Robert Husted Passage to America on the ASSURANCE

Robert Husted Passage to America on the ASSURANCE

Robert Husted immigrated to America with the Rev. Joseph Hull Company and is listed as passenger number 104 on the ship’s list.[1][2] Their ship left Weymouth on 20 March 1635 and the ship’s list indicated that there were 106 passengers "Bound for New England".[2] After a voyage of about 46 days, the ship landed at Dorchester (Massachusetts Bay Colony) on 7 May 1635 and stayed there “a fortnight” before removing to Wessaguscus.[3] On July 8, 1635, the General Court of Massachusetts passed an order permitting Rev. Joseph Hull's company of twenty-one families to settle at Wessaguscus, which was then incorporated under the name of Weymouth on 2 September 1635.[4] Not only was Robert Husted part of the Hull Company, he also settled with the same group. Robert Husted and his family of eight were granted land at Mount Wollaston in 1640.[5]

Two other members of the Hull Company were Zachary and Agnes Bicknell of Weymouth, the immigrant ancestors of the American Bicknells.[6] They were passengers 41 and 42 respectively on the Hull Company’s ship’s list.[7] The ship they came over on was the “Assurance” from Gravesend, Kent, England.[8] These facts, including the name of the Hull Company’s vessel the “Assurance” are also asserted by the Chairman of the Weymouth Historical Commission, Theodore Clarke, on the official webpage of the town of Weymouth, MA.
Soloman/Solomon Husted in Ohio

Hello, I am trying to further a lead on a Soloman/Solomon Husted who resided in Champaign County and Clark county, Ohio and then passed away in Hamilton County, Indiana. I believe he was married to a Anna Ferguson in 1824 in Clark county and possibly a May Harris in 1853 In Hamilton County unless he had a son named Solomon as well. His death date shows as 1855 in Hamilton County, Indiana. He also served in the Capt. Arthur Layton's Company in the War of 1812 with several other Husteds:
Issac- a private
John- a fifer
Moses- a private
Samuel- a private
Solomon- a private

I am trying to connect solomon or maybe a sibling as the father to a Mahlon/Mahon Husted born in 1831 or so. If anyone has any of these names in thier research I would be very thankful for some help. Been stuck a very long time.

Thanks

A new clue determined that Robert HUSTE (Robert HUSTED) may have sailed on the HMS ASSURANCE. There were several ships so named; a later one sunk about 1753. There was mention of one at anchor being saluted in 1613, I believe.

Ephraim HUSTED; b. 1832-1837 OH or KS; d. 1861 KS or OK

Ephraim's parents were Silas HUSTED and Phebe LITCHFIELD of PA & NY>Fulton Co., IL>OH>KS. Siblings: female (1827-1830), Mary A., Sophronia, Lodiska, Chauncy, Albert Anton, and Oliver Dallas. He married Mary "Clarinda" GOODWIN in 1858. He lived in Holmes Co., OH, Osawatomie, Lykins (Miami) Co., KS and Meno, Major Co., OK. Two sons, Charles "Arthur" (1858-1938) and William "Luther" (1860-1923), my great-grandfather.

Ephraim was supposedly in the American Civil War and died of measles while driving a provision wagon. I have found no evidence of his enlistment. After his death, his wife, Clarinda, remarried in 1866 to John Landon Jefferson CHANDLER and had another child, Maggie CHANDLER. She also changed her sons names to CHANDLER in the 1880 census (I don't know if they were formally adopted but the two men used HUSTED in adulthood).

Interested in anything you might be able to tell me about this family, particularly Documentary Sources, and, as always, willing to share whatever I have.

Thanks in advance,
Melinda
Husted admn., 1849, Delaware Co., NY

Board of Supervisors Book III Part 3, Section 1, 1846-1854 Delaware County, NY has REPORT OF COUNTY JUDGE AND SURROGATE. Report of the amount of fees received by E. More, County Judge, from November 1st., 1848 to November 1st, 1849 includes (1849) Mch. 3, Husted admn., 5.00.

Does anyone know if this administration left paperwork in Delaware County, New York. The memorial for Joseph HUSTED in Long Flats Cemetery, Hancock Town (near Harvard) lists his decease as 1849. I suspect that the Husted admn. fee was for his property dispersement. In short, what names were listed in the paperwork?

I don't know whether this information is correct or not, but sure would like to know. Please - somebody help!

I have recently purchased (in TX) two wonderful cabinet card photos of Husted children. One of the photos was taken in Cherokee, Crawford Co. KS. in 1908 or 1909 (written on card). There are three children: Earl, @ 4 yrs. Helen, an infant, & Bernice, @ 3 yrs. The other photo is of Earl in a little sailor suit: knickers, long socks, rather large coat which is wrapped around him and a jaunty cap. Both are in excellent condition with no damage to the images. If this is your family or you may have an interest in these photos, please contact me privately. Thank you, Judy

Clark Husted b. 1831 Steuben Co., NY

Clark Husted appeared in the 1850 census in Troupsburg, Steuben Co., NY as single and again in the 1880 census in Woodhull, Steuben Co., NY with wife Emma Patison and daughter Edith. I am attempting to discover where he was in the interim. He married Martha E. Miller in 1852 and had at least one child, Eddy. Martha died in 1866. It is possible he went to Minnesota in about 1854 with other family members and returned to NY after his first wife died.

I have no other information about him except that he claimed to have been born in Royal Oak, MI and raised in Brooklyn, NY. He apparently had several brothers and sisters, one of which is Ruth Willis who lived in Coral Gables, FL. Please!!!!!

I am trying to trace back from a Julius Burton Husted born in Michigan (1840'S?, possibly in the Oakland County area. His parents were born in New York. He married a Francis L. (Babcock?)and moved the family to Clare, MI in about 1874. After she died in 1884 he remarried an Anna O'Neil (b: England). They lived in Alexandria, IN where they had children (at least two I am aware of:James and George. Would like to find out when and where Julius died (it had to be 1900 or after because that was when James was born).
If anyone can help me find out more about Julius or his ancestors I would appreciate it!

Mabel Merritt Husted Meardon

have quite a bit of ancestor information on Mrs. Mabel Merritt Husted Meardon but have been unable to determine any current info on her descendants. Mabel Merritt (1886 - 1967) was the daughter of Fred D. Merritt and Ellen Whitney, and she was born in Iowa. Mabel married Dr. Horace Lee Husted (born about 1883) and they lived in Iowa City, Iowa in 1915 at the time she joined D.A.R. Dr. Husted died in about 1921 and I believe he is buried in Muscatine, Iowa. Mabel and Horace had one daughter, Helen Louise Husted. Does anyone have any connection or genealogy info on her?

subsequently married Charles Meardon, a widower, and they lived in Iowa City. Mabel Merritt Husted Meardon died in October 1967 in Iowa City, Johnson County, Iowa.

I look forward to sharing info with those tracing early day Merritt families in Iowa.

Ron Merritt
ronmerritt@hotmail.com

Philip Husted of Westchester Co., NY

I understand that an article in the NYGBJ last year made light of several Husted families from Westchester, all descendent from Robert Husted and Elizabeth Buxton. I am attempting to link Philip, b. in 1750, to one of Samuel Jr., James Sr. or Robert Husted, all sons of Samuel Sr. and grandsons of the aforementioned Robert and Elizabeth. If anyone has come across this article and/or can offer other pertinent information on this line, I'd be most appreciative. Similarly, I possess volumes of information on Philip and other Loyalist settlers of New Brunswick, Canada should anyone require this information or be looking for links in this direction.
