LAWRENCE L. HUPKE , 71, of Los Alamos, died Tuesday following a sudden illness. He retired from Los Alamos National Laboratory after 37 years of service. He served in the Navy aboard the USS Orion during the Korean War. He was a member and past exalted ruler of BPOE Lodge of Los Alamos. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Helen Hupke; and a son, Michael Hupke. He is survived by his wife, Jerry Hupke of Los Alamos; son, Patrick Hupke and wife Evelyn; two grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Wilfred Hupke and wife Dottie of Arizona, Lester Hupke and wife Frances of Iowa, Berniece Green and husband Scott of Nebraska, LouAnn Owens and husband Robert of Florida, JoAnn Frahm and husband Bob of Iowa, and Loretta Wilson and husband Billy of Los Alamos; and many other relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Los Alamos. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday also at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Los Alamos. Burial will follow at the Guaje Pines Cemetery. DeVargas Funeral Home of the Española Valley.
