You don't give us any dates, but a search of FreeBMD reveals that Thomas died in Liverpool in 1879 and that Elizabeth pre-deceased him and died in Sheffield, aged 34, in 1874.

If these are the correct people, it would suggest that they are more likely to have been buried in Sheffield.

There is a large amount of information on Sheffield on Genuki. If you can't work out where they might be buried, you could contact Sheffield Archives. (Google gives you the link)

Hello All:

My name is Sally Huntley from the USA. My grandfather immigrated here from Liverpool circa 1881 by stowing away aboard a ship. He brought no vital records of any kind.

His parents, my G-grandparents were Thomas Edmond Boyce Huntley, II & Elizabeth (Brunker) Huntley. According to Elizabeth's death certificate, she died in Brightside, Bierlow, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. According to Thomas Huntley's death certificate, he died in W. Derby, Lancashire, England. They were both members of the Anglican Church. IS/was there a particular cemetery where they may have been buried & if so, is there a way to contact the cemetery.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Sally Huntley
NJ USA

Hi, I don't know if you are still looking for this information but in case you are thought I would send you a quick email to let you know that descendents of John Huntley still live at Boxwell Court. I believe it is entrusted and passes down to the eldest son who seems always to be names John. The current John Huntley is married to Bridget who has been researching the Huntley family tree and may be able to help you in your quest - perhaps you have some info she would like. Anyway hope this helps

Hi Alan, Sarah Penfold was George Huntley's wife, not William's. It is possible that William could have had two wives, it was fairly common.I am unable to find George in any of England's records. The first public record I can find on George is the ships records when he and Sarah Penfold migrated to Canada. From then on he is well documented both is Canada and the US. You can email me directly at ntfarretta@verizon.net. I can send you what info I have on George and Sarah. Thanks Nancy

My wife is a Huntley descendant and my research has shown that Jabez and his family were NOT loyalists and in fact took a very active role in the revolution including the defence of Machias and the capture of the HMS Margetta. I am curious to how this connection was made? They went to Nova Scotia because Jabez and his brother fought the French their and were able to get land that was taken away from the Acadiens.

My name is John Huntley, of Baker, Montana. I am cousin to Chet. I think we are 3rd or 4th cousins. I do not know.

My late fater was Gene, of Huntley, Montana, whose father was Ray. My late father and Chet knew each other.

I think Rays father was Percy.

I read some of the post with interest.

I know very little about my ancestory. I have become interested in est. whether or not Jabez Huntley, who is a decendent of John Huntley, of Lyme, was in the Rev. War.

Do you have any info?

Okay you're quite right, however, the issue of whether Jabez Huntley was a Loyalist is definitely a yes and no issue.

Jabez Huntley was in Horton, Cornwallis, Nova Scotia, by 1761. Proof by deed dated 29 May 1761, on lands vacated by the Arcadians.

However, my research notes say that Jabez Huntley served as a British soldier before the Revolution, enlisting in the British Royal Navy in Canada and later deserting from a British Man of War that was anchored in the harbor near the port of St. Andrews, New Brunswick. The small harbors of New Brunswick were used by the British Royal Navy due to their close proximity to the United States.

After deserting from the British Royal Navy he then returned to the USA about 1771/1772, settling in an area of the Massachusetts Commonwealth that is now called Machias, Maine.

Jabez served in the Revolutionary War from September 1775 to December 1775 as a Sergeant in Captain Smith's Company. His service record says he was reduced to Private in November 1775. This company was stationed in Machias for the defense of the seacoast. Jabez Huntley is listed as one of the men who were paid a bounty of one pound at Machias in October of 1777 for enlistment service.

His son Frederick Huntley married and remained in Nova Scotia until 1797/1798, when he brought his family back to Cutler/Machias, Maine. Many of his descendants still live in Maine.
I have Huntley cousins in Machiasport and Cutler, Washington County, Maine.
This Maine branch of the Huntleys descend from Jabez Huntley of Lyme, Connecticut. Jabez Huntley was a Loyalist during the American Revolution and he took his family to Nova Scotia, Canada about 1760. They returned to the States when the war was over, settling in both Massachusetts and Maine through several generations. For this reason, they went off the genealogy radar. I have in my possession a Civil War era store ledger kept by the Huntleys in Machiasport which I keep safely wrapped. Jabez Huntley's father Moses Huntley is my 6th great grandfather. If this is your family, please feel free to email me directly at cheron@cox.net
Kind Regards,
Cheron
