martha Annie (or Annie Martha) ALLEN or whether two men with a similar name have been accidentally combined in a family tree and the mistake repeated elsewhere. Do any HUNTINGTON researchers have the details of his marriage to Gertrude SHOEMAKER -- was he a widower? Has anyone seen the Pennsylvania marriage record to Martha Annie ALLEN? I'm afraid I don't know the names of her parents; as her grandfather was James RICHARDSON, presumably her mother was a RICHARDSON and her father an ALLEN, but this would be a previously-unknown daughter in the RICHARDSON family tree. The other possibility is that Martha was a widow at the time of her 1860 marriage and ALLEN was her first husband's name.

It's early days yet for me so I haven't any more detailed information on David, but am quite happy to share anything about the RICHARDSON family if we can discover whether this Martha Annie ALLEN on the grave married the same David Low HUNTINGTON who married and had a family with Gertrude SHOEMAKER.

Thanks!
Holly

Richard HUNTINGTON Biography, YORK<PA<WI

From "History of Grant County, Wisconsin", 1881, p. 908.

PLATTEVILLE

RICHARD HUNTINGTON, deceased; was the first of the Huntington brothers to settle in Grant Co. He was born Aug. 1, 1804, in Swinefleet, Yorkshire, England, and came to America in 1830, locating at Pittsburgh, Penn. He remained there until 1835, when he came to Platteville; it was then a small collection of miners' log huts, and had but recently received the name of Platteville. In the spring of 1836, he made what was then known as a "squatter's claim" of part of the present estate; this land he bought of the Government on its coming into market. He began here in a primitive log house, which was replaced in 1857, by the present roomy and substantial brick farmhouse. His first wife, nee Mary Myers, died in the fall of 1846, leaving four children - William M., Robert M., Richard J., and Lydia A. On the 22d of April, 1847, he married Miss Lucy Colburn, she is of the old Puritan stock, and was born in Chittenden Co., Vt., but was reared and educated in and near Burlington, Vt.; 1845, was the date of her settlement in Platteville. Mr. Huntington was a life-long and most successful farmer. He took pride in his beautiful prairie farm, and made such additions as to leave a large estate to his posterity. He was a prominent and honored member of the P. M. Church, and was a man of kindly and benevolent convictions. He died April 28, 1871. Few of the pioneers of Platteville could count more real friends, and none could have left a place more difficult to fill. By his second marriage, he had six children - Mary E., Frank E., Laura M., Samuel W. and Carrie E. Charles W. died May 11, 1864. Since 1879, hiw widow and youngest daughter, now Mrs. J. H. Spink, have resided in the city of Platteville. Mrs. Huntington is a member of the M. E. Church.

[I am not related to this family. I am posting this as a service and hope it helps!]

From "History of Grant County, Wisconsin", 1881, p. 908.

PLATTEVILLE

JOHN HUNTINGTON, Platteville. Born in Goole, Yorkshire, England, May 1, 1803. His wife was Mary Hatfield, who was born April 30, 1811, in Laxton, Yorkshire, England; married March 24, 1831, and their bridal tour was to their future home in America. Up to 1837, their home was Pittsburgh, Penn. In the spring of 1837, they came to Platteville, where he bought 160 acres of his present farm; only 17 acres were broken, and on this was a small log cabin in which the young couple began life in Badgerdom. It was replaced in 1859, by the substantial brick farmhouse, now occupied by a son. Mr. Huntington has been a lifelong and most successful farmer. He now owns 680 acres of splendid land under cultivation, besides 120 acres of timber. Since October, 1869, Mr. Huntington has resided in the city of Platteville.

I am doing research for my family this summer and need some info. My great-grandfather knows this info about his grandfather:
James Huntington
B. Feb 29, 1836 in Goole, Yorkshire, England
Came to America when 9 yrs. old.
Family settled in Plattville, Wisconsin
Died 1893
I am trying to find out if this info is correct and to find more family members, if this is correct. I have found a James that meets most of this, but is said to have died in England. I do not think this is true (I am trying to find out from great-grandpa where he died). If you can help me, I'd appreciate it! :)
Thanks!
Kathlee

Wife obtained an old book (1897) which contained family photographs in it. One is of a C. W. Motes, Atlanta GA (on the back: C.W. Motes International Cotton Exposition, Gold Medal, Whitehall St. Atlanta, GA. Also appears to be another family picture in front of a house with what appears to be CW Motes and his family (parents grandparents etc?) - appears to be a banner in the picture with the year 1937 on it. The book has in it handwritten: Helen Huntington, Mountain Lake Park, MD Aug 1897, Americus GA and a stamed name CRAWFORD WHEATLEY, Americus GA. Would like to return book and pictures to the righteful family. Also a third picture, 2 girls one boy (young) in a boat on a beach.

Dear Chuck, Thanks so much for your reply, it helps and confuses (par for the course) will have to go back to my notes and see what I can figure out. But, if I remember correctly, the 1880 census lists Craven as a widower already. Peter was my great-grandfather. He had three children, Emily, Emma, and Bathurst Craven who was my grandfather. Peter married Elnoria Frances Lyles - you will see her name spelled all kinds of ways. Craven was living with Peter at the time of his death. Do you have any idea where Edward Huntington lived - where Haven was born? Thanks again, Ann

My Great-grandmother's name was Lizzie Huntington. She is descended from William Huntington, one of the founders of Amesbury, MA. I believe he descended from Simon Huntington, and part of the family moved to Conn. My mother has extensive records of the Huntington family, and my Great-Grandmother Lizzie upkept the records until her death. According to her records, this is the same family of the Samuel Huntington that signed the Declaration of Independence. Anyone that is interested in more information please contact me.

Deborah R. Huntington Obituary - OH 1885

Found in the 1887 diary of Lizzie McKelvey, Tiffin, Ohio...

From an unknown newspaper -

Mrs. Deborah R. Huntington

Mrs. Deborah R. Huntington, well known to the older residents of Sandusky died at her home on Huron avenue, this (Tuesday) morning, after a long and painful illness of nearly a year. She was in her 83rd year; and had lived among us since the Spring of 1852, when she came to this city from Brownville, New York. Her husband, Apollos Huntington, died here in 1882. She leaves children, grand children and friends, all of whom have felt the simple beauty of her life.

What greater prasie can be given her than to say that she was a true womanly woman; - quiet, unaffected, and to the highest, unselfish. Her house was her realm; and while she won esteem from all, her closest and dearest friends are the ones who will praise her most; - those who were with her constantly and saw her noble life under all circumstances, prosperity and loss, joy and sorrow. Her name, Deborah, was fitly given her, for her hands were never idle; and she found her greatest pleasure in helping and ministering to those about her. She was accustomed to say that she did not wish to live beyond the time when she could be of use; but she submitted patiently to the suffering sent her, confident that the Father in Heaven knew what was best.

A long, successful life is finally ended, and the memory of it is a sermon to all who knew her on cheerful contentment, self denying activity, and true christian living.

The funeral will take place to-morrow (Wednesday) afternoon and four o'clock from the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. John McKelvey, on Huron avenue.

Lydia Huntington married William Groat...

I am looking for the Huntington family who were United Empire Loyalists and immigrated to the Eastern Townships of Quebec. Lydia Huntington, of Sutton, Brome County, Quebec, married William Groat. I am not sure if Lydia and William were actually born in Quebec. The estimated dates of birth are 1760-1780. If they were from Loyalist families, they may have been born in the USA, possibly, NY, VT, and/or CT.
The other names in marriages in the family are 'Demaray' and 'Marsh'. At one point some members of the families were in Missisquoi County, Quebec, in Clarenceville. (Missisquoi is also in the Eastern Townships.)
Members of these families immigrated to Upper Canada (Ontario) and some returned to the USA.
Any help with the search for Lydia Huntington and William Groat would be appreciated.

I am searching for a book about the Huntington's of New England, possibly Connecticut. The name of the book is After Three Centuries An Old New England Family by Elsworth Huntington and Martha Ragsdale. Elsworth was a Yale professor. The book was published by the Huntington Family Association sometime in the 1940's. Does anyone know where a copy of this book can be found?

I am looking for information on Nancy wife of D. Huntington
She was age82 when she died on 17 Oct 1860. My brother-in-law bought a house 4 yrs ago and has started remodeling it this past year. The house is from the middle 1800's. When he took out what he thought was just a marble walkway he found one of the marble stones was actually a gravestone. On the front it is printed like this;
Nancy
wife of D. Huntington
Oct. 17, 1860
in her 82 year

My brother lives in Onondaga County, NY
Any information would be helpful. We would like to know where this stone came from or if it was a mistake made by the headstone company. There is a large chip at the bottom and there is no base. Or could she be burried on his property somewhere. Or did someone steal this head stone from a cemetery?
Thanks Marcie

Huntington/Love...Monroe Co., WI
Maude Permilia Love married Lester Louis Huntington in Little Falls, MN. He was the son of Charles and Lucy Larabee Huntington. They are buried in Monroe Co. WI.
Descendants of this couple include Pearl Ethel b. 1902 in WI; Bertha Mae b. 1905; Hazel Vivian b. 1907; Dora Grace b. 1911; Henry Roy Huntington b. 1913; Donald Huntington b. 1919 who was stillborn. All of this is unverified information from online sources. Maude Permilia was the daughter of Henry Clinton and Susan Palmer Love. Henry was the son of Clinton (1804 NY) and Mary Stalker Love. I am interested in contacting any descendants of the Love, Palmer, Larabee or Huntington lines associated with this family. If any of this seems familiar to you, please reply. Maybe we can exchange information.
Thanks,
Shirley
