We're related to Kilborn's wife, Margaret Watt (b: @ 1837 in Ireland), sister to our great-great grandfather, Andrew Watt (the local baliff). Apparently Kilborn had the General Store in Meaford. Found 4 kids (in census/baptism records early) Elizabeth Hurd, Charles K. Hurd(assume Kilborn), William Henry Hurd b: 11 May 1869, and Andrew Edwin Hurd b: 30 Aug 1872. Wondering about relatives and info you might have on Margaret and their kids and all. Thanks!

1800'S HURD: Amanda O., Rev. Nathaniel, Silas, Henry

I went to an antique mall today and found a book (albeit water damaged) that was apparently owned by an Amanda O. Hurd. While that in itself would not make it stand out, I came across several newspaper clippings she had glued in the book. They appear to be actual clippings from the late 1800's. I had to buy it to return this book to her descendants.

It appears Rev. N. Hurd and Amanda were from Vermont and moved to Kewanee, Illinois. Rev. Henry Marlyn Hurd had lived in Mendon, NY and was the oldest son of Rev. Nathaniel and Amanda. Silas Hurd's obituary is here and shows he was the brother of Rev. Nathaniel Hurd. He was from Vermont and moved to Ohio, where he died.

If any of these names match your family, please let me know. Hopefully, this treasure can be returned to the rightful owners.

Thank you.
Wendy

(NICHOLS, EWART, HAYWARD, WHETTON, ALLEN, WILLETT, GRIGWARE, CAMPBELL, MCDOUGALL, GIBB, GRAY)

Does anyone have any information on Eunice P. Hurd, she is my great-great grandmother-- she was born in 1828 in Bethel, N.Y. and married Joseph J. Adgate in 1845. She died in 1878 buried in Liberty, N.Y. I believe her mother, who survived her, first name was named Emily (could be Sherwood but not sure). Does anyone know the name of her father (could be Thaddeus but again not sure) and her mother's maiden name? Did she descend from Adam or John Hurd of Connecticut?

Thanks

Lucius Hurd (b.1847) wife Nellie, & son Dean (b.1883), lived Brown Co., WI

I have three original photographs of Lucius, Nellie and Dean Hurd, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photos of Lucius and Nellie are Cabinet Cards, taken about 1890 and photo of Dean is a carte de visite, taken probably about 1885. Photo of father was taken in Chicago, and those of Nellie and Dean were taken in DePere (Brown Co.) WI. The actual writing on each: “Uncle Lucius Hurd, Dean’s father”; “Aunt Nellie Hurd, Dean’s mother”; and “Cousin Dean Hurd”.

I found Dean and his father in the 1900 census for DePere, WI, but Lucius was widowed. Date of birth for Lucius was April 1848, in NH, and Dean Hurd was born July, 1883 in WI.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Lucius, Nellie or Dean Hurd.

John Henry Hurd

Hello, My name is Robert Hill and I am using one of the computers at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. I am researching my great grandfather John Henry Hurd and have reached a road block. Here is what I have so far:

John Henry Hurd
SSN: 514-12-7876
DOB: 4/30/1889, Benton County, Arkansas
Marriage: Mary Ellen Thomas, 2/14/1923
DOD: 5/2/1972, Garden City, Finney, Kansas
(little info on Mary Ellen)

I am having trouble finding his father. His name is Ira Hurd. Here is what I know about him--I am not positive these are accurate:

Ira Hurd
DOB: 7/4/1854, Morris Town, Minnesota
DOD: 4/12/1946, Garden City, Finney, Kansas
He was supposedly married three times. First to a Lonnie Luster. Second to a Emmie Gillfillon (sp). Third, to an indian women--my great grandmother whom I do not have a name. Ira was adopted by George Stanley soon after his birth. His parents died during his birth year. I believe his father's name is James Hurd. Any help would be very helpful. If you have any information, please email me at robertghill@sbcglobal.net since I am just a guest on this computer and not an actual ancestry member.

Thank you
David Hurd/Herd and Heather Petit/e marriage

David Hurd/Herd had a "Herd" tartan woven for his wedding to Heather Petit/e. Who is he and how does he connect to Scotland? I can't find this marriage in Scotland, even after much help from GROS(General Register Office of Scotland). The tartan was collected by Stuart Davidson who died in 1978. All of Stuart Davidson's notes about tartans were given to the Scottish Tartan Aughority. Does anyone know of this David Hurd/Herd?

Hinman Hurd ca 1780-1836

In my Drakeley line, I have Anna Drakeley (b. 15 Feb 1781, Woodbury,CT; d. prob. bef 1860, Lorain County, Ohio) married Hinman Hurd 12 Nov 1802 in New Haven. I had trouble finding the family at first, but have now realized that his name was probably Noah Hinman Hurd. You find them in Woodbury in 1810 (ancestry indexed as Hierman Hurd), in 1820 still in Woodbury as Noah H Hurd, and then in 1830 in Carlisle, Lorain County, Ohio as Noah H Hard. He died 16 Sep 1836.

Anna then is listed in 1840 in Columbia,Lorain County as Anna Herd. Then in 1850 in Elyria, Lorain County. I haven't found her after that, so assume she died before 1860.

The following may be children of Noah Hinman Hurd and Anna Drakeley:
Horace (b. abt 1804, CT) m. Saphronia Crandel; ch Elizabeth, George, Alva, and Francis

Emily Ophelia (b. abt 1807, CT; d. 26 Feb 1830, Lorain County, OH) m. Ezra Squires

Thomas D(Drakeley?) (b. abt 1809, CT; d. bef 1850) m. Caroline Bassett; ch. Henrietta
Marietta (b. abt 1811, CT; d abt 1855, Lorain County, OH) m. Ezra Squires; ch. Alfred, Odelphelia, and Orin Whitley

Mary Ann (b. Apr 1815, CT; d 11 Dec 1900, Clark Co, Wisconsin) m. Caleb Alandus Curtis; ch. Charles or George Wheeler, Marie S, Frances, Will R, Catherine E (Kate)

Catherine (b. abt 1821, CT; d. 18 Mar 1891, Dane County, Wisconsin) m. Govenor William Robert Taylor; ch. Marion O, Florence, and Catherine.

and probably at least two other sons.

Any help in proving or disproving the children, additonal information on the family, or help on finding the parents of Noah Hinman Hurd will be greatly appreciated.

Reverend Simeon Hurd (1725-1806)

Hello everybody,
I am writing to inquire who might have information about whether an ancestor of mine, Simeon Hurd, served as a Chaplain during the Revolutionary War.
I have seen it written in a couple of Hurd Genealogy Books that he served as a Chaplain in the 5th Connecticut Regiment.
What I have done so far is contact the DAR and the SAR and while they couldn't find his name on the Patriot's List they stated that he still might have served. I've also contacted the 5th CT regiment, and they didn't have him listed on their muster list.
Several of the groups I contacted have mentioned some books that are in CT Libraries that have a wealth of info on this subject, but I live in TX and am not able to fly out to CT at this time to do this research.
If anybody has definitive proof that Simeon was in the Revolutionary War with the 5th or another regiment, I would like to hear from you.
Thanks,
Kevin Hurd
ccdk@sprynet.com
Searching for wife of Nathan HURD, son of John and Abigail Wallis HURD and grandson of original settlers John and Sarah HURD. Nathan's children: Abigail bp.1732 m.PRICE; Rachel bp.1734/35 m.(1)PLATT (2)EDMOND; Nathan d. bef 1761 & Sarah bp.c.1736 not in will; Mary m. STEVENS; and Eunice. So Nathan's wife would probably have been alive at least in 1736. She is not mentioned in Nathan's will of 1761, so is probably dec. by then. Possible clues to her name might be the names of these children. Daus. Rachel and Mary both named a daughter Sarah. Any help appreciated.

William Hurd b. abt 1781 & family - Ireland, DE, PA

Source: Bell, Herbert C., History of Venango County
"JAMES J. HURD, farmer and stock raiser, is a native of Delaware, born in the town of Smyrna, January 1, 1820. His father, William Hurd, was a descendant of an old Irish family which settled in Delaware at an early date, and his mother, whose maiden name was Nancy Johnson, was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and came of English ancestry. William Hurd immigrated to Pennsylvania many years ago, settling in Penn’s valley, Centre county, and in 1825 removed to Wilmington township, Mercer county, and settled about six miles southwest of Mercer. He was a successful farmer and a substantial citizen, and died about 1846, at the age of sixty- five. Mrs. Hurd preceded her husband to the grave, dying about 1839. Their children are as follows: James J.; Henry, deceased; Francis; William; Alfred, and Mrs. Sarah Barrett. By a previous marriage with a Mr. Murray, Mrs. Hurd had two children: Elizabeth, widow of Isaac Reed, and Lucinda, deceased.

James J. Hurd was three years of age when his parents removed to this state, and five years when they settled in Mercer county, His early educational advantages were limited to a couple of months’ attendance each year in the common schools, and amid the rugged scenes of farm labor his youth and early manhood were passed. While still a youth he took up the carpenter’s trade, and for a period of twenty- five years followed that occupation in Mercer and adjoining counties. In 1864 he moved to Venango county and purchased a part of his present farm, located about two miles west of Utica, but a short time afterward he rented his place to his son, and moving to Franklin, resumed his trade in connection with rig and tank building. After a few years at the county seat he returned to his farm, upon which he has since resided. Mr. Hurd has been thrice married, the first time April 14, 1842, to Mary, daughter of William and Hannah Johnson, a union blessed with six children: Nancy, deceased; Sarah A., deceased; William; Frances J.; Daniel, deceased, and one who died in infancy. Mrs. Hurd died in 1863, aged forty years. His second marriage was solemnized with Miss Isabel Reed of Mercer county, who died in 1871. Mr. Hurd was married to his present wife, Mrs. Ellen (Hibler) Hurd, widow of Daniel Hibler and daughter of Alexander and Nancy Montgomery, April 14, 1872. In politics Mr. Hurd is an earnest Republican, and a warm friend of temperance reform. He has been a member of the United Presbyterian church for more than twenty- five years."

I am researching Nancy, the daughter of James & Mary Johnson Hurd. I believe that this Nancy married James Perkins. Their daughter, Alice Perkins b. 1874, was raised by James Hurd and his third wife, Ellen Montgomery Hibler, widow of Daniel Hibler. Any info is appreciated.
Michael, This isn't the best way to display it, but the common connection goes like this:

1. Samuel Hawley (1647 CT - 1734 CT) m. Patience Nichols (ca. 1660 CT - 1734 CT)
2. Ephraim Hawley (ca. 1692 CT - 1771 VT) m. Sarah Curtis (1687 CT - ?)
3. Jehiel Hawley (ca. 1711 CT - 1777 VT) m. Sarah Dunning (1713 CT - 1777 VT)
4. Annah Hawley (1736 CT - 1822 ON) m. Phineas Hurd (ca. 1731 CT - 1777 NY?)
5. Asahel Hurd (1768 VT - 1839 ON) m. Hulda Bond
6. Asahel Hurd (1807 - ) m. Laura Chapman
7. Sarah Hurd (1831 ON - 1913 SK) m. John Hurlburt (1830 ON - 1901 SK)
2. Patience Hawley (ca. 1718 CT - ?) m. Consider Hurlbut (1716 CT - 1766 CT)
3. Patience Hurlbut (1749 CT - ? ON) m. Moses Hurlbut (1748 CT - ca. 1816 ON) - More cousins marrying . . .
4. Heman Hurlbut (1773 VT - 1853 ON) m. Hannah Mosher (1780 CT - 1857 ON)
5. Heman Hurlburt (1804 ON - 1879 ON) m. Mary Dulmage (1808 ON - 1848 ON)
6. John Hurlburt (1830 ON - 1901 SK) m. Sarah Hurd (1831 ON - 1913 SK)

I think there's another connection between John and Sarah, but I can't put my hands on the file. There seem to be a few families that have intermarried extensively over the generations, so these multiple relationships keep cropping up. Not surprising, I suppose, if you put it in the context of small communities and limited mobility.

Another example: Asahel Hurlburt, John and Sarah's youngest son, married Minnie Hurd, who is descended from Asahel Hurd and his first wife, Sarah Burritt, so Ase and Minnie would be, I think, half-cousins of some kind.

Hope this helps.

Joan

Hurd and PT Barnum?? Seth and Thankful Hurd

Hi! I am related directly to the Hurd line through my many great grandparents Seth and Thankful Hurd.

Anyways, there has been a family story that the Hurd line is directly related to the Barnum line. I have this sheet that was a picture of the Barnum family and there are a bunch of Hurds in the picture. I believe that it was on his wife's side. Does anyone know anything about this connection?

Missy

Hurd Family

My great great grandmother was Amy Sophia Hurd. Amy's line runs back through, Sheldon Hurd, Eleazer, Timothy, Benjamin, Benjamin, John, Adam, and John Hurd. I have found information on the internet that indicates the original John was born in Somertshire, Enlgand about 1581 and married Margaret Houchings who was born about 1589 in Somersetshire. I have found a number of sources that report John had two sons: Adam and John. I found information that Adam married a Hannah Bartram and had a son John who was born in 1639. John son of John who I believe to have been born September 6, 1612 had a son John born in 1642. I find all of these John's confusing. Some sources say the John born in 1639 died in 1680/81 and some say in 1690. Does anyone have definitive information that sorts these people out? Also, Adam's son John was said to have married a Hannah Tuttle, a Sarah Thompson, and an Ann (Porter) Judson. Was he actually married 3 times or is he being confused with John's son John? Help!

Hurd Coat of Arms/Hurd Family Crest ~ Can U Help Educate me?

Hello,
I was wondering if a kind soul to help to educate me on the difforence between Coat Of Arms & Family Crest. Are they one in the same? Places on the web want to charge me to obtain this information and I cannot afford that.

Also, Does anyone have the Hurd surname Arms/Crest that they could share with me and it's meaning? I will only use it to place in my 10th Grand Grandfathers file here at home. His name was John Hurd, h/o Isabel. I am only just beginning with my research with him.

It appears this coat of arms is a big money making thing. I am rather disappointed at that fact. I would love to see all Genealogy kept free. It was never ours to begin with. Anyway,
Thanks so much!

Sincerely,
Rebecca
