My gg grandfather was named Thomas Husted, b:1844 near Des Moines,Ia. There are many "Thomas's" up the family tree going back to the early 1800's from Cumberland Cnty, N.J. If you think you have a link or I may be able to share my info with you, feel free to contact directly,

bnjmarti@zoominternet.net
Thanks,
jcm

HUSTED Family Records in Dutchess County NY

PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION AT http://www.petitiononline.com/hirehist/petition.html

I am writing to let all who have records in Dutchess County NY know that we have not had the office of County Historian filled continuously. For the past 18 years we had a Historian in office only 2 1/2 years. For many years the public has been denied access to the archives. We have a law on the books mandating a Historian as well as a Records Management Advisory Board. This board was not publicized and has never met. As President of the Dutchess County Genealogical Society, I learn that I am supposed to be on that board. With that in mind I am going to attempt to call a meeting, though we do not have the captain of the ship...Historian, nor the Archivist, who is supposed to be appointed by the Historian.

There is confusion surrounding this office. Many feel that a long time President of the Dutchess County Historical Society covered this office for 15 years. This error is compounded by a link on our government web site to the DC Historical Society web site, and the fact that in some states this is allowed. But, the DCHS collections are private collections, though they do archive them and use them to help folks with research, they contain no public records, and can not, by NYS law. The DCHS has an impressive collection and provides great service to genealogists. However, they are not funded by the county, and the county cannot take credit for their work.

Currently historians in Dutchess County are lobbying for our county government to fill this office. Preservation of and access to historical records much needed for genealogical research is our central goal. With that thought in mind I am writing to all of you, in hopes that you will sign our petition which may be found at http://www.petitiononline.com/hirehist/petition.html Those residing outside Dutchess County are welcome to sign -- preserving the records is critical to any researcher of Dutchess County families, wherever they may reside.

Thank you!
Valerie LaRobardier

Hello, Judy:
I just noticed your message re: Husted photos and wonder if you still have them. I know very little about my maternal grandfather other than his name was Earl Husted. My grandmother was born in 1905 in Shawnee County, KS, so the date of the picture seems to track. I also remember relatives discussing an "Aunt Helen", but have no living source with whom to verify.
Since it's been a few years since you posted this, I'm not sure if you still have the photos, but would love to discuss further.
Thank you in advance,
Chris - Houston TX

Jo, according to the old bible of Isaac Atchley Lucy died Feb 14, 1912. I guess I was looking at the wrong place. Sure glad you knew this. Where did you find this info? Just curious.Do you have the book compiled by Maude Horn "Atchley Family History". By Dr. Paul Atchley and Mary Ann Morris Thompson. It is quiet informative but I have found some discrepinces in the Isaac Atchley and Daniel R.Atchley information. Family History is sure frustrating and yet fun also. Glad to hear again.

I have a Mary Husted in my family who was born about 1866-67 around Toledo Ohio. Her mother was Demice Patrick Husted, born in Ireland. The Mary Husted in my family ended up in Oklahoma and married a man named Lawson. Some of her family still lives around Enid, OK. To my knowledge they never came to CA, so it must be the wrong Mary Husted.

Claire Fluharty cfluharty@mednet.ucla.edu

Windy,
I visited the cemetery in western Clark County, Ohio
which is very old and it seems that any trace of
Solomon Husted and any family are gone, even
though they are listed in records as buried there.
Most headstones are weathered ond/or broken
but some are partially readable including families
Layton, and Hawk which were mentioned by you
and Paul in this query, I believe an Arthur Layton
and a John Hawk. I was passing thru this area and
next time a camera goes with me to get actual names.
I e-mailed you a listing of this cemetery.
Gene
me
with me

This is a very old cemetery, most stones are broken and scattered. After several visits, I was cleaning other pieces and re-cleaned one of about three stones still standing. This stone was Ruth, daughter of Solomon Husted and Anna. I cleaned a stone next to it, broken in two pieces and it was Anna. There is a stone between them of the same style with only the upper part available so far. Going back tomorrow and hope to have more info and I will have pictures.
Gene

I have some suggestions.

Before you do any work check to see if the information is not already in World Connect or listed on a Husted web site. The book is fairly recent.

1) Scan and OCR the index first if there is one.
2) OCR the rest of the book instead of just making pictures.
3) Ask for help 'cleaning up' the raw OCRed text on this board.
4) Divide the work up into lines that will require about the same amount of work. Send each volunteer the text and the image so they can proof the text. Have each volunteer enter the text into a genealogy program using cut & paste when it is reasonable. They need to list the book as the source. The volunteers can send you back a GED file.
5) Combine the pieces and send the volunteers the full GED.

You can also post the finished GED on World Connect. Posting the images may not be legal.
What an informitive posting!

I found that account most interesting. I have no direct relation to the Husteds and check this board out just to 'window shop' . The Mesnards were in the greater Stamford area starting 1770. They were Anglican in 1770 but I suspect they converted to Methodist very early. They must have joined some splinter congregation of the one that met in the Horse Neck Chapel on Puts Hill. I say this because the oldest son married Mary Knapp dau of Timothy son of Israel who donated the land for the chapel. There is no record of that marriage or for most of the other Mesnard children. The only church record of a Mesnard marriage of that generation was from a church far from Greenwich. The record stated both husband and wife were from Greenwich. I suspect the marriage was performed by a circut rider who was later hired by a church and he added his book to the church records. For this reason I am always interested to learn anything I can about circut riders of this area.

Do you know when the Methodists were allowed to use the church in New Canaan? My ancesters from the next generation were married in that church. That was always a curiousity for me since I am sure they were Methodists by then.

How big was Thomas Seymour Husted Sr. 's shoe business? An Andrew Crawford moved to New Canaan from Round Hill. He was a shoe maker and worked for a manifactoring business.

Looking for a more rescent Robert Husted

A Robert Husted placed a great database on Worldconnect. The last time it was updated was 2001. I tried contacting him but the email address was dead and I think I have tried this before a few years back. I am working on the descendents of David Banks and Mary Mesnard who married a bit before the R-War. His data is the best I have seen for this family. I do not believe there are church records for these Banks who lived on top of Roundhill in Greenwich as well as most of their neighbors. I suspect they were members of the Horseneck Chapel or some other tiny congregation that went belly up in the early 1800s. The Banks being very successful in the shoe business moved the graves of their ancestors from where ever into the Stanwich graveyard. I suspect that is where Robert got his information. He has one tiny bit of information that is key for linking a David Banks who has a bio in an old book to this family. His database is the only one on World Connect with that piece of info. Daniel Banks married Christina Brush. A will and the bio interconnect to a Daniel Banks settling the Brush estate.

Reading your article I would guess you might know what happened to that researcher. Thanks!
Soloman/Solomon Husted in Ohio

Hello, I am trying to further a lead on a Soloman/Solomon Husted who resided in Champaign County and Clark county, Ohio and then passed away in Hamilton County, Indiana. I believe he was married to a Anna Ferguson in 1824 in Clark county and possibly a May Harris in 1853 In Hamilton County unless he had a son named Solomon as well. His death date shows as 1855 in Hamilton County, Indiana. He also served in the Capt. Arthur Layton's Company in the War of 1812 with several other Husteds:
Issac- a private
John- a fifer
Moses- a private
Samuel- a private
Solomon- a private

I am trying to connect solomon or maybe a sibling as the father to a Mahlon/Mahon Husted born in 1831 or so. If anyone has any of these names in thier research I would be very thankful for some help. Been stuck a very long time.

Thanks

Robert Husted Passage to America on the ASSURANCE

Robert Husted Passage to America on the ASSURANCE

Robert Husted immigrated to America with the Rev. Joseph Hull Company and is listed as passenger number 104 on the ship’s list.[1][2] Their ship left Weymouth on 20 March 1635 and the ship’s list indicated that there were 106 passengers "Bound for New England".[2] After a voyage of about 46 days, the ship landed at Dorchester (Massachusetts Bay Colony) on 7 May 1635 and stayed there “a fortnight” before removing to Wessaguscus.[3] On July 8, 1635, the General Court of Massachusetts passed an order permitting Rev. Joseph Hull's company of twenty-one families to settle at Wessaguscus, which was then incorporated under the name of Weymouth on 2 September 1635.[4] Not only was Robert Husted part of the Hull Company, he also settled with the same group. Robert Husted and his family of eight were granted land at Mount Wollaston in 1640.[5]

Two other members of the Hull Company were Zachary and Agnes Bicknell of Weymouth, the immigrant ancestors of the American Bicknells.[6] They were passengers 41 and 42 respectively on the Hull Company’s ship’s list.[7] The ship they came over on was the “Assurance” from Gravesend, Kent, England.[8] These facts, including the name of the Hull Company’s vessel the “Assurance” are also asserted by the Chairman of the Weymouth Historical Commission, Theodore Clarke, on the official webpage of the town of Weymouth, MA.
